  1. Robson & Prescott. Cheaper than most of the other vets in this area Buck. Do not know how much they will charge for docking, but they are definitely working dog savy

  3. Love him What type is he?
  4. Thank you Ronnie They all seem to know their place. Would not get half as many without the lurchers. Thank you all. Keepa was a very lucky find
  5. Well you might think a post with 73 photos is a bit much, but considering i took 661 it is significantly less than it could have been Please forgive the poor quality, the old camera is well overdue a service. One of the things i love the most about ratting is watch men turn into little boys again! I'm not saying a word about this pic  Keepa is not daft cuddling up to the gamekeeper of the estate Plenty of tracks. It has only taken 3 seasons ratting for Boo to finally decide he would have a go,
  6. Roughly judging, i do it by eye rather than weight. Mine get about a man's fist worth in the bowl once per day. Then watch your dog for adjustments needed. When feeding barf you will be amazed how little the dog actually needs (poo's less also) Remember to vary the diet, some meat like rabbit for example does not have enough of everything it needs. Feel but not see the ribs, but i like to see a terrier have a waist and tucked up tummy.
  7. Mine are chipped and ear tattoo'd (most of them) cant get anyone local to tattoo anymore! The way i see it, a dog you have spent much time training and nurturing, who works well for you and you want to keep it, then do everything you can to lessen the chances of it getting lost or stolen. Accidents do happen, dogs might chase things they are not supposed to. I would rather have a bit oif hassle for that then have to start all over again with a pup, which you dont know will turn out as good as the dog you lost cos you couldn't be arsed to chip etc
  8. Great post and pictures, she is a lovely little dog and a handy sort to have by the sound of it. I wonder what made her do that with the hare? My whippet was literally nose to nose with a fox a year or two back, the fox made up his mind the whippy wasn't worth bothering about and calmly trotted away, Boo came bouncing back to me grinning from ear to ear wagging his tail Funny things dogs
  9. Lovely, how old is she? OOp's ignore that question, read the title again She is going to be just right/size and shape...for my kind of dog anyway. Looks to have a sensible head on her also
  10. I know many people in built up areas bring their cock birds indoors at night. Put them in a cat carrier with a blanket over and stick them in a cupboard. The birds get used to it very quickly. They let them back out through the day thank moll interesting its a possibility i guess! would he not then crow through the day or is it more of a morning thing? and do a few times in the house before going out again in its pen. i could always use a shock collar lol!! They will still crow through the day, but their crow is not that loud. Plus if he is the only cockerel in the area he wont ne

  12. Tonight.... 160mile round trip, 3hrs driving about £40 diesel for............. 2 rabbits This land is my good friends permission, go weekly/fortnighly, it usually holds good numbers but it gets hammered every year. Tonight, there was no wind and a thick frost on the grass, you could hear me crunching for miles, the only rabbits out were hugging the hedge lines. I was only going to give him a few runs anyway as he is well out of condition, but after miles of empty fields the ground started to get hard so called it a night early. The ratting starts soon for us. Up
  13. wow all that from a woman such wise words,do you wash pots nd iron too, sorry koker What's an iron
  14. No, supplements are a waste of money if they are healthy and you are already giving them a balanced diet imo Steve. I used to buy all sorts of stuff for them, from high performance supplements to seaweed, but they never looked/acted any different with or without Just proper exercise and work
  15. Is that not a double muscle whippet? http://www.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&biw=1270&bih=845&tbs=isch:1&&sa=X&ei=MclCTbS0N4G2hAfx29jIAQ&ved=0CDIQBSgA&q=double+muscled+whippet&spell=1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myostatin
  16. I've a staffie x whippet, she figures so much out it is scarey. She taught herself to climb a wooden ladder over 6ft to sneak into my bed (it is a high loft bed) Her new party trick is opening the raised dog cages in the back of the car to get INTO the cage to be with the other dogs Great little dogs I've a bull x bitch who will make believe someone is coming on the premises so the other dogs run to the door barking so she can get the best seat, they fall for it every time When i first moved here (rural with no neighbours) the dogs barked one night...something was outside. I got up t
  17. Please dont think i am being cheeky. But is the dog well muscled? I've noticed a great many people confuse under muscled dogs with underweight ones. I became aware of this when my dogs have been laid up due to injury, they appear to have lost weight even though they were being fed the same when working, so technically should have been gaining weight due to the lack of exercise. When a dog starts to lose muscle the back bone, pins etc etc which would normally be edged with muscle will be more visible, giving it the appearance of losing weight. My only other advice would be to get it worm
  18. The only dogs i've seen that can analyse something and figure out a solution have all been bull x's, my main reason for using this type is their brains and eagerness to learn. They do tend to want to get things done, no matter what the consequences, which i think makes people confuse that behaviour with lack of brains. You do get dumb bullies, dumb collies in just the same way you get dumb dog owners Your dog is at that daft stage, got the brains of an adolescent with a powerfull body and hunting desire. The truth is the more he gets wrong the more he will learn from it, training will a
  19. This is only my opinion, but based on my experiences. When the plummers were first around, they were bred to hopefully be digging dogs. Hence the shape/size they were. When the hunting ban came in certain breeders (not all) have changed the look of the terrier, after first promoting the dog as an earth dog they changed tact as they believed at first digging was banned, then realised that the general public would find the thought of a dog killing fox less appealing than a dog killing horrible nasty vermin, so the current plummers you see are skinny long legged, now promoted as ratting dogs...wh
  20. If you are breeding for personal use, then it is your choice to use your own young and relatively unproven dog. But imo a young lad like this is not ready for any 'stud' work. Working dogs and losing dogs is a threat to all of us, but part and parcel of hunting with them. If everyone bred a dog as soon as it did something good then there would be hundreds of thousands of sub standard lurchers. I am not saying pups from this dog would be sub standard, but realistically he is not fully proven, nor will be for a few more season yet
  21. Same here, not being able to turn around or move my arms, i can get into a cold sweat just thinking about it
  22. Just my opinion RFYL, but would you not be better waiting a few seasons before breeding him. He wont even have had 2 full seasons work yet, he is still just a youngster himself
