I think that brought as a pup and brought up as you would a lurcher they would be smashing on all quarry. Think about it, a pure greyhound is as fast as you can get, its undiluted and pure. Whatever you put into it (collie, bull, bedlington etc etc) waters it down and detracts from the speed. The only way of not detracting from the speed is to x it with another pure running dog (whippet for accelaration, saluki for stamina). Cheers chilly. I started off by screwing the back legs to the back panal. Then i screwed the front legs to the side panals then the side panals to the back legs. After that i just muddled through really adding the 2nd floor then the ground floor, nest box panal etc till it was done. The nest box is 1 ft wide by 2 tall and 2 deep. There is 3 ferrets in there at the moment but come the summer the hob will be moving out and it will be the 2 jills plus their youngsters. Without looking i think the mesh is 1 inch square, heavy duty mesh.

Cheers mart, that sounds good. I bet they love that! Zac the roof WAS going to be another sheet of 4x2 ply but when i put it on top it didnt quite reach so i went and bought a sheet of 6x2, painted it with the black bituminous stuff then painted the sheet of 4x2 as well and bolted the two together so the 4x2 overhangs the front of the cage by 6 inches.

Just a step by step piccy story of the new ferret cage i just finished building. The hole in pic 4 is the access to and from upstairs. Pic 7 shows the nest box entrance. 8 is the finished thing. I painted it in black bituminous paint to keep it weather proofed and varnished inside for same reason. The last pic is one of the happy residents. The cage is 4x2x2 ft. 3.bmp

I feed my dogs a lot of pork. They enjoy it and they are all fit and healthy. I get random lumps of meat and bone off my local butcher for the dogs. If i run out of rabbits i dont hesitate to give them some of the dogs munch and im sure they have had pork before. There all still happy and healthy. I dont see any reason for not feeding them on pork all the time. I prefer to give them rabbits but i wouldnt turn down free piglets!

As a Christian I was deeply offended by tonight's Top Gear where it was suggested that the the new 'Stig' was born in Israel. I would get one mate. Iv seen um on preloved for 60+, 30s a bargain! Iv got a 25% poley and shes mustard. If i could find a preloved ad a bit closer to home i would of already had another couple of jills. In fact i am looking for some so if anyone knows of any near southampton let me know! Lol!

Ferrets can and do kill each other but it is very rare. If you are worried though i would suggest you put them together at times when you are able to keep an eye on them. Any sign of a problem and split them up again. But no they should be fine. And your definately right to get your single one some company.

Rats mate, no doubt. Dont expect them to just jump willy nilly into a trap though. Rats have something called neophobia (a fear of new objects). It can take weeks for them to get used to a trap bein there before they go into it.

Ferreting at nights a good way to those warrens you cant in the daytime! Lol! A full moon is the best we can usually hope for. Snow is a good thing too. Or fog.

There are a number of possabilities. You said your 2 ferrets. Do you put them both to ground? On a small warren you shouldnt because they can trap a rabbit. A ferret behind and another in front of the rabbit guarantees a kill. As watchman said, you should leave the warren alone after netting up. Let things settle. The rabbits will of heard you upstairs and though to themselves "lets stay home for the time being shall we?"! Worst of all is a dog sticking its head down the hole as the rabbit bolts. My beagle x does that. He hears a rabbit thumping along the tube and runs in to soon. Th
