  1. Not that long ago, but definitely a different way of life
  2. Agreed, over here i have eaten both pike and perch and to be fair they are both pretty decent when taken from a deep, clear lake.
  3. As nicepix says it's called a flasher and is just a fishfinder / sonar . Bit tough to explain them but instead of displaying the water column as a scrolling chart, it show as a circle or clock face with the depths shown round the edge. When a fish comes under you it shows as a line in the circle at the depth it's at. Bit tough to explain them but lots of info on youtube under ice fishing flashers. Here is a picture of my fishfinder set up in flasher ice mode / screen, might make it a bit clearer, but the depth shows 0ft and 3.7 degrees as it was in my garage lol. And agree Sasha looks alright
  4. As mentioned they are very defensive in the spring when they have kits, and will come out of the water to engage dogs. My mate used to pull down the dams on his land with a couple of quads with winches, and a big grapple hook. Unless you put a f****n big hole in the dam, they can usually patch them in a night or 2, it's crazy how they can sort it with just sticks and mud. He started using tannerite, way easier and more fun.... they are pretty amazing, tough, animals, but a f****n nightmare with the damage they can do, and with no natural predators in the uk they are nuts to reintroduce them.
  5. I ordered a sheet of net off Brian Brinded about 15yrs ago, took about 8 weeks to arrive and I only got it after threatening to drive up to pick it up in person......
  6. Yep I did down south, not to much underground/ unorganized stuff but travelled around for a couple of years for some of the bigger clubs and events, few in milton Keynes, Reading, Manchester, Wigan pier, helter skelter, dreamscape, etc favourite weekly club though was kinetic in stoke, think I started around 93 to probably 97 or 98....
  7. At least a few double figure lake trout A whitefish (any size will do the feckin things seem to be my nemesis....) Beat my sturgeon pb (8'4") At least 1 trip out to Vancouver island after salmon.
  8. The shetlands had the sloped down gunnels but dont remember ever seeing one with a cuddly like that Arry, but i may well be wrong! Either way I would say it is a fairly old boat (probably 30-40yr old), and If it was mine i would be checking the floor and transom for soft spots and rot before I hung an outboard off it, not worrying about the make and model. If you are needing to know make and model for insurance tell them the plate is missing and offer to send them photos but be prepared to shop around for a reasonable quote. I have fished off a few boats with similar hulls over the years, a
  9. Very true, I always try and convince myself that having them PTS is the last kind thing you can do for them. Sorry for your loss Charts.
  10. Have had the pup out on a couple more hunts, I honestly cant believe how quickly he is picking things up. On his second trip we clipped a pair of gadwall that dropped close together and were both still kicking and flopping about which confused him for a minute, apart from that he has been stella . Last trip my son dropped 3 teal in two shots when we pulled up the truck to the side of a pond. Dog was still in his cage and hadn't seen them drop, and we could only see one but sent him out and he retrieved the first then found and retrieved the other two from the far side of the pond in some reeds
  11. You could quite easily get a top bred pup imported from the states to the UK, and still be way ahead on price. Most of the bigger breeders regularly ship / fly pups all across the USA, as well as abroard, and are set up for it. You can get a very well bred lab pup for around $1500 US (or less). When I emigrated to Canada from uk it cost me less than 500 quid to ship the dog with us, including vets and inoculations etc. so would imagine it would be similar going the other way. Just something to think about.
  12. His first (and second retrieve), it wasnt really planned as was just taking him out and getting him used to the decoys and a bit more breaking to gunfire, but a teal and spoony came in so let my son take them and he retrieved them perfect.
  13. My 6 mnth old lab Oscar, first gundog I've owned but training seems to be coming along nicely
  14. My 350 will pull a trailer off road no problem, (just not that fast) I would imagine a 250 would be fine for moles
  15. I've got a 2006 350 honda (and a new 420), the 350 has been an awesome little quad, only ever needed oil changes. I have had it nearly 5 years I think, my 2 teenage sons use it mostly and they dont go easy on it, what do you want to know?
  16. I would also add that 40 mesh deep (even at only 3 1/2" full mesh) would be a nightmare to handle, you could cut the net in half (lengthways) and still have enough depth. I would agree with the others though the mesh is to small.
  17. Just found this guy on youtube, seems to have loads of mid to late 90's stuff.
  18. On the drive to the mark, who filled the motor up? Always felt bass could pick up on the fumes......
  19. Socks my old whippet greyhound treed 2 black bears, (both by accident while camping), it was just luck that neither stood there ground or chased her back to me and the wife lol...... Not the best photo but this was her with a shot one...
  20. Yep looks like a color phase black, and agreed, not sure it would of ended as well with a grizzly with Cubs, still very brave of her though
  21. Yep true, but i would bet there is a far larger % of the population here that hunts, (and owns trail cams etc) compared to the uk. On the flip side though, there is an awful lot more wild, remote areas here as well....
  22. Picture is legit mate, Guys name is Steve Ecklund: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/steve-ecklund-cougar-alberta-1.4459546 https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-42447045 Edited to add the BBC link
  23. I don't have an opinion either way on whether big cats are resident or not in the UK, but can say that over here where i hunt, there is a (supposedly) fairly large population of cougars (mountain lion). In the 9years i have been here, I have never seen one in the flesh, and no one i hunt with has, and some of those lads have hunted around there for 35 years. I have ran 4 game cameras on and off for the last 5 years and never had a photo of one either, and never seen one dead on the road. But they are around, the lads that hunt / tree them with dogs get them, the ranchers lose cattle to them,
  24. Great photos KimE, looks very similar to here in Canada with spruce, birch, poplar and beavers, , amazing really when you are approx 6200km away as the crow flies (straight line).?
