Rifle for foxing and roe
3175darren replied to mealiejimmy's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I know what you are saying Darren, and i agree to a certain extent,If meat damage is not a problem its ok.But what about a game dealer who insists on neck or head shots and penalises you for a damaged carcass?????I know that animal welfair comes first, but if i am in a high seat and set up for a shot i feel confident with a neck shot at a reasonable range, and the advantage is they drop on the spot.Just my opinion. Hi fella my comment is not critisism as such I too have taken neck shots but not very often, and I know game dealers can be funny, -

A neck shot is dodgy in my mind with a small caliber like a 223,I think I would go to a bigger load, then neck shots are not so much of a fine line,I have to carefull with that comment I know alot of people have strong veiws on this and this is only my opinion,I always go for engine room unless the situation dictates, -
mine have the 9 acre field at the back to roam freely and I dont get the shell quality without grit,I have always used grit it helps them grind the corn up in the crop for digestion,if your ground has had chickens on before or for a while, there may not be enough, its not expensive as such, and mine get though a bag a year, I feed chicken corn not layers pellets,I am not sure I think the pellets contain some grit, but not sure never use ematb Darren

I am wondering are they free range mate,if so how far do they wonder,?? are they laying outside under hedge, have they plenty of grit?I just put some point of lay pullets in with mine,I have 6 old ones and get four eggs every day, somtimes five the first of the new ones have just started to lay and for the last week I have had five a day, however the first day together two of the old ones laid under the edge outside, for the first time, this took a couple of days to rectify itself, new ones coming in can properly upset the balance,

I personally would go for 243 for fox and roe mate I know 223 is legal in scotland, but 243 is on top of its job for roe and fox fox you can load down to 60 grains for fox or up to 100 grain for roe although I always used 75 grain hollow point for fox and 85 grain soft point for roe, they are flat enough shooting for both at reasonably ranges, -
Love the pre warning, spot on MOLL one question what camera do you use,or are you one of those people that can take a good picture with anything, atb Darren

Hell of a dog mate,I have been around dogs most my life, and wanted a small whippet when I dropped on this little dog,I am not sure of the mix,I was told that the bitch was a wippet lurcher bred, from an austrailian cattle dog and the sire was a racing wippet, when I bought him I only spoke to the woman of the house, and wasnt sure, but right price was reached so deal struck, I have 6 dogs 4 are gun dogs, and apart from the control and deer pointing capabilities of my pointer, I really rate this dogs ability so much so that I might look for a suitable bitch, next yr I have tried to keep the discipli

Its so easy to make training mistakes!!
3175darren replied to stroller's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
We have all made similar mistakes mate,it is usually our own discipline that screws things up,but at least you know where it went wrong alot of people cant seem to spot that, which causes loads of problems,Dont kick yourself so hard over it,back to stop stage one,and move on 5 months is a good canvas to work with if no one elses problems to cope with, -
What a lovely buck, well done will you get them antlers mounted??
-
You can loose any working dog, some more prone to it than others, breed means nothing, truth is some we like more than others that wont protect them, get on and move on lifes too short to dwell on the past, but that wont stop you remembering it, good luck with the decission Darren

looks a feisty little bugger, good luck

Yes they should be made to pay all costs . dirty beeping scum bags What make the situation even worse is the fact the person that was accused cannot claim his costs against anyone. I would have thought that the RSPCA should be liable for the prosecution bill unless the CPS took the case over or the police agreed to use public money to pay for it. The courts do have power to order public found to be used. If thats right about not being able to claim expenses,Then the RSPCA or LACS could accuse any one on meager evidence,To impose financial issues,on idividuals that has to be injustice,

Go to a good keeper or working gun dog man,you will pay a good price check the guy out with people first, best pedigree wont guarentee the best working dog,and a lot of times if they arent young pups, you are buying somone elses problems, take your time, Rake aboot is wright, mine didnt cost more than £150 and a superb dog although he is 13 now, and still like a pup when the gun comes out the cupboard,if the dog is from good working lines and not inbred, and the kennels you get them from are in good order,it will boil down to how you bring the dog up,people make the mistake of going for the top

Charges dropped, why cant the lads put a complaint against wrongfull arrest, were they arrested ??? how did the evidence get past CPS,which would probably mean it was there private action, and in this case clearly the wrong action against innocent people, they should be reponsible for there actions wright or wrong, me and you would be held accountable, they seem to think they have god status, this kind of carry on is disgusting I hope the court b*****ked them silly,
