No one's decrying the old greats, it's the bulk of the old timers that used bad practice, don't tell me it didn't happen, I saw it go on with my own two eyes. It was the dogs that made these men great, you could say it was his skill in the field but at the end of the day without the tools you're nothing. What I was trying to say is good working terriers are a dammed sight more common now than they've ever been, the standard of dogs are up and the standard of terrier work is up. Sadly a quick look on FB will prove that getting good terriers is far to easy and lads jump in at the deep end with

There's failing and there's failing. If a youngster struggles too get around because of it's size or lack of experience then yes I'd give it every chance to blossom and learn it's trade. If it walked through cowardice then it'll never be right no matter how much you persever, cowardice is definitely a shooting offence.

Every modern dog comes from dogs from yesteryear, that's obvious, the things a few of the older generation did (especially the boys you talk about) was to show us there was another way. Two'ing up still goes on, I personally saw a hunt terrier man drop three terriers in for his fox while out with a Shropshire pack last week. This boys in a book, flashing lights and everything, it certainly doesn't make him a terrier man in my eyes, useless c**t. Hats off too the generation of good terrier men that paved the way for good honest lads to keep a yard of single handed terriers. DR was the name I

I'd agree with you Neil, the standard from what I've personally seen is by far better than what I knew when I started. Every one of the old boys around me two'd up, if they say other when in company they wouldn't say it in font of me, I'd be on them like a tramp on a bag of chips. Look at all the fuss about Smithy, Toddy and Nancy and well I could go on and on but at the end of the day they were simply a terrier doing it's job.

Chesney, there's no getting away from shit stirrers or clicky b*****ds mate, jealous people abound in the testosterone fueled world of idiots and terriers. I packed up and spent two years carp fishing, I traveled all over and spent a fortune but I still couldn't get away from jealous pricks and clicky groups, it's a man thing mate and the grass isn't any greener on the other side. Do your own thing and enjoy life, I keep the company of dogs, no bullshit and no lies.

That's what trouser and shirt pockets are for, they're not a fashion statement, they're an essentiall piece of kit. Try two pairs of socks, wipe your arse on one of them, tie them around a branch and let the weather clean them off for your next shit !

He was six years old, still in his prime. I've plenty of stuff by him, his sister and brother too. There was a litter born to him in Wales a few days before I lost him that's bred as good as they get, 10 pups, seven lived. The pick of the bunch so far- 39 replies
