Starting Out Full Time Moling Advice
shropshire mole replied to tilimangro's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I also have some lawn signs and postcard a5 size from vistaprint, which I put out and about, which brings in a modest income, certainly pay for themselves. wording such as THE MOLE MAN is working here phone number website Try lots of things - as said before postcards on notice boards, telegraph posts, parish magazines, some will work well, others not so Keep trying -
probably did not make it clear, wasp nest was at end of a void, had to crawl into it. height to roof was 2 foot. unable to crawl to nest, so was lying on stomach and putting poles on to get near nest, so when all poles are on, very difficult to lift in confined space as the weight of poles bend. Hope that is a little clearer??

Been looking in the new killgerm catalogue about wasp nest applicators. Have for many years always used the trusty dust stick, last year had a really hard access job where I was lying down and the stick with all 4 poles horizontal just off the ground. it proved very difficult to raise the stick up enough, allowing for the heaviness of poles to bend and then hold with 1 hand and use hand pump. So looking at either the xl8 lance with DR5 duster or the new air raid 9 lance powered by co2 cartridges, but can also be used with hand/foot pump. There is a video at lancelabs to view. looks to

Starting Out Full Time Moling Advice
shropshire mole replied to tilimangro's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
If you have been doing this for 20+ years and are good at it, then do you really need advice?? Since you appear to be a successful entreprenuer in many fields, I am sure being a full time mole catcher will be a breeze Perhaps you could run a gardening or falconry business to supplement your income for two weeks whislt you really get established -
Starting Out Full Time Moling Advice

Recommendations from others is the best option. I charge per job or sometimes per visit, with farmers they like to know costs, so tend to charge per visit (depends on time to travel, amount of traps put out, profit, etc) but make sure you turn a profit each and every visit. As Phil said, be honest, reliable, smart and be able to talk to customers If I am in a new area, and see moles in a garden or field, I leave my calling card. Get quite a bit of extra work. If you have 2 or 3 jobs close by, then profit increases -
Dilemma - Need Advice

What I would do is.......................... oh just re read post, I`m not a professional so can not possibly comment -
You may be set in your ways, but occasionally something comes along that will make life easier. Putanges are great for public areas where trap detection may be an issue, or you open a run and find 3 tunnels, duffus in one, putange in the other. Sorted
-
A couple of years ago I was trapping moles in a field, had just made to cut into the run and smoothed and preparing the duffus. The mole appeared and continued walking through the open tunnel and disappeared again. Had no time to do anything other than be amazed. I put the trap in, but the mole knew something, the next time I checked the trap it had been backfilled. I now prepare trap first, then find run to put it in

Thanks TC Did see that one, but I thought (probably wrong) that the product was quite expensive, and this tin is cheap, so was just checking

Most wasp job can be treated from outside, if you can see where they are entering/exiting. A targeted puff of dust - job done -

Purchased some great tunnels from them, really well made This might be them now?? www.jcwildlife.co.uk -
maybe the mole was dropped off by a cat or there is a very old mole run, deeper than the plough could ever go, that used to run under fields hundreds of years ago, in the days when fields were quite small. These fields have long gone, roads been built, but the old mole runs still exist deep down. Could be an answer to how the mole gets to an area when there is no evidence around

Putanges - The Movie!
shropshire mole replied to Nicepix's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
No problem, your welcome to have the last word, on it ? ha ha,....its just my PERSONAL opinion (about mole damage). It can be hard enough graft, to get the 'results' you need to make a real difference, on the ground your on ?,..& if someone wants too make that effort for FREE, then more fool them,...lol Also, your "still" doing the owner/occupier of the land, a great favour, even offering to do the rabbits, or shoot problem vermin, for FREE !,....never mind any 'bartering', over it ? lol You really have to ask yourself, "whos really doing a favour for who, here ?" (im just tryin -
Putanges - The Movie!

But you work at something else full time and do Pest control for beer money as you have said on other threads. You are exactly the type that is the problem. You are an idiot. Read what I said "it would upset me if I worked full time in pest control", but I do not. its simple its competition. I also charge well and make a good profit. What is wrong with that? And yes I employ an accountant and a tax return each year, my waste is collected by an approved contractor. Does not matter what the business is, there will always be competition, you just have to try and make yourself "the bes -
He may be serious, but does he kill any moles, think I will stick with good ol traps

Defo would p*** you off when you rely on pest control for your living and others take money off you. Human nature is to try and save money. -

Putanges - The Movie!
shropshire mole replied to Nicepix's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
There has always been competition, maybe more these days, more associations. But unless the new breed of mole catcher puts the hours in, gain the experience needed they will not be around to long. . I generally rely on folk recommending me - I am only as good as my last mole caught There are I believe, enough moles for all. Saying that I have started to put flyers in letter boxes when I drive past and see mole tumps, get quite a bit of extra trade this way -
Happy Christmas And A Merry New Year

Bit late now for a happy christmas So have a safe, profitable & Happy New Year -
Overall it is a good forum and a lot can be learned, mainly from PM`s A certain mole catcher from south Wales has helped me loads regarding talpa/talpex traps and correct setting - I now catch quite a few with them. Happy Days

I can well relate to what your saying here, mate. Where i am (west Scotland), has got to be in contention, for being one of the worst parts in the UK, to be a mole catcher ! lol Due to the amount of continuous rainfall,...i now refuse to make any effort,in these conditions ? (as far as im concerned, customers & the moles, can wait,...) Can you send some of that rainfall this way please? The way things are going both 200 hectare lakes will be bone dry by the time the carp season starts. Would some powdered water help you Clive? Can send it over and you simply a
