  1. TK remember the party we were at in Tony H's old house before he moved ten or twelve years ago? Well it seems someone had a camcorder on the go as this clip has just turned up........
  2. Wolves...(dogs) hunt naturally by running down the prey over distance. B's.O.P. Hunt more opportunistically with sudden surprise strikes. An eagle also has a lot of inertia to overcome once it's been grounded, especially if the wind is wrong. One isn't better than the other, just different imho.
  3. Here's a poor pic I took of Don in the nineties at one of the doubled up competitions. Lovely bitch in great order as always......R.I.P. Don
  4. There's loads of starlings about too but not many people feel inspired to hunt them, even though sparrow hawks are also fairly cheap to buy. Which is just as well considering how unsuitable such a small hawk is for a beginner.
  5. It's true that Harris hawks are cheaper and more readily available today than most other bop's but it's also true that they're more versatile and more easily trained ( both the right way and the wrong way) than other hawks that suit hunting in the U.K. So one reason for their popularity may just be that they are the most suitable for our conditions and prey base. Just as saluki bred lurchers are way ahead of other types for running hares on big land.....whippety types for ferreting etc., popularity sometimes indicates suitability.
  6. Always a pleasure to read your informed, intelligent posts Gnasher,,,,,,one of the two or three names I seek out to read on here!
  7. Chet was such a fan of Merle Travis, the head of Capital records at the time, that he named his daughter after him.....Merle!
  8. http://youtu.be/n-c66SJPuUI For those who think the guitar was invented by Rock and Rollers......Chet Atkins playing in the year I was born....!
  9. Sadly Chet passed away about 2001 but not before passing the crown on.......
  10. Surprised that in a guitar thread nobody has mentioned "Mr Guitar", reputedly the most recorded instrumentalist musician in the world, having worked as a session musician for Hank Williams and Elvis Presley in the early years and produced acts like the Everely Brothers, Emmylou Harris etc. when he was head of RCA records...........the man who invented the Nashville sound, ladies and gentlemen.....Mr Chester "Chet" Burton Atkins...... http://youtu.be/YegKYn5yeKM
  11. Pure class.......Gary Moore, Van Morrison, George Best, Danny Blanchflower and old BOLIO1.......all East Belfastards, but only the first four had talent
  12. Can't help myself guys....here's Tommy's tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan.....after a virtuoso rendition of guitar boogie
  13. What the hell......I'd be proud as punch If I was Welsh......Gareth can hold his own with anyone........
  14. I'm surprised none of our Welsh membership have noted Gareth Pearson. A great young Welsh musician in his early 20's who has already performed at the Chet Atkins appreciation society gigs in Nashville, (as well as Belfast.....come back soon Gareth). Check out his fingerstyle interpretations of Michael Jackson songs on youtube. He blew the crowd away with his intricate rendition of Billy Jean while moonwalking across the stage on his last visit to Belfast's Waterfront Hall as Tommy's warm up act last year. The £20 ticket price was worth it for Gareth's performance alone!
  15. His own compositions are quite unique also.......here's one called Initiation that is Tommy's interpretation of an aboriginal coming of age ceremony in the outback of his native Australia.... http://youtu.be/x346VoDX3pA Isn't it amazing, the sounds you can get from a plywood box and six strings........with a musical genius at the other end?
  16. For the Hendrix fans..........Tommy plays it on an accustic so no fancy electronics.....just guitar genius!
  17. Tommy and his brother Phil! were there ever two brothers who could play like them? They performed at the closing ceremony of the Sydney olympics in 2000 by the way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M94V5DDQwrg&feature=share&list=PLB4559DD6E385D6CB
  18. Did you not see all the superstars who claimed he had influenced their playing, when they were interviewed after he died ? Cheers. Some one finally mentioned Django Rheinhardt, no Les Paul, though, and no Rosenberg, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe2jVU4WixY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoIJ4W7kXiQ My own favourite, Tommy Emmanuel, was the only performer to get a standing ovation at Les Pauls 90'th birthday bash at Carnegie hall.
  19. Thanks for the link Paid So it appears that these are not "rules" for Bedfordshire police specifically but a rewording of "guidlines" issued by the National Association of Chief Police Officers to all police forces, and while there is a cursory mention toward the end regarding respectful treatment of all other faiths and beliefs, muslim customs and practices are the only ones specifically addressed in the main body of the advisory text. It's often easier to dismiss something out of hand........ or to swallow it hook line and sinker........ but a little digging, thanks to Paids link, revea
  20. I hear what you're saying Born Hunter.......but I didn't say I believe it to be true, just that it arrived in my inbox. If it IS true it's a disgrace because it means there is special treatment reserved for one section of society and if it ISN'T true it's still a disgrace because someone is trying to cause resentment toward that section of society. Since the particular force has been named it should be possible to either verify or refute the claim???
  21. GOD HELP US...... US THE LAST ONE TO LEAVE, TURN OUT THE LIGHTS THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE &NOT A JOKE - THIS IS ACTUALLY CURRENT PROCEDURE! Subject: Police Instructions - Bedfordshire Police THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE!! THESE ARE INSTRUCTIONS HANDED OUT TO ALL OFFICERS AT C.I.D COURSES AND ANTI-TERRORIST COURSES IN THE BEDFORDSHIRE FORCE/SERVICE UK’s Bedfordshire Police’s rules regarding terrorists and dangerous cri
  22. It's gratifying to see John getting a bit of credit at last for the dog and his performances. His stud fee no longer seems exceptional and I knew Noonie and others who used him and bid for him weren't daft! Enjoy the moment John, you've earned it.
  23. Lovely bitch. Any whippet in there? She looks similar to mine. No whippet Gareth, her sire was a dog I had off Alan Sankey called Max ( Tommy Murrays Smokey x Dancer)
  24. And here is her daughter, Patch, aged exactly 7 months. Willow was bred out of a pure saluki bitch and a saluki lurcher sire. Patch is her daughter by a Khan Jihad pure saluki dog. Never had a problem with recall with either of them.
