  5. Had an hour out with Jimmy and Bob tonight, there was no wind and a clear sky but at least it was dark. A bit too dark for me. The farm I took Jimmy to tonight is one i've lamped numerous times and I always work it the same way and tonight it was no different, except for. We went through the yard, turned left and climbed over the gate, there was a JCB sitting on the track so I went to walk by the side of it but ended up going head first into a 3 foot trench. Hence the reason the digger was there, once i'd got myself out and cleaned the worst of the mud off it was onto the rabbits. Bob ran

  13. Well after 3 weeks of either fog or hard frost I finally got back out with Bob and even had Jimmy for company. The conditions were far from ideal,it was flat calm and some of the lower ground was covered in a light fog. That wasn't going to stop us however and we entered the first field at 7.30pm. With it being calm the rabbits were not for sitting tight and seemed also to be a bit thin on the ground. We walked about 8 fields and didn't get a slip in some of them. We didn't do badly considering the lack of rabbits as Bob managed to catch 9. I must admit he had some really good pick ups to
  14. You're lucky to be getting out Whin,as SJM says the ground is still way to hard to run a dog on over here. It's raining at the moment so hopefully it'll help soften the ground and I might be able to lamp tomorrow night.
  15. Probably the worst thing you could have done mate [i gave him a clout when he did come back], I would imagine he'll associate the clout with coming back. Then he'll be thinking to himself feck that going back to him,he just hit me. If you are keen to "give him a clout" it would be far better to give him one when he's in the act of doing wrong, which would mean you having to run across the field to him and catching him when he's hunting up.
  16. I'm pretty sure that's not the case threbb, don't think there's any law that says a greyhound must be muzzled when it's in a public place. About a year ago my friends son [who was 18] was walking 2 unmuzzled greyhounds when a cat walked out from below a hedge right into the dogs.Needless to say the cat was in a bad way and died at the vets. When the owners arrived at my mates door kicking up a stink he apologised and offered to pay the vets bill. They said they didn't know what they were going to do,they mentioned going to the police. My mate then told them he was happy to pay the vets b
  17. I find it easier to start a pup off retrieving in an enclosed area like an alleyway.Try to block both ends, this way the pup will have nowhere to bolt to with the dummy.

  20. Agreed that a lot of retired greys have come from the NGRC,but once they've been adopted they are not under any NGRC rules. It is then up to the new owner wether they muzzle them/it or not. As someone who has owned and trained greyhounds for over 20 years I would fully agree with you that when they "start" they can take some stopping. I had one that was extremely firey,if when he was out a walk and saw a cat, rabbit or small dog and obviously couldn't get to it he would attack the dog next to him.He had to be muzzled everytime he was walked with other dogs, also the other dogs had to be muzzl
