Getting mine a Dell, from Asda, 279. Quite good spec for the price, and bottem of line computer. Ok for a 10 year old.
-
Thanks. No I haven't tried yet, but I have managed to get a couple of old stocks, both of which are solid. Not sure what design I'm going to try, but something very simple to start with!!

Oman. What tools did you use after cutting out the heads. Was it rasps and knives, or special carving tools? Thank you.
-
All brilliant but I too like the first one best. Inspirational!

I'm also interested in this thread, but this is prescription only.

If you mean spun poly, then Agouti nets, is the place I use.

Yes ideal for almost everything, but you will never get the same image quality as in full light. Mine only go to 3200, but can be pushed to 6400, and they do me.
-
Really does depend on how low the light is, and what f stop and shutter speed you want to use. Trouble is at this time of year is that there is actually a lot less light than you think, as our eyes are so good at adapting to it. Also, the higher the ISO, the grainier the image will be, although that also depends on the quality, or size of the sensor. To answer your question though, 1600 should be ample for most winter photography.

gerfalcon.. Do you want to continue using this forum? Its a wonder If its full of people who you wish to rise above...why not head over to one of the upperclass stalking forums... OR maybe you could shut up being a complete pompous fuckwit and post something beneficial for everyone, instead of the drivel...excuse the French.. Ian he might but I don't ,In all honesty its not a place I want to be, having seen first hand and having to endure shite remarks from a certain individual . I bit my tongue long enough . Is always been my philosophy in life to help others , just as i was helpe

Totally agree Mike. I have just changed from a non adjustable focus scope to an adjustable one, mainly for the greater magnification, and at the moment I find having to adjust the focus is a pain I could do without, although the extra magnification is excellent. The point you raise about correct head position on the stock is also spot on. On the old S & B 3-12 x 50 with no parallax drum, I would use this out to 900m+ without any problem, and with the newer models fitted with parallax adjustment, the accuracy is no different, because of still placing the cheek in exactly the same positi

Nice ferreting ground, and some good pics.

If you can get a decent scope paralax free out to 300, like some of the S & B amongst others, then that would be the ideal for hunting with CF, however for close up work i.e. sub 50, they often dont focus close enough. So its what you prefer and need. I have recently bought a side focus scope for the hmr, which is great for close and distance work, but I would rather not have to adjust at all, especially when you have a fast critical shot to take, at an unexpected distance, and the side focus wheel is set at the wrong distance. For me imo, it is a little bit of horses for courses.

I personally think the mods have a tough job to do on here, and it probably takes some of the enjoyment out of the site for them. I dont think that they do a bad job of it either. Perhaps something the forum management could think about, is a button that anybody could hit, that would then make a thread invisible to them. Then if somebody didnt want to read a particular thread, and all the updates to that thread, they wouldnt have to! I have a sneaky suspicion though that not many people would hit that button though, just in case they missed out on something!

Some nice pics on there.

Massive Apology to Bond Guns and Buster

Well done mate. -
I dont feed at this time of year, unless after heavy snowfall, as there is still an abundance of natural food in supply, both berries/seed and insects. On the other hand, my dad feeds all the year around, and the birds never seem to stop coming.

Moon phases and how it effects stalking
tegater replied to Caprelous's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Totally agree Wilf. Apart from not using soap, aftershave, toothpaste before going on a stalk, I dont worry about clothing or sweat. Anything that is out of the ordinary, will stand out, in terms of scent, whether it belongs to human, animal or material. Get the wind right and hunt like an animal, (observe, listen move, observe listen move etc) and the stalk will be successful. Hind stalking on the open hill, by the way, is the4 best of the best imo, as they always retain their maternal instinct, and are always eyes, ears and nose!! -
Yep fair play mate. As I said I am not saying its wrong, and with foxes, I sometimes have to do the same where I live, as the fencelines are the only wiring points. When I was younger though as a kid, in Shropshire, we had plenty of open field runs where the wire was lethal, and to the extent of catching 3 bunnies a day, in the same wire, if you could check them enough. Its good seeing how others do it though. Thanks.
-
I still can't get used to wiring rabbits on fencelines. I was always brought up to wire them on open runs. I'm not saying its wrong, but there must be more chance of belly catching them on a fence, than in the open. I still catch loads in the open with the wire, and who knows, I may catch more on the fence. It just doesn't have the same appeal, to me.

minimum land for 22. LR Riffle
tegater replied to james.5385's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Very true. I know of a personal with less than an acre, who was having a problem with roe, in their landscaped garden. Fencing off was not feasible as it would have made their garden look like a POW camp. They were authorised to use .243, but with conditions. They could only shoot from an upstairs window of their house, and only between certain hours. Just goes to show, anything is possible if the conditions are there. -
Slows mine up when people quote a post with loads of photos in it, that then get duplicated each time, so you keep having to look at the same pics
