Thanks foxtrotoscar. I'm just pleased someone read it. Thought I was gonna have to go elsewhere when I need an ego boost. I think us lot like to hear how the day or night went in more detail. It sort of takes us there. Yes my buddy Shane is a good one. He has a wife and kids and so isn't as free as I am but we work around these things and usually get out at least once a week. I'm thinking what's left of the pumpkins will give us perhaps another two weeks at the crows so I've been working on a crow decoy. I'll post a pic later.

Reposting this as it appears no-one knew it was tagged on the end of the last post. Either that or my posts are just shite. My buddy and I went back to the pumpkin field last night. We haven't got around to sorting a speaker for our fox caller so it's fairly weak but the lowly tenterfield came good again. To be honest the first one took us by surprise. Should've had him but I had a feeling there was nothing left in the mag. Turned out to be the case so just as well plus I had alerted my pal and didn't know if he was lined up on him. Of course all this took but seconds and charlie was of

Hi guys. Just looking for an easy way to preserve a rabbit skin. Nothing fancy, just want to make a couple of decoys and a couple of stuffed ones to see if I can train my little Westie to find em. Thanks.

Great job Ollie. I need a loooot more practice.

Good write up once again U. I must confess that after watching a family of Stoats for quite a while I can't bring myself to shoot them. They were truly mesmerising.

Last week my buddy and I had some fun with the shotties to no avail (both learners), then we went on to the rabbits when it got dark. He was trying out his new thermal (ATN Mars) which proved to be very effective. Both using 17 Hornets. He wanted to try calling a fox. His manual caller sounded good but was weak. He laughed when I dug in the bottom of the bag for a tenterfield but it brought in two foxes. One we didn't have a shot at but the second circled us trying to catch our scent. He presented a clear shot at around 80yds and my buddy said "Do you want to take him?". I told him to take him

Well done belly. A few more trips like that and he won't want to know about video games.

What a great hunting companion. I have a young Westie just like that. She was always climbing over the fence to next doors garden so I built a 2ft trellis. She still managed to get past it. I had to watch to find out how she was doing it. She launched herself up the 4ft bit and then hanging on with her claws she managed to get through one of the diamonds in the trellis. She always comes back when called and after getting a smacked arse she goes away wagging her tail saying "didn't hurt"

I'ved acquired a few cases now. Mostly Hornady and PPU with a few Wins and a few CBE? Hornady defo the worst with primers taking little effort to seat sometimes. The only other pressure signs are slightly flattened primers but not often. I've even given up on marking once fired, twice fired etc although I do examine every fired case. Some I formed from 22 Hornet using a small length of the same studding that dies are made from. I drilled the appropriate hole and chamfered the entrance and it worked a treat, going from 22 hornet - tween die - to full length 17 Hornet resizer. Not had one sp

This is a big field with many rabbits on it. All were healthy and a normal mix of young and old, big and small. "Symptoms of VHD include fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, spasms, and sudden death, although some rabbits may die without showing any symptoms. Up to 90% of affected rabbits may die from the disease which progresses rapidly (death occurs approximately 1-3 days after infection)."

Had a good night on one of the pumpkin fields last night. Haven't shot this field for a while and got the distinct impression that the bunnies might have been a bit under the influence. Using 17 Hornets that aren't exactly quiet, they weren't running off when their near neighbours were getting bumped off. On a couple of occasions we walked past rabbits that were a couple of yards away. I should add that there's no sign of Myxy on this farm at the moment. I can't see that giving em a couple of months off would have this effect. The pumpkins have long since been harvested and of those that a

I forgot to say re; those Henry Krank bullets. They are labelling them as soft point but they are 17 grain boat tailed Vmax.

I found the forming quite easy. I bought a three foot length of the same studding the dies are made of. After cutting a lump off I drilled one hole, then made the entrance conical and polished it. I was quite amazed when after just one pass I was able to trim to length and go straight to the full length sizing die. I found I could load the result just the same as a normal case for fireforming and hunt with it.

If still interested in a 17hornet airborne there was one on airgun bbs.

Not tried Nosler yet. Testing 17/20/25gr Vmax and some 30gr Berger HP but for economy I'm concentrating on the 17gr; http://www.henrykrank.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=164_165_1120 For the distances I'm shooting, especially at night, I don't think the wind factor is as bad as some make out. The 17gr from HK is boat tailed which makes it a bit easier to load. Not sure where they come from. Some say ex HMR some say ex Mach2. I don't care as long as I can find accuracy and consistency I at least will be a happy bunny. A 9 ounce bottle of Trail Boss IIRC amounts to around 4600

Bringing this from another thread Where Tremo said; "I use 25 grain pills these days and shoot anything from rabbits to foxes with it. Obviously, correct shot placement is critical, especially with rabbits! . Don't expect to see much left unless you do head shots. I haven't tried the lighter TB loads, but I will when I get time. At the moment I'm using 12.0 grains of Lovex D063 with the 25 grainers. I'm getting a MV of around 3400fps." My "normal" 17 hornet load is 9gr Lilgun behind a 17grain Vmax for around 3623fps. My buddy has some D063 coming which I believe is taking over fro

Now that we're going OT Tremo I'm gonna take this to reloading.

I only head shoot rabbits at night so about 150yds is about it for me. Don't need more than that, I agree about the reloading. With care and fireforming the price per round comes down to under hmr and yet the caliber is so much more versatile. I go out with 17gr and 20gr Vmax loaded for fox and distance but I'm half way to finding a load that's somewhere near 2.3 gr Trail Boss behind a 20gr Vmax or 2.6gr TB behind a 17gr Vmax for bunnies out to maybe 140yds but much quieter than hmr and reloadable. Won't pretend that reloading is a breeze. Nothing hard about it, just fiddly. With so few kerne

For what it's worth. I've got one and love it. My shooting buddy also wants one and can't find one. He eventually went with Livens who threw in a spare mag I believe but blew smoke up his ar*e re the delivery date. My pal was expecting it bout a week ago but got a phone call to say it's been delayed til mid October. I had a good conversation with Edgar Bros (the importers) the other day and they don't know when but hope before mid October. He did say the caliber is going strong and they have a lot coming including 69 t/holes alone.

Good stuff stoggy. bunnies look nice and clean and a great pic of the dogs.

Sorry for the bad link guys. I've tried to delete or change it and it won't let me. Hopefully Ill get it right this time. OK, I've read people can't find a good one or they're too expensive so I'm gonna help you guys out with the perfect 17 Hornet funnel for £1.99 GB You just need to shave the end of the spout just a tiny bit to fit inside the length of the neck. It fit's as snug as a bug, it won't wobble, it's metallic so powder doesn't hardly stick, just a tap with the cup if it does. I love it to bits. I suppose I should say that I have no connection with this company but I love this so

Well done hily. Looks like you had a good day with the dogs. With four Westies and a Staff I get all jealous reading about working dogs. Still pondering on teaching my youngest one to fins bunnies. I reckon she could do it cos she's as sharp as a tack. Good to see the quads worked for you. I went out last night and forgot mine. Had to borrow my buddys trigger sticks and was reminded once more how totally useless I am with em.
