  1. The reason you bait an unset trap is to build its confidence. When a fox approaches a trap he will be VERY wary of it, gingerly creeping round and round it, put a foot inside then bolting then getting half way in then bolting again, eventually grabbing a few feathers of the bait before bolting. A set trap might well go off at this point and the door will drop down on the foxes back as it bolts. That fox will never go near a trap again. If it gets to eventually take the bait away, eat it quite happily and tomorrow there is some more grub waiting for him he will be braver this time and still he
  2. You already know what time he will be about cos you light him up when you get home! I would try to lamp him using a coloured filter. If that dont work i would watch to see what way he goes then festoon the area with snares. This is only an option if nobody walks their dogs there! Cage traps are not very effective for clever foxes.
  3. The opening few sentences pissed me off and i though "oh here we f*****g go again, another programme commisioned by the antis" but on the whole i thought it was a very balenced film and there is an all to true prediction of what might happen to the hares if a ban were ever implimented. Tony bLiar you really are a special type of c**t!
  4. Maybe he (along with myself and quite a few others probably) think that you are a prick and cant be arsed answering you?
  5. Wait till the new season mate then take um ferreting. Net up the holes, stuick the ferret down one, stand back and wait quietly. When a rabbit hits the net let nature take its course. Renet the hole before taking the rabbit off the dog, plenty of praise and take it from there.
  6. Introducing the newbie! Lol!
  7. 1) I advise you to get a lamp mate and go out as often as you can with it and both enjoy yourselves. 2) I advise you to get ferrets as well. They dont cost millions and they dont ask for much. 3) Rolling in grass is something dogs do, thats all it means. 4) Dont worry about myxi rabbits, they cant pass anything onto the dog or yourself and youle be doing them a favour by killing them. 5) Re the charlies, shoot them. 6) Last week I was out with the dog and althogh my recall is now good I allow him out of my sight, he came back really crying, limping so much I was con
  8. Its a cracker mate! Use the sawdust and wood glue mixed together as a filler for that ripped bit, once youve put some stain on it it wont show at all mate.
  9. Found plenty of mole traps left there by people who dont know what there doing! Lol!
  10. Only people who are bothered run boarding kennels, they insist on dogs jabbed up (suppose legally they'd have to). My vets have never asked in all of these years, despite taking the pup to get jabbed even though the old dog hadn't been done since the first booster! A greedy vets might try and apply pressure. Thats for insurance reason mate, if a dog in their kennels gets parvo they can say "well we made sure all out guests were up to date with their jabs, we done our best". Coverin arse basically. So anyway.............anybody help out?
  11. A TENNER ?? My local vet quotes £40 for boosters !!..... not a chance !! Cheers. Thats why im askin on here and not the vet! Lol! The fella i used to get um off did um a tenner. If someone else charges a bit more so be it but i will be jabbin the dogs.
  12. Im going to anyway cos a tenners fook all compared to the life of a faithfull, hard worker and bloody good mate and i wouldnt want to see ANY dog die of parvo etc least of all one of my own iv brought up, nurtured, cared for and trained from scratch. Soooooooooo..................anyone?
  13. Is anyone seling dog jabs? Two of my dogs are coming due for their yearlys and my usuall fellas not got any in. Anyone help please?
  14. It wont make a difference to the dogs work but it is a bit fookin drastic! Lol! A bitch will only come in season once or twice a year and its easy to tell. Can she not just be seperated from the dog for a couple of weeks once or twice a year? Bring her in the house, give her to a mate or family member till her seasons over? Theres loads of options mate. Even if the dog does get to her you can get her injected to end the pregnancy.
  15. DOG???? Did you say DOG????!!! When i phoned the c**t he told me he never has less than 13 litters ready to go at any time! Now consider a bitch only comes into season once a year, how many bitches has he got? A f*****g lot and all they do is churn out puppies and make him rich! They dont work they dont have time and he dont have any interest in working them. HE IS A PUPPY PEDDLER ON AN EPIC SCALE, i wouldnt piss on him if he was on fire! DO NOT SUPPORT HIM!! By all means get a collie x greyhound, just not from him.
  16. Ah didn't know that would be great to have a lesson I live in West Wales, What is the best time to start Ferreting?is there a season as such? during which months is it best to leave the rabbits alone? ATB Jono There is no legal close season but traditionally you only ferret when the month has an R in it so januaRy, febuRuary, maRch, apRil etc etc. I disagree with that these days tho, i caught a few pregnant doess over a month ago! I wont be ferreting now till september time when im sure theres no kits underground. Although rabbits can breed at any time of year so you can never guarantee
  17. Christ thats early, iv only just put my jill in with my hob this evening! Best of luck mate.
  18. I dont think its fair to be having a pop at the fella. His jill isnt yet pregnant so i reckon hese doing things the right way round. Yes he could go and buy a book but there is a lot of very knowledgable people on here, why shouldnt he ask them? Yes a book is a good idea and i also would advise him to get one but i also say that he will get a lot of advice a lot quicker on an internet forum (and this is the hunting life forum), ordering a book can take a week or more for it to turn up and if the jills in season now it needs a session asap in order to avoid the possible illnesses they can pick
  19. We all have days like that now n then mate. You want to pack up ferreting now though because there will be younguns to ground. This is the season we leave the rabbits etc alone to breed in peace so theres plenty about next season for us to chase. Also its not nice to think of ferrets killing a nest full of rabbit kits and if it layes up afterwards digging it out can be a pain in the arse! Where abouts are you based? I dont mind showing you and your friend the ropes next season if your not to far.
  20. All of my pups have been on raw meat and bones from the moment i got them. There was always a bowl of complete puppy (usually burns or beta) down for them too in case they wanted it. As said they also get a tin of sardines, pilchards, whatever in either tomatoe sause or oil, not brine. Eggs are good too. Always make sure you give them some blended up veg too tho, mix it in with mince meat or the fish or they wont eat it.
  21. A "born hunter" asking questions like that! Do yourself a favour mate and ask yourself 2 questions: is my jill a good worker? and is the hob my mates got a good worker? If you get 2 yeses then breed from them, if not dont. Colour dont even come into it.
