  1. make sure you have public liabilty insurance, you will get asked, its common place nowdays for everyone offering a service to have it, but as your charging for work, it needs to be proper buisness insurance, not something like SACS, as they only cover if work is free £30 a day is well too low, what would happen if you had everyone call you wanting clearance done, days off work, would £30 cover what your losing?, or are you not working, sometimes going in too low on prices, can loose you work, as it looks like a bodgit and leggit type affair
  2. firstly I'd suggest any ferreter out there to joing "the national ferret register" as anyone doing a seach for rabbit clearance gets there web page up, and your name and location would be on it, Ive been lucky in the past to get a few good permissions from my info being there anyway a death in the family put any ferreting trips on hold until after the funeral, bit down in the mouth over it, when I get another contact request from the ferret register, asking if I can help clear a few football pitches, and the guys number, on phoning it turns out its the head guy of...... wait for it

its not a case of jumping on young ones mate, we get quite a few new members in all sections wanting freebies, never to be seen or heard again, I have sent quite a bit of stuff out to those asking, never to recieve a thank you or anything, you gathered your information from chatting in the chat room, I got mine from reading the first post, and remembering an earlier post, simple as, prehaps had it been explained better in the first post, he would have recieved different replies
  4. err, no all non FAC rifles, can only put out a max 12ft lb, a springer can and will have the same power, you can sit shooting rats with a springer all day, a cartridge type rifle, if using the small bulbs, will give you maybe 15 consistant shots before dropping off, the larger canisters on the king rat catcher boasts 200 shots, tempreture can affect this though just looked at the link, wouldent touch it with a barge pole, trouble is, once you're shot a few woodies or rats in a barn, you'll want to try further shots, or bigger quarry, a mate of mine bought one of these, even after I tol
  5. well you wont be trying to snare them around your way then, will you

    HELP

public liability is the best permission gainer I know, if you join one of the many clubs SACS is a good one as it covers you for everything, then when you phone a golf course, you can quote that you have public liability, this tells them straight away your not some chav with a rifle wanting to shoot anything that moves, also arm yourself with some info, have you walked the golf course to see if they have problems with warrens, rabbits may well be coming from a neighbouring farm/field, rather than the golf course, being able to point out they have a problem with rabbits in a certain area, shows
  7. but why?, a deben one will rangefind from 35yds to around 600yds, cheap and simple, why pay more for something that does the same thing, what does a leica do, that a cheaper one dont
  8. Ill move this to the running dog section for you, as I cant see a RIMFIRE RIFLE in sight
  9. get a kania, much better, they will last forever, that one dont look like it'll last 5 minutes
  10. dont want to rock your boat, but make sure you can correctly identify between a rat and a water vole wont you
  11. apart from shooting them, do you have permission? if its common land, have you a valid reason to shoot
  12. I have a deben rangefinder, cost £130, fantastic bit of kit, simular in size to a monocular, hold to eye and look at object, you have a very small circle in centre of lens, push the button and up pops the range, can be set to either metres or yards can range find anything, from a 2" bit of plastic, to a bus or more, you get the picture
  13. I have the cheap deben one, cost around £130 although havent used it a lot lately, its there on the shelf should I need it, worth the money not used lately as have done more ferreting than shooting
  14. I have one of those will, if you paid £35 they saw you coming I'll offer you a purse net peg, and you pay the postage

there is a loop hole though, as I was caught a few years back, and theres sod all you or e bay can do I bought a lamp and battery, when it arrived, plug it together and the bulb blew, it was a 6volt lamp with a 12volt battery, got in touch with e bay, they told me to send back to seller, at my expense, which I did, he would not accept it from the carriers, meaning it got returned to sender, unless the seller accepts a return, e bay cannot take the money, as that is classed as theft on their part, if it looks to good to be true, it normally is

    Grommits

if you can get a twist out of the castration rings, I would have thought that better
  20. has to be the terriers, think about it, rifles you need to bait up with something that the rats will stop to eat, rather than grab and run yet a smoker and a few terriers your not waiting for the rats to come to you, your taking it to them
  21. yer iv got a few places in thurrock where iv got permission just wouldent mind some more if ya know what i mean lol so you'vre gone about this the wrong way, you yourself could offer another member a trip out to your permission, in the hope of getting a return invitation by them to theirs, its all about friendship and trust, but saying you have a few places, yet want more, without putting yourself out, dos'ent come across very good
  22. was a good post, until I saw how much respect you have for your quarry
  23. its not really a case of getting me in a good mood, but everyone knows how hard it is to get GOOD permission, so handing it out is probably rarer than rocking horse shit, the problem being, is that our permissions are got by us, handing them out to others can and do, only get us a bad name, the landowner would think we cant be bothered, or as has been noted by another member who will remain nameless, he took a new member to his local permission, only to find out a few weeks later, that the new member had paid return visits to the permission, using the permission holders name as a way of ge
