  1. gnipper -your correct mate you do lose a lot of birds with tipplers -too much grub and they just keep going up! so high that im sure they go into space! lol these special little birds are born to fly -ive had squeakers barely old enough to feed themselves take off and stay up for a few hours -it takes a patient bloke /person to get a good kit settled as it can get very disheartening when a whole kit dissapears
  2. sometimes you need binoculars to see your birds they fly as a kit in 3.s or 5.s- on initial liberation they will go very very high [especially on a clear day] but after about 10 hrs they will steady themselves and fly a little lower -my final feed before a competition would be canary seed and water would have pigeon tonic in it and they would be bursting to get out of kit boxes -one day i will go back into high flyers but not competitive just a hobby
  3. see if you have a tiplpler club near you mate and join it it may take a while to friendly with them [funny secretive lot] lol but im sure you will taking a step in right direction -birds types to look for =shanon- pilot- hughes- plester and ive seen lovats fly good good luck mate ps keep you micky mouse birds for droppers as without droppers you wont get tipplers down
  4. tipplers fly --its telling them to stop being the hard part lol -my mates fly racers and they have a real passion for it ,but they keep telling me how expensive its become =billy
  5. shamo- the midland lads breed good tipplers as do sunderland lads they fly a hughesx type of bird that seems to do the job but im informed peregrines are a pain in arse with them nowadays there is a "turkish" high flyer that will do ok? but it wont compete with our strain of birds -training and competition can be very technical in the feeding side of things
  6. tumblers will not fly as long as a high flyer totally different but both nice birds to keep -high flyers are a nightmare to settle but once settled give you loads of of enjoyment -i flew "pilots" probably the toughest to settle but boy could they fly! liberated at 5 in morning still going strong at tea time [when i came home from work] and i would let the droppers out at 7- 8 pm and still struggle to drop them down . -my longest fly time was 19 half hours but i know lads who have went past the 20 hr mark -these birds are truly the athletes of the pigeon world ps not for the faint hearte
  7. never owned rollers but was a keen tippler [high flyer] lad and as has been said make sure you buy from proven birds ie birds that will fly 15hrs + good luck with it pal any info just ask -billy
  8. there has been an "escapee" eagle owl local to me for a few years now mate

  13. an hour + in whooler area mate and 40 mins durham area
  14. your right rez -im going to refurbish the stock[again] lol buddy bottle paint work is rough as a badgers arse -but she is a working tool and does the job it was built for mate -i will stick a pic up when ive tidied her up -billy
  15. sub 12 mate Thought so billy, because of the shorter barrel. Better handling though, mines got a 24 inch barrel and it handles like a line prop. Deadly accurate though. yeh i also use a mk2 rapid and it is also deadly sub 12 both rifles are nicely balanced for me mate

  17. this is an old pic of the 1st cross i used very heavy but very powerful pre ban 1980,s
  18. drove through pea soup to get to permission and it wasnt much better on arrival 1st few shots had me questioning myself as i missed some fairly easy ones once the 1st one was in bag my confidence was raised and i took a few 30yd ones i was wet but i sort of just chilled out for the day and enjoyed myself -billy
  19. the dog i mentioned in my earlier post [glen] would kill a fox in seconds he just had the knack -he was marked up as a young dog but as he got older /wiser he was rarely bitten a very heavy powerful dog that would never let you down given half a chance -he was run on any terrain -marked a fox earth differently to marking other ground game -if fox was at home he would position himself away from the earth and very rarely got it it wrong when fox was bolted if i were to go back into the lurcher game this is the x i would choose for my way of life- biddable /honest -----ps good post
  20. tally-dont get ya knickers in a twist i wasnt having a pop at you just saying how it were when i worked lurchers -some right touchy buggers on this lurcher forum -no wonder everyone says its the most argumentative forum around-storm i totally agree with you in that a lot dont make the grade but when you get a good one it really is a good one but that can be said about most crosses i reckon -billy
  21. thanks lads i seperated them and played a few songs to them =nowt! a mate has given me a nice red factor cock bird that is singing its heart out and still nowt from other two -must be hens eh? -billy
