  1. Here's the situation in Syria...a middle eastern country that we normally think of as desert land... http://news.uk.msn.com/blog/trending-blogpost.aspx?post=97162c9c-a46a-4b9b-bccf-e3fda9f206af
  2. Modern technology is great......everyone in the developed world now has a handy, mobile device capable of capturing video and stills of all sorts of phenomena that previously would have gone unrecorded, and then broadcasting around the world on the web.

is that a mastiff cross?? Rottie, Wxm. ahhh right sorry mate, is he kc or none ped He's K.C. Wxm but not show quality. My neighbour has 5 kids under 10 and they can all walk into our house and get a friendly slobber. Any adult male who hesitates at my gate or steps foot in my driveway however, is met with a bear like roar. That does for me, as It's I who am responsible for the safety of all indoors and not the dog. If I wanted an attack dog I'd have a working Mal but old Sabre is so much easier to live with and such a pleasure to have around.
  4. I didn't take any of them folks. The Foxy one was published in countrymaids weekly and I had it blown up and framed for my wall. The other framed one was taken by a lady pro photographer who's name eludes me but who allowed me to use it in my article in E.D.R.D. and the three generation one Alan gave me.
  5. Yes paulf, I did the write up on that one.....can someone get killingcrew a tissue please.....I put this up years ago too and it has been copied ad infinitum but here you go....straight off my wall...
  6. I think it was 25" to the shoulder Alan told me but in any case, Dancer, her dam Jodie (black and white) and her daughter Blondie were all the same size.
  7. I still have this one from the same event on my dining room wall along with Foxy
  8. Here she is in a picture taken by my pal Optimus while we watched the doubled up championship the previous week.....I've posted about this years ago but for the benefit of newer members, Dancer struck at this hare just after the picture was taken and took a tumble, ass over tit, allowing the hare to gain a load of ground but she got herself up and reeled it in to pick up on the other side of the next dyke.....lovely bitch to watch.
  9. No.....it was Dancer.....a week after winning the doubled up at Rippingale

We've had both and they're great dogs but the Rotties do it for me. Greedy, easily trained and great with pups.
  12. Looking good....when they drink by themselves it's a good sign. Any I've lost have given up and showed no interest in water. Fingers crossed for you pal

Sabre about 3 years ago with his babies.......
  14. Yes, for those of us who have hunted U.K. stuff it looks odd but we are just a small part of the world with perhaps an inflated impression of our worth. Give a fair appraisal is all I say.
  15. That may or may not be the case Bird...but I think we need to learn the facts before making a judgement....they ain't foxes!

Our Sabre will let pups share his bones but just try coming over the wall....
  17. We can all formulate theories while sat on our arses....Plummer made a career out of it. I'd like to have first hand experience of that type of wolf, jackal or whatever it is before making any pronouncements...
  18. The doubled up greyhound type coursing fed off the betting industry of course. So that activity depended upon revenue from gamblers rather than hunters. Proper single handed hare running, on the other hand, was an attempt to evaluate a dog verses a hare......the fact that some of the participants also ran dogs in private matches on the side is neither here nor there.
  19. Because greyhounds are racing dogs and can therefore add speed to a lurcher strain......unfortunately brittle feet and poor stamina often come with the speed, which is why most breeders of hunting sighthounds prefer to use a lurcher with a proven record....I think!
  20. Check out Gareth Pearson Big E, he comes over here regularly, and can moonwalk across the stage while picking out every note on accustic guitar of Jacksons "Billy Jean". Alas there's not a lot of saluki in his breeding
  21. And that statement pretty much answers the origional question hounddog3
  22. I think I've said this some where else, but why would a breed of dog survive several thousands of years running over stoney, rocky and sandy ground if it didn't have the very best of feet? And why would any breed that has been bred for a hundred years according to some K.C. standard, judged by people with no practical experience of coursing. be expected to have better feet? Saluki....Tazi....Sloughi, or whatever you want to call them...for me!
  23. Speak for yourself.....I ran doubled up 35 - 40 years ago but how can a person assess the quality of a dog when another animal is helping out?
