  1. pts mate, easier all round. he was bred for one job and has failed, im all for second chances but with the wankers in the dog game the last few years i dont know if its possible to guarentee a happy ever after............ best of luck eitherway.
  2. your not on this side of the pond mate, im sure some of the ridgebacks over your way are from working stock. we on the other hand havent had the oppertunity to utilise the breed for what they were intended for many moons now!! secondly how much of there positive attributes are directly from the ridgeback? im asking that as curiosity.
  3. if a chap resorts to breeding from generations of non working stock what does he hope to achieve?? how many ridgebacks have worked in the uk or eire?? imo fek all, so why bother. to gain size and heavier build maybe but you will find other working dogs to add them qualities plus more. if its not broke dont fix it, there is a cross there for all game and a ridgeback isnt present in any of them so why bother..........
  4. i wouldnt think that complaint is due to a wheel bearing lab, was the noise in it before you changed the discs and pads?
  5. 50 for a half hour down here for the escort ireland women. what do you want an hour for, to tell them your life story after you pump them??? 30 mins does spot on and i find i also get to tell them most of my life story before the 30 mins is up!!!
  6. the humming gets loader the faster you go with a wheel bearing gone, should have said if the wobble is bad enough to feel then the humming would be pretty obvious for a long time before the wobble appeared!! they progressely get louder the longer they are left.
  7. 1, loose wheel studs, 2. balancing/tracking is out 3. wheel bearings gone but should be obvious when driving.......... describe the problem, are they wobbly when accelerating, braking, stationary and you physically wobble them???

  15. ive only just had a conversation about this with a pal, the only thing i can say about coursing pup prices is the history and breeding is all tracable and everyone in the game can verify the line history of the pups for sale, the dogs have a massive amount of time and effort put into them and are really tested, there is a possibility that the pups could be matched and in turn generate a few quid. where as a lurcher from joe soap, supposed to be this that or the other, only seen working by the owner who is funnily the owner of the pups for sale, they cant justify big prices........ handy m

  18. this specific animal will never reach the accredited title of all rounder, "IT" aint built for soft ground!! put a digger accross it and the pups should be better if they throw towards the sire and come with tracks!!!
  19. spot on, how many purpose bred dogs does a running dog have to replace before it can be called an all round running dog? be realistic here lads. j darcy in any of the many books you have written, running dog addiction and the likes (ive read some but not all so open to correction) have you compared the lurchers abilities to work to the gun, ive seen loads of fabulous pictures in your books but none of a lurcher retrieving ducks from a lake or swollen river, none of a lurcher retrieving a pheasant to the hand of a waiting gun........ they may be there but i havent seen them (yet)! you write ab

  21. paulus as i have said if they do it it is a bonus, im sure there are oceans of them that do it but if they didnt do it but done all other running game would you rob them of the title an all round running dog? some of the lurchers ive had would retrieve dead or wounded game, would flush different bits and pieces from cover but it wouldnt bother me if they didnt, and in reality my earlier post i stated that they are not as good as a dog bred for purpose, ie the saluki hybred for hare, bullx for fox, so in reality how will the lurcher compare to a purpose bred gun dog.... poorly imo so ill use th
  22. with all due respect and im not saying this in a smart way but a lurcher is a running dog, if it does all the game previously mentioned and never used with a gun then imo yes, it an allrounder. A spaniel or pointer is a gun dog....... i dont ever work any lurcher with a gun and if they did it would possible be a bonus but i use a purpose bred gun dog for gun work. a german pointer is a HPR, as are most of the continental breeds, where as the english pointer isnt HPR, retrieve isnt in its title, some do retrieve, some dont, that doesnt stop them being a gun dog........ if they retrieve its a b
  23. I agree, some sort of spaniel or hound would be the obvious choice. Altough I do feel that the mute hunting of most cockers and springers I've seen is a serious fault in a bushing dog, the hunting up close in the way cockers and springers do as well. A busher should not travel 300 yards but all the cockers and springers I've worked with work to close to the handler for my taste. A small german wachtel or maybe a german jagd which is in fact an outstanding busher , would be nice if you're talking pure breeds. Think that this sort of hunting is where the designer mutts come in, as in designed f
