Whenever i get a pup i take it out with the others from the day i get it, all tucked up inside my coat with just its head poking out watching whats going on. Once its had its jabs its on the floor and following. We might just be bushing, we might be ferreting but the pup will be watching from my jacket from 6 weeks of age. I wont take them lamping untill they are 6 months plus and even then its only to watch and learn. I think that ferreting is the best way of teaching a dog whats what, they can get an interest in the rabbits and "catch" a few in the nets then recieve lots of praise and just p

Lots of locks, lots of camaras, lots of security lighting and lots of broken glass set in cement on top of all boundary walls. Kennels and runs............lots of locks again. Big angry guard dog running free inside the yard and a shotgun in case anyone dont get the hint! Lol!

I feed mine on nothing else mate. Butchers offcuts, bones, meat, almost out of date sausages. Basically everything he throws out. Downside is i have to go through it and get rid of the fat, skin, trotters, heads etc etc. Upside is its free and the best grub a dog can get. I make sure they get olive oil, blended up veg and a handfull of garlic granules as well to balance the diet out.

If its killing 11 out of 12 biggies its one f**k of a dog! Your mate could piss 10k by doing a few best out of 3 (or 5) coursing comps. He would also do very nicely from stud fees. And as has been said he will probably never find another dog like that. No brainer mate, keep the dog!

your right mate, your not the only one this happens too, the wiring on lightforce lamps are crap loads of people have had problems with them. i got the sparky at work to connect the wire inside the handle straight to the battery so there is no cig lighter ,coiled cable or dodgy connections to wory about. i bought a battery charger with crocodile clips for £15 Spot on. I have a lazerlight but my set up is cut off the fag lighter and those stupid bullet connecters, get a 1 metre lenght of wire from hardware store and connect it straight to the lamp cable using terminal block. I have an

Some dogs never learn to run outside the beam mate. It doesnt matter. So long they still catch the bunny who cares? Walk into the wind, light on, find bunny, light off, walk till you estimate you aint far off it, light on, spot bunny again. For the last bit keep light on and walk in. The dog should of seen it. As it lifts for the run, slip the dog and keep the light on the bunny.

My beagle x jack is a twat for not letting go. Its good really, its enthusiasm but sometimes you just want him to let you take it. I used to grab his bollox! Lol! My mate showed me this trick and it works, well to be fair i would let go of a rabbit if someone grabbed my balls! Lol! Dont hurt um, just cup um. Well i was doin this for a good few months, every rabbit that hit the net it was "good boy, give it" grab balls, kill rabbit, new net over hole, wait for next one. Then one day i missed and got hold of the flap of skin between his thigh muscle and rib cage. He still let go so i do that now

I remember as a kid my first ever trip ferreting. I was with my dad and a mate of his, jimmy. We found a bury and jimmy netted it up then said to me "go and have a look about boy, see if theres any more holes anywhere. We dont want to miss any". So off i wandered and found a hole under a tree about 100 yards away so i calls him over saying "theres a hole here jim". Il never forget his words: "they wont tunnel that far ya dinlow, what do you think they are? JCBs?"! Lol!

I dont think it is mate! Lol! Ian b owns thl and he certainly aint an anti. I saw somewhere recently a vid of him snaring. Being as he aint an anti i shouldnt think his mods are antis neither. And thl is run by ian b and the mods......................

As above. Iv had a few really good days ferreting and a few really good nights lamping. My ferrets have dined on rabbit everyday for months now and probably will be untill the start of next season. The dogs have dined on rabbit a few times to if i had any excess and iv had one or two in a game pie or stew or whatever. Killed a couple of pregnant does recently though so am on the verge of packing up for the summer. Another trip out on the lamp should finish filling the freezer and then im going to leave them alone to breed in peace.

Unfortunatley this sort of thing does happen. There is always a prick out there somewhere. 6 - 7 dogs? Why? Threaten to burn down farm? Why? Personally if a farmer/keeper or whoever were to approach me wrong side of fence i would play it by ear. If they simply ask me to leave i would say "fair play mate, im on my way, sorry to of been a nuisance". If they were rude/abusive/aggressive i would probably try to talk them down "whoo hold on mate, theres no need for that, im not here to do you any harm, i just wanted to catch a couple of rabbits, you obviously want me to leave so im on my way". If t

Above is the original post. So mickhick you put up a post asking us for "a few tips" ie advice on what we give our dogs during a night on the lamp and then have a pop at, belittle and shoot down everyone who does give you a tip! Well heres a tip for you: just put thread up saying "this is what i do, i know im right, i dont give a toss what you lot do, your all wrong"!

A squirty bottle is ok if your a clean freak i suppose. A puddle/lake/stream etc is good enough though. Just dont let them do much more then wet their mouth though because it will "blow" them and then you may as well just go home. As for chocolate, its a big NO, its poisonous to dogs. You CAN get doggy chocolate buttons from pet shops if you want to treat them.

Same as women really! Lol! 1 week coming in, 1 week in and 1 week going off.

If the cuts are just like scratches, salt water 3 times a day will do it. I use hydrogen peroxide 9% solution on anything that looks like it could get infected then cut heal. You can get cut heal in a paste, powder or spray. Iv never bothered with the powder and some dogs dont like the sound the spray makes and wriggle like mad. Also if the cut is near the eyes dont use spray. If there is lots of bleeding i use pottassium permanganate to stop the bleeding. As for closing a wound, you can buy vetinary skin staplers or use superglue. All depends on the situation, if it looks bad then get it to v

Ex-Racing greyhounds for rabbit?
DogMagic replied to SamBircumshaw's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Mate i wouldnt have an ex racer. Thats just my opinion though. A greyhound absolutely i would but not one that been brought up in the ways of the track. And if i did i would keep it a lead for a long time before i trusted it. An x track grey is an animal that runs flat out, it knows nothing other than top speed and straight lines. It will hit a fence or tree very soon and due to the speed it will do dreadfull damage to itself and heartache to you. They dont know that in the real world there are trees to go round or fences to go over, hell they dont even understand the concept of uneven ground! -
I think that brought as a pup and brought up as you would a lurcher they would be smashing on all quarry. Think about it, a pure greyhound is as fast as you can get, its undiluted and pure. Whatever you put into it (collie, bull, bedlington etc etc) waters it down and detracts from the speed. The only way of not detracting from the speed is to x it with another pure running dog (whippet for accelaration, saluki for stamina). A retired greyhound (ex track dog) only knows straight ahead and straight lines and not for very long at a time. Its body, muscles and bones have developed to be doin

You can't get pups chipped until they are 6 months old. As above, yes ye can. Iv had a few terrier pups from 8 weeks old, they all came ready chipped. They have to be due to the docking. My beagle x jack was 10 months when i got him and i had him chipped same time as the jabs. All of my dogs chips have migrated, usually down one of the front legs. I dread to think what might become of a running dog if the chip migrates along the spine or lodges in some other joint. Has anyone any experience of this?
