  1. Carp have been imported to u.k. for centuries so not sure what dna would proove. But im sure just about every big u.k. carp is a known fish so a foreigner would stand out like a reggae band at a kkk convention Made me laugh for a whole minute.
  2. Well done Dave. We both lost our virginity this week. Is that a T38 IR on the top or is it a lamp?
  3. Oh Ian! You're gonna make me say something I haven't said for a while. "If I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all". I bought an XR and it's already been dispatched. How much for the "Pro"? PM if you want. I know for that price they're going to be limited but will it find a shot rabbit?
  4. Five is good on a scrappy night. You can only use the tools you have. My Archer does a pretty good job. It's only limitation is the mag on the scope and the amount of IR you chuck at it but it's useless in the mist or dense foliage. I can't see me ever giving it up but I wouldn't chuck away a nice freebie thermal. I've just bought a cheap one for close up but it would be great if some of that military stuff was to ever get cheap enough.
  5. I was out with a mate on Sunday and I was struggling to find one. His thermal found it half way down the side of a ditch. His unit was nearly £2000s worth. Even so he wouldn't have found it if he hadn't been looking down on it. They are not the be all and end all but I hope that my little iphone one will save me hours over a year.
  6. Maybe there's a South East Boinger Bash in the offing?
  7. Not what I want to hear bry after I've just bought one. I'll let you know how I get on with it.
  8. Not had a lot of feedback on this topic. I can't be the only one who struggles to find bunnies in a rough field. Here's what I've found for those who are also looking.. The cheap Flir is fixed focus. The Seek range looks better and have some focus. The Compact Pro has the best sensor size/resolution at 320x240. Will give more detail but is the dearest of the Compacts I think I'm gonna get the XR which has a better refresh rate than the standard which means it's better at keeping up when you move it. It has a smaller sensor at 206x156 but it should be fine for looking for a bunny when you'
  9. What on top of the four Westies and the Staffie???? Mind you, the youngest Westie is very sharp. I bet she could find them. All I have to do is spray her black and stop her from barking .
  10. I'm spending too much time looking for shot rabbits under rhubarb leaves etc. What's the absolute cheapest thermal unit? I know some of the cheaper units won't even see through leaves etc. Have no interest in putting one on the rifle. Just spotting. Someone said the Seek xtended should be better than the Flir one. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Help me out guys. Just a couple of nights ago I had to give up after wasting half an hour looking in a rough field for a rabbit that was on it's back with legs in the air.
  11. Yes Dave. I'm in Gillingham. I do see them pretty much every time I go out.
  12. Hi Dave. Basically I'm an animal lover but I'm also a realist and I'm not a hypocrite. I eat meat and I'm prepared to go out and do the hunter gatherer thing. I enjoy working out what's to be done to put the quarry in the bag in surroundings that I can't afford. I justify killing rabbits because of the damage they do and I have five dogs to feed so they never go to waste. I know what f**ckers foxes can be and the damage they can do. A Fox in the young Pheasant pens would be disastrous. On the farm I appreciate the efforts the farmer puts in to get a rough shoot together and I'll help him wher
  13. Shot my 1st Fox last night. Didn't feel good at all. It came in from the right about 110yds out. I was standing in full view with my quad sticks and a huge T67 on top of my Anschutz 1417 shooting .22 Win subs. When it was directly in front of me he turned left and was going away. I gave a weak squeak with my lips (I'm not a good lip squeaker) and he turned and looked but carried on going away. I put more effort in with a sustained squeak and he turned and came toward me at a lope rather than a run or a walk. I was amazed because he looked like he was in full daylight and was looking straight
  14. First off, In my defence I can't multi task to save my life. I'd had some trouble with the bunnies spooking at my T67 IR. I deduced that, as I'm only shooting .22LR and usually only to about 75yds, maybe I'll go back to the T20 to see if there was a difference. The other reason to try it was the fact that I'd drilled and tapped my T20 to fit properly on top of my Archer NV. When I went to the T67 I had to take off the T20 and mount the T67 on the scope. This meant that I couldn't use the Archer as a spotter because the IR wasn't attached. Anyway, there I was a couple of nights ago taking
  15. There are lots of reasons why you need permissions ferret. I know it's a bit of an exaggeration but you wouldn't like it if I turned up in your garden and started shooting would you? It might take some research but you could find yourself with thousands of acres to shoot on with permission. Do it right and ask mate.
  16. You gonna tell us how Archie? Drive around? .22, HMR?
  17. This is a .22 RWS (FX) Scimitar with an AGS 4x32@35yds scope It needs a little fixing because I stupidly lent it to someone who tried to fix a slight rattle that it turns out is normal. I think all the parts are there except one of the ball bearings in the stock tube. Comes with the scope, an 8 shot magazine, fill probe and a neat hard case. Here's some pics of what it used to look like and what it looks like now. This will be is a cracking little rifle with a small amount of work. I believe FX do an overhaul kit for around £30. Schematics are I think the same as the Cyclone and the Storm.
  18. Exactly that! About a week back I shot 22 on a perm I can't get wheels on. At the end of the session I had to walk back with two bags of rabbits on each end of my quad sticks plus rifle plus game bag. Even paunched 22 bunnies weigh a ton and it took a couple of days for my back to get over it. Next time I think I'll strap the big tool box on my fishing trolley. (I'm 68 by the way)
  19. I took ten last night and one had early signs.
  20. My garden used to be totally devoid of songbirds until I started taking care of the problem. Cack cack cack had me reaching for one of the airguns on my way to the garden. Songbirds are back and for the first time blue tits have used the box I put up years ago. Haven't heard the cack cack for a long time now but was severely pissed off about a month ago when I saw one of em flying away. No noise, like a silent ninja. They are one clever b*****d bird.
  21. Define better? I have a .17 hornet amongst other calibres and i got it to replace a hmr. It is cheap to load for if you do load, flat shooting, quiet and just a good all round vermin calibre. Fox capable to 200yds, rabbits, crows etc to 300yds. Cheapest c/fire to run if you don't load, i can currently buy factory ammo for £16.95 for a box of 25, although i load for everything i have barring rimfire. Is that a "everyone" normal price? I'm about to put in for a .17 Hornet and thinking bout reloading for economy. Peeps on here have said about 40p to reload. I know reloading is not all about
  22. Ha Ha! Thanks mate. The seat is only temporary. Will have to make one with a backrest cos thinking about weld something on the four corners to take hide poles to drape camo nets on. Don't want a bad back whilst waiting for them pigeons
  23. I drive a front wheel drive Renault Trafic so my forays around my farm perm are gonna get severely restricted as the wet weather comes in. With that in mind I bought a small cheap quad that needed a bit of sorting and that's been done. It's only a small 125cc but I don't need it to do wheelies. Fashioned a towbar to take one of those kiddies trailers to take the humungous amounts of bunnies I'm gonna get. Fashioned a rifle rest with a tube on the quad that gives me swivel and up and down. Took a while to get all the heights and angles etc right but now the annie sits on it as snug
  24. Thanks for making the effort Tremo. Appreciate it.
  25. Whatever you go for have a thought for how it will fit on your gun. I use a T67 on top of a 50mm Sidewinder. That's nearly 7 inches from the top of the barrel. It just about fits in the gun slip. Think also of the light clearance. You don't want it so far back that it lights up the front of the scope/barrel. Mine is infra red so possibly don't have to worry about the lighting up bit although I'm not so sure. It used to look like a block of flats but I've recently acquired a night rangefinder courteously provided of Shane at CRS, Without drilling holes in my Annie the only place to put the pic
