  1. British Patents and trademarks are both registered by the Patents Office here in UK Steve, and can be renewed by the owner at any time; they typically last for 16 years before renewal, elapsed patents are public domain, hence the many copies of the 'Duffus' type traps on the market. OTC
  2. Not quite - about 60 years later perhaps ... John Duffus made and patented the original ones in early 1922, those are stamped J DUFFUS on one side and PATENT on the other side. The patent was later sold to D. Jolly in 1958 and the traps continued to have the Duffus name stamped but not the word patent. But saying that there was an even earlier patented design that was almost exactly the same from 1880 too by Notcut. OTC
  3. Are you sure Rolfe? Maybe this one fancied a change of materials for his drey?? Difficult to judge height and proportion from the pic - moorhens will nest up in lower trees but not really tall ones ... OTC
  4. I cannot be certain if Springer do make the mole traps, but they have the engineering capability to make their vermin and rabbit traps on site so I can only assume that they also make the mole traps there. Shame Fenn do not make their flat double catch mole traps any more - I could do with one for my collection if anyone has one knocking around?? OTC
  5. ABCP - AB Country Products (those who make the Springer traps) Try Arthur Carter Fieldsports - they had them in stock last time I saw them OTC
  6. The use of gin traps and other foothold traps has been illegal in England and Wales since 31 July 1958 OTC
  7. I don't think that information is quite correct... Absolute rubbish - you can have as many traps in your possession as you want and it is perfectly legal - using them is a different matter though! OTC And YOU should definitely know... I think I should do ChalkWarren ... LOL!! OTC
  8. I don't think that information is quite correct... Absolute rubbish - you can have as many traps in your possession as you want and it is perfectly legal - using them is a different matter though! OTC
  9. Mine did it regularly - but some paying guns don't like to see them in the beating line even if they are far better behaved than the pedigree gundogs OTC
  10. Right place right time - and camera ready Weasels are like quicksilver - all I manage to get pics of is a tiny head poking out from a mouse hole or something Great shot OTC
  11. It is not the animals that are dumb - it is morons who post things like that Perhaps he would like to pay your inner city schools a visit to clean up the fox mess from the playground? Or explain to little Johnny why his pet rabbits were killed in their garden hutch during the night? Or help to clean up the torn bin bags littering the streets ... the list goes on. The fox is as much a menace in town as it is in the countryside OTC
  12. Fellas - has anyone got any old Fenn mole traps of the choker type in the back of their shed or trap bucket they could let me have? Looking for the small single mole type and the Duffus type If anyone has anything then please PM me OTC
  13. I saw a half grown cub in Kew Gardens last year wandering around in the daylight which was virtually hairless apart from its head - by far the worst I have ever seen. No pics though OTC
  14. I think they would be ideally suited to use at a Blind School or suchlike - what a monstrosity!! OTC

  16. I once went out lamping (a few years ago now!) with a chap my old man knew, apparently he was in a rock band or something. I had never heard of him but he seemed quite a nice chap. It was a few years down the line that I recognised Robert Plant from a poster ... My main claim to fame is playing backjack in a casino in Paradise Island, Nassau with Sean Connery. Legend! OTC
  17. I think a blind man could snare on those runs Mr Tea Pot, they will be a joy to do won't they? Certainly beats straining your eyes on the 12mm turf on a golf course doesn't it? OTC
  18. I honestly cannot understand how some so-called countrymen are still getting this wrong ... The male sparrowhawk is slate grey with a reddish barred chest - the female sparrowhawk is dark brown with dark barred chest. The bird under discussion is quite plainly dark brown and so therefore cannot possibly be a male sparrowhawk, irrespective of perceived size according to this, that and the other. OTC
  19. Crikey Kay - those pics of the waxwing are exceptional OTC
  20. I like the first swan Kay - a good choice of colour editing on that one OTC
  21. That road across Ranoch Moor and on up to Fort William has to be my favourite drive in the UK - breathtaking scenery OTC
  22. Buzzards and crows will strip out any carcase when it is cold or the snow is lying, including dead foxes OTC
  23. Cut up old sacking into 10 inch strps about 3 inches wide and then rough up the edges with a wire brush and sew that in too - it is great for breaking up edges of shape and blending in I have my old suit I made years ago somewhere - I will see if I can find it and get some pics OTC
