Daytime,s the best for me,id rather watch a sunlit, rather than lamplit gallop, the best memories are often the one,s that escaped to run, more educated again, saying that an impossible run over obstacles and the unintentional shouts of encouragement, the tension and curses that arise with every twist and turn, the extra yard gained at a fence or gate and the sheer thrill of the mutt again getting back on terms, the final surge and lunge, the heartrending squeal that signals the ending of a memorable gallop, then later wishing it could have just turned a tad quicker, made the extra yard and been there t

If you don,t want the risk of a dog entering below, don,t get a terrier.

The problem now is that genuine lads wanting to meet up are viewed with an air of caution, sad reflection on the laws we have to abide by now.The offer this lad put up would have been met far more favourably not that many years ago and some would be only to willing to give the lad a chance, yet today because of the dirty, sneaky and cowardly ways some of these anti hunting twats go about their ignorant activities,we have to be over cautious even when working the mutts within the confines of the prejudices the law puts us under.

Ratting Groups Around Southyorkshire.
morton replied to Poacherspocket's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
The longer you wait for somebody else to show some initiative the older the dogs will get, without finding graft.Get off your arse and go and have a look see, rats are not hard to locate and dogs and rats will soon educate the watcher, the more you get out,the more you and the mutts will learn, get a few mates and any mutts they can muster, any dog will rat, well most.Happy ratting. -
Anybody with the interest of the host at heart will understand the precautions that MUST be taken to safeguard their lifestyle and the welfare of their mutts,if they fail to realise then they should,nt be invited to tag along.

Ive had a few dogs stolen in the past,my own fault for living to close to Bradford?.my detterent now is an Akita, the 3rd we have had here in the last 20 years,i have never had a dog stolen for 20 years,if they get past the Akita they can have all and sundry with pleasure, they will have earnt it,Rottys are lazy fat fecks that enjoy their kip,Akitas, proper uns, earn their snap. The only problem ive encountered was recent, the lurcher bitch and the Akita had a set to,the lurcher came a poor third and will miss the start of the season as she recovers,i split them up after 10 seconds, any numpty that w

Couple of nice terriers,Danny get some reputable lurcher judges next year, seriously a weak skulled dog that takes best in show, comes second in the bull class,is not the way to go. -

Hair Lost On My Whippet/greys Tail ? Help!!

I love the variable. I've got the 210 and find that it doesn't spook anything on very low. Even if the place is lamp shy. Have it low enough to just see the eyes and slip the dog. Then turn it up when the dog is on the quarry. TOO MUCH FCUKING ABOOT GAZ.....JOOST HOLD THE BEAM OVER THE TOP OF THE QUARRY,WHEN THE DOG APPROACHES PUT IT DOWN.....SIMPLES.. So thats how its done?,no wonder i catch feck all JUST ASK MATE.... Now all i need to do is borrow a dog and lamp,do i need to feed the dog and polish the lamp?.

i had a chrome spotlight with a handle on it that fell off an old digger The only old diggers now are 40 year old smack eds,one of them was once a useful lamping lad, memories.

I honestly don,t know how some of us managed to lamp not that long ago, acid battery,s,usually off unattended motorbikes and a lamp or 2 from an unguarded 4 wheel drive or souped up Cortina. The best lamp ive ever owned and which i accounted for the most numbers was an acid battery of a bike and a Wippac lamp.

Ive had the pleasure of witnessing a number of mutts that bushed, the best imo have been terriers of parentage unknown, only these have been able to bush at speed in the tightest of cover, any dog? will bush, the speed that they can keep up to whats in front of them is often an indication of what is caught and what gets away, some of these bigger bred bushers can bush, unless it gets tight, only when you have seen a dog that needs to get in and through tight spots will you realise what some of these mutts that struggle, because of their size, lack, over a smaller jukel. My preference at the mo is Beddys,

I think they have limited uses, apart from that they look a decent set of distance runners.
-
The people who own and work them allready know what a useful mutt they are,its when people start comparing them to other crosses i.e. Bull and saluki types and saying they are better, they certainly are better at runs and quarry that suit them, but would be far inferior at other times, work the dog to its potential and enjoy it for that, then become a tad more realistic.
-
Ive yet to meet a lurcher owner that can see as well, scent as well or sense as wll the quarry in front of it,now thats an owner that deserves the mythical Norfolk type runner, worker and feeder, not many of them in Yorkshire
-
Keepers that do 60 or hour weeks, the lucky ones, have better things on their agenda than putting up with irresponsible lurcher owners, its often easier to dispense with the runnable quarry, lamp shoot and despose, rather than stay alert all hours waiting for the next summer hunters, they seldom have the same problems when its dark, damp and cold.
