  1. Yes One. Farmer is happy, I'm happy, dogs are happy, everybody wins. Already met them U. Could've shot two more last night with the right rifle. Too far away to hear my weak arsed squeak. Am about to put in for a 223. Then a decent caller ha ha. Did find a bankful of seriously big rats behind some feeders so will definitely be back for them. Just thinking which rifle to take, the HW100 12lbs or the Mk2 Rapid 30lbs? Think it will have to be the Rapid. Will be able to get further back for a better arc of fire. Ooh I haven't had a sit down rat shoot for a long time.
  2. As David said, budget comes into it as does what you're trying to spot. I'm testing a digital at the moment that has all the bells and whistles, colour, recording and stills etc but the field of view is pitiful and the rate of focus (amount of turns) is too slow. This would be perfect for ambushing a known distance warren or a rat run but not for mooching about with. I love my Gen3 Archer to bits. They're very expensive but sooo good. I use quad sticks so it's no problem for me to scan 360 with the unit on the rifle but the Archer was designed to take off to spot with and replace for t
  3. Went to a part of the farm that's been out of bounds until the rough shoot was over. This farm must have been at the front of the queue when they handed out the mud allowance and it's all up and down. More than once my clockwork ran out and at the end of the night I was totally fukcered. However; I had ten bunnies and a fox. Was pleased with my little Seek thermal when I was totally disorientated on the first bunny and was looking in the wrong place. The Seek found it from about forty yards away in a stubble field. I'm really dumbfounded with this fox thing. They are supposed to be r
  4. No, I don't know what part of the perm it came from but one end of it backs onto houses where they maybe feed the wildlife. I've shot hundreds of bunnies on this perm and this is the only one with yellow fat.
  5. Not that I've tried hard but haven't found a bunny recipe that I like yet so all my bunnies go to the four westies and the staff. That's a double handed cleaver in the pic. Six goes with that and straight in the mincer bones an all. Then boiled in water with gravy granules ha ha. The dogs think I'm Jamie Oliver.
  6. How unusual is this? Was the only yellow one out of nine from the same place.

    Head Teacher

Rabbits an cats look real similar when skinned( so iv heard haha), so could be true Apparently cats kidneys are side by side, not staggered like a rabbits.
  8. Me too please you have a PM. Thank you for your kind offer.
  9. Thanks Dave. Yes mate. Don't scrimp on the stuff that matters. Anschutz 1417 with two grands worth of Archer and scope on the top. Love it. Only advice I would give - as has already been said, the smaller quads aren't as stable as the bigger wider ones but they're ok as long as you keep the speed down. Another edit; For anyone interested the trailer is an adapted twin kiddie one which folds flat with quick release wheels and the box is one of those huge tool box jobbies cos of the humongous amounts of bunnies i get every time I go out.
  10. Just needed something to save the old legs. It's just a small 125cc which is fine for puttering around on a flat farm and it's light enough to pull out should it get stuck. The seat is still under research and development lol.
  11. It's all very well talking about the best or what we would like but some of us have hundreds to play with, not thousands. In my case, once the wet weather set in it was a case of a cheap chinese or shanks pony and I can easily push it up two ramps into the back of my Renault Trafic van.
  12. Would love to see this series again with Jack Hargreaves. Got all excited today when I found it on Kodi. (TV box) Unfortunately there was no-one streaming it at the time. Will try again later. Does anyone know where this can be watched?
  13. Don't formalise your shooting any more than you have to. I have permissions I go to regularly and some I don't go to for weeks/months at a time. You can't do anything shootingwise without some land so that's your first priority. It's nowhere near as hard to get as most people think. Just use your head and your eyes. If you see lots of bunnies, make a point of finding out who owns that land and knock on the door. Don't do the farm/golf course route. Waste of time. That sort of thing will come eventually but not when you're chasing it. The type of permission you get will, to a degree dictate wha
  14. I have one jjm, gulp! Can't believe I actually said that. I'm a bit of a hoarder. I bought it from my cousin who put a tin and a half through from new. I used it for about a year til I bought my HW100. That was about three years ago. That didn't get used after I bought the FAC Mk2 Rapid. Now I've had the rimmie for a while and none of em see the light of day until I see a maggie in the garden. Now I need to fund a .17hmr and a .223 so I've been beating myself up about which to sell and which to keep. They are all brilliant and I keep putting off the decision. Then I saw this post and I
  15. I honestly don't know ant. Not something I've ever done. At best it's only going to give you a blob of heat. In open ground my Archer can see eyeshine for hundreds of yds given enough IR. For that kind of money you can buy/build a spotter/add on that will do the job much better. Long range thermals are brilliant of course but cost mucho dinero. Have a look at the night vision forum or youtube for some inspiration.
  16. Not familiar with it but I believe it's digital. Not sure how digital works. Gen 3 NV like the Starlight Archer uses an intensifier tube that enhances whatever light is there. Sometimes no need for extra IR
  17. Was that with tubed or digital Dan? Only ever used tubed.
  18. Not helping much Dan but I've always used a 3-12 Sidewinder on my 1417 rimmie with the Archer. It's always been good but as I had nothing to compare it with I've been looking for a "better" scope with a bit more reach. I recently bought a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16. It will do as a day scope but pants with the Archer. After two outings the Sidewinder is back where she belongs. doing the business in all weathers. Check out this pic from last night. Note the inner tube that means I'm never going to lose another mag after I modified the release.
  19. Update! I'm happy to report limited success with my basic compact. I've used it around five times now and it's found four rabbits and that's not including last night when it found the rabbit just before my torch did but it still found it. I'd been looking in the wrong place. Mr P: When shooting fifty plus yds in the dark it's very handy if you can spot a landmark to guide you but quite a lot of thetime there is none, all the trees look the same and it's not a clear picture looking through N/V. I have an advantage because I use my quad sticks with the extra leg and so my rifle is pointi
  20. I have a S&B 8x56 and trying to decide wether to keep it to go on a future day rifle or sell it. Doesn't work with my Archer gen 3.
  21. Thanks guys. I'm normally shooting at below 80yds and just need the thermal to find the bunny once i'm in the general area. I reckon it's gonna save shedloads of time.
  22. UPDATE. The Seek XR arrived today and had a little play. Found a warm flannel easily at 14yds. Even when almost cold so I'm hopeful that it'll do the job. Let you know what happens in the field.
