  1. Think you mean cougar / mountain lion pal, thats not a puma
  2. Photo is legit mate, there is quite a few reports on it, and considering that guy is supposed to be 6'5" it's a very big cat ?
  3. LOL Tell me about it, I spent a good week fleshing, degreasing and home tanning this wolf my son shot, only for the lab to chew the nose / face...
  4. 18 inches of ice, minus 18 and nothing but a few tiny perch and a solitary small walleye.... Heading home now to get ready for the celebrations, all the best to everyone for 2023!
  5. Good result Bell, our bird hunting is finished now till the spring snow goose season opens, the local lakes have around 14" of ice and 6" of snow on top of them, and I haven't seen a duck or goose in probably 6 weeks....
  6. Looks good Wolfie, but think you should angle the main pole a bit when setting, or once sprung you might find the rat climbing the pole.
  7. Yes mate, and my son has a bull moose tag, shot a spiker wt last night. First cold spell we have had, crazy weather this year for sure.
  8. Got permission on a field that was absolutely loaded with snow, speckelbelly and Canada's, as well as ducks, (speaking with the farmer he reckoned somewhere around 2500 geese). It was misty/ foggy at first light but between me and my son ended with 4 snows, 14 specks, 2 Canada's and 10 ducks in 2.5hrs shooting, dog did great as well on only his second goose hunt.
  9. I still laugh out loud every time I think about my mate picking one up when we cornered it on the school field, and that's more than 30 years ago.... your right, them feckers can bite ??
  10. The dog retreived his first (and 2 and 3rd) geese today, he made a meal of the 1st and dragged it most of the way back, but by the 3rd he had it (mostly lol) figured out.
  11. You are probably right there is more chance of a black bear attacking you than a griz, i cant be arsed looking up the numbers but there is probably 300 or more blacks for every griz in most areas where the populations co exist, and not a lot of areas where griz are common... I can tell you most people out here who are around lots of bears see blacks as a pest / nuisance, and griz as unpredictable and a real danger. Obviously with wild animals making generalizations is not that wise but most black bear are fairly timid and scared of people, griz just don't give a feck about humans full stop. A
  12. There are plenty of wolves here where we hunt, as well as black and grizzly bear, and cougar. I would certainly agree with what u say on them been a clever, top level predator, but if I had to bet I would say the farmer would be scared of them from a damage ($) perspective, rather than personal injury. Bears, moose, cougar and even coyote are a far bigger risk than wolves. The wolves (with the exception of the habituated / fed ones in the parks) seem to have an inbred fear of humans and if u are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of one they are gone as soon as they spot or wind you. 13. Found this an enjoyable short vid from Sitka on labs
  14. I have a savage mark 2 lefty in 22 that has a cheap busnell banner on it, it's been fine the 8yrs I've had it Wolfie.
  15. Glen Waters did a very good write up on rat snaring Rat Snaring | The Hunting Life WWW.THEHUNTINGLIFE.COM
  16. Thanks mate, he's a pleasure to own (most of the time lol)
  17. This is him at 17months, marking a Sandhill crane, training still going well, am really looking forward to getting him out when our season opens Sept 1st
  18. Here is a few pics of my mates cabin where we hunt, we put it up at the start of season and take down in December, 3 layers of tarp for the roof with clear plastic 2 layer windows, way more room and comfort. Chairs, mattresses, woodstove, pans and rest of gear with little value is stashed in a locked shed through the year to save carting it in and out. His old man built it in the 80s. Miles from anywhere and quad / Argo/ snowmachine only to get to. Again stayed in this for up to a week to minus 30s with no problems.
  19. So long as space and weight aren't an issue you cant beat a canvas tent with wood stove for portable winter camping. I have stayed out for up to a week a few times in temps down to the minus 30s and loved it.
