  1. Tonight I made roe bourgignon with mixed root mash, it went down a treat, extremely rich.
  2. Got most poaching books in my collection, not seen that one before.
  3. I live roach jobs, unfortunately get very few come in down here, probably only done about 6 in over 20 years.
  4. Everyone's desperate for milkers down this end, my Mrs finally gave up her last farm 3 years ago, £40 a milking getting up at 4am? Her last farmer rang up last week asking if she'd be willing just to fo a few a year to cover his holidays at £65 per milking? She earns that these days every hour at most sweeping, doesn't get kicked, lagged in shit or get up before 7am But....... we both still miss the cows ???
  5. Personally I would take it out of the mount ( carefully) make sure the sovereign wasn't damaged while being mounted, if it's still unmarked keep the coin and sell of the mount to the online scrap buyers. My sovereigns are currently worth more than twice what I paid for them, unless Elon musk finds mars is full of gold they will only increase in value. Having said that gold did take a hit about 8 years ago, but since soared again.
  6. I stupidly did a 45 gallon barrel a few year ago because we had such a glut, that bugger went sour, thankfully all the six gallon containers turned out lovely. Funny thing was I siphoned the sour one out the cider shed and ran it through the chicken pen ( shortest route) the birds were lapping it up, didn't affect them though which was very disappointing.
  7. Hopefully in august onwards I shall start drinking these 48 gallons of scrumpy I made today. Will average about 7.5-8.5% if the cider fairy's are kind this winter.
  8. Haven't given it a moments thought then? ?
  9. They any good? We are looking at buying some from different makers for an upcoming trip.
  10. We are walking up there most weekends now, literally just got back an hour ago, mainly tor bagging at the moment, but doing a reccy for stealth camping spots too. Lovely pics and write up.
  11. Damn , glutton fir punishment ?
  12. Except its only funny if it wasn't true.
  13. Sorry, didn't think about that bit. Mainly sweet red gooseberries, cooking apples, rhubarb, red and white onions, fresh chillies, demerara and brown sugar, red wine vinegar and cider vinegar, garlic and stuff ?
  14. About another 20 minutes it'll be ready to jar.
  15. Not really the weather for making chutney, but the fruit is ready, so cook I will. This one's a fruity hot and spicey, goes with mackerel, any game meat and very mature cheddar.
  16. Cooling down nicely here, watching thus years Jacob lambs smash up the chicken pen while I smash two cheeseburgers, they are doused in the obligatory carolina reaper hot sauce, if I'm peckish after she's knocked up a quiche too.
  17. Not cooked yet, been picking most of the morning, serious amount of jam making tonight and tomorrow. I'm also thinking gooseberry and rhubarb spicey chutney.
  18. Except its only funny if it wasn't true.
  19. Doesn't look much, but it's a boned out roe haunch cooked on red onions, spiked with garlic and covered in smoked streaky. Tastes awesome.
  20. No coming back from thus one. No guessing who the first two to chuck their hat in the ring will be.
