brother in law has looked into this extensively for his house rebuild. He has gone for ground source heat pump, backed up with solar panals. I also looked into air to air heat pumps for a swimming pool, but feedback was that it wasn't all its cracked upto be

Cracking little dog. For rabbit dogs I have found many people underestimate this as a cross. I have one an though at 20inch is a little short for lamping the land she is now worked on, she never fails to surprise with her early pace and agility collie x 1/4 beddy 3/4 whippet

What's this "Line Bred" Nonsense ?
trenchfoot replied to tommarshall's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If you over rely upon too closely related lines, then yes problems will occur. A good breeder has to be honest with themselves and accept when fresh blood being adding to the mix. Thats why hound shows had/have their benefit. It allows opportunities to find fresh bloodlines before breeding throws you a curve ball. -
What's this "Line Bred" Nonsense ?
trenchfoot replied to tommarshall's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
. Maybe, but a proven collie grey over another proven collie grey will more often throw a litter with less "wastage"I am not saying that you cannot get a great first generation half cross, but to maximise the chance of breeding a litter of good 'uns, you need to breed from proven stock on both sides. By line breeding proven lurchers, particularly from the same crosses, the more likely you are to end up with more offspring of the desired characteristics. JMO -
What's this "Line Bred" Nonsense ?
trenchfoot replied to tommarshall's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
line breeding in KC registered dogs has been done on the basis of breeding for form not function. Hence all those arse dragging GSD's that couldn't do a days graft, and bulldogs that look like freaky cartoon dogs, but cannot breath, let alone tangle with a bullock. Line breeding in lurchers (and other true working type dogs) is done on the basis of ability. Still don't mean it always works out that way though -
Because it's that wet here, I spend all day, everyday in wellies. My feet are dissolving

when you breed.......................
trenchfoot replied to watchman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
when I breed with a yapper, I just shove her face into the pillows -
Not knocking it, just something that I think its something that should be done without having the basics in place first. As a routine to keen up a young dog to retrieve it can have its place, equally as a way of reinforcing control of a dog in drive mode. But I have seen strong minded dogs get upside themselves when tugging, when the owner/trainer has not had the basics of control in place first. The end result being ruined retrieves and deaf eared, cocksure dogs

Not a "game" I'd want to play! And only if I was 100% certain that the dog would release on command. Strikes me of a sure fire way to ruin retrieving, and end up with a cocky dog! JMO, Yorkie

9 O levels, 4 A levels and a degree in land management. But for a couple of years in New Zeland and Namibia I never used anything I learned at Uni till the last couple of years. Now split my time running a healthcare company and a small holding.

Pretty difficult going around Selby by all accounts -
any person experienced in their own field can be classed as an expert by those people who seek advise from them. The more people who accept their advise, then the more likely it is that that person is worthy of the title. If a person calls themselves an expert then that is another matter. "ex" = something that has been + "spurt" = a drip under pressure. Skycat, I don't believe that you fit into the second catagory . ATB, Yorkie

Shooting and lurcher work, compatible or not ???
trenchfoot replied to Casso's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
It can be done. I Started out with dogs, then got into game shooting. I must admit to having had a few sniffy comments when I turned up on a fairly prestigious shoot with my collie/beddy/whippet as a peg dog. Got even more when she proceeded to wipe the eyes of a few of the Labradors on the day. I love a days mooching with dog and gun on my own too. They also come in handy for retrieving shot foxes -
they dont like putting the hours in do they. the clock on the landy was show 1.00am. Clueless, useless and fecking lazy

That'll be because I used copies of the hunting with dogs act to line his kennel, and he's been reading them during the off season. Who says bull crosses are thick!

There was a racket around the chickens a couple of nights ago, so I grabbed the Clulight LED torch that I use around the yard etc. and one of the lurchers. Charlie is running yards across the field. Lamp on it and the dog never even flinched. Walked further on, shone it on a few bunnies and same thing. Now this dog has proven his worth on the lamp many times before. The only difference is the change in quality of the light. the LED one is very white, almost blue, where as the usual lightforce etc type has a softer, yellowy tone to it. To check this theory out I took him out for a quick r

snapped my shotgun stock info needed please
trenchfoot replied to 19powell90's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
It may work. However it would have been better if it had been drilled and pinned. There is not a lot of "meat" in the head of the stock, so it may be difficult. If you have handled the gun as described, is would suspect that the crack was already there when you bought it. Any work on the stock without the support of the action will have weakened it. Not sure how the gun shop will react. Sorry I can't be of more help -
turn the pump off if it is runnining without any flow. It will burn itself out. If you are not on mains water supply then it may be worth checking the in line filters on the flow in side of the pump, they can get blocked up with crud and eventually affect the switching mechanism of the pump. Good luck

Foxing with Shotguns, following the Combines.
trenchfoot replied to bullmastiff's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Those SAGA cartridges are only 36g loads? that seems very light? and as the actual size of the balls is 8.65mm their twice the size of BB shot (4.5mm per ball). That means it would be about 8 pellets compared to the BB's 50 per oz. AAA are better than the saga '00' at about 36 pellets per oz. I don't see how you feel that fewer pellets travelling slower would be a better cartridge for running fox than was originally used??? yes light load cause you dont need 42g and 50g loads like BBs, at up to 30 yds devastating get some and see. I struggle to see how these would be more effect -
