Just wondering? Off to look at a beddy/whippet tomorrow. I know that there can be a problem with the bedlington terrier and copper toxicosis. Could the same disease pass to the puppies, as there is some beddy in both Dam + Sire??

Best to count the hair on each mole and divide by the combined weight, that will give you a good profit margin, according to the BMG -

Have got 2 of the bird box traps out at 2 different locations along with tunnel traps also from John. The tunnels always perform well, but as yet no catches in bird box? Maybe just to new and need weathering/squirrel smells before they will work well? -

Fineren Body Grip Trap

I would have thought the box is long enough, so that the squirrel is not seen when caught, and is fully contained. Have got 2 of the bird box squirrel traps - look good. Purchased from JC Wildlife @ £25 each better value than fourteenacre -
The drey was under the tiles and had been burrowed in between some kingspan insulation boards and fibreglass. The only access point found was on the other side of roof, so assuming the squirrels had to go into loft to access drey. No signs of squirrel damage in loft, no droppings, no insulation damaged. Unable to see exactly how squirrel would have gone in to the drey due to very confined space in that corner, but looked as if the squirrel had gone up and then under the tiles and then had burrowed down to make nest. it was not high up only about 4 or 5 tiles up, but would have needed

Mole Trapping Prices

I do like a fixed fee for most jobs - either on a per visit basis or complete job. Although there are exceptions when have charged £10 per mole, when this has suited the farmer. Domestic gardens I currently charge £90 with a 2 week guarantee, get quite a bit of repeat and recommendations from this set up. Fixed fee ensures payment no matter what, recently had a squirrel job in as loft, nothing caught over the 4 days with Kanias, no photo/video on camera. Squirrel had simply gone and not returned, but still got paid for my services. Being a member of any trade association does not guarantee -

Maybe only having 2 visits is due to the area you cover? As a part timer mole catcher, my area generally is no more than 30 miles, mostly much closer to home, so can do the 3rd visit, and fitted in with other things. -
I don`t, but have used the trapman.co.uk or fourteenacre both do good traps IMO

Is that a quad bike chain harrow on the back of bike? I have one but they are bloody heavy -
Have read some archived articles on the forum about Neil Bacon - some good some bad. Have tried to google him, to see if he still breeds beddy x but have been unable to locate him. Any ideas if he is still about?? atb

I don`t use them often, as Moxy said they are a bit fiddly, you need the trap and pliers to hand. But when I do, am pleased with the results Just wonder by forcing the prongs wider, that over time this actually will weaken the spring?

Do you know of any currently?

Well Done, sure the farmer is happy as well

I do at least 3 visits, IMO need that 3rd visit to ensure no more moles about, less chance of a call back -

I will put aside 30 pence for you, very reasonable repayment scheme, any good? Boy, am I generous or what. -
I had this one today, bad photo as it was against the light from the window, is it a queen? It was about 17mm long. TC Not the best picture, but looks like you can just make out some yellow/black horizontal strips?

I now have the few straglers here and there to catch, so getting these few will take more visits and, of course reduces the overall profit. Unlikely to ever get such circumstances again - generally we all know that moles tend to live along a fence line, under a tree or other damp patch. In these fields they were literally all over, all trying to get their own space -

I agree. That's what I do; fix a price and guarantee to leave domestic jobs mole free no matter how long it takes. If I think there are still moles to catch after my three planned visits I'll leave a few Putanges under grass clods to mop up the stragglers and check them weekly or whenever I'm passing. For farms it is a fixed fee and they trust me to take as many out as I possibly can in the three scheduled visits. We all know where we stand that way. All domestic properties pay the same fixed price and with a 2 week "no more mole hills" guarantee. Customers like this, its goo -

Charge more work less I like that idea, however if you have a few fields that have never seen a mole catcher and the only reason they are now using my services is that the new summer tenant for the grass keep wants rid of the moles first, then £10 per mole for 96 moles over 3 visits, in my book is worth getting out of the garden. This is the rare exception though!! -

Tweaking Traps (Mole Traps)
shropshire mole replied to Giro's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
its just personal choice if said trap is tweaked. Some folk will use traps straight out of the box, others like to fine tune the trap so the slightest touch by the mole and it fires. I have tried both methods and my catch rate seems about the same. I had some procter pest stop traps recently, they need a really hard push to fire, but they are catching just like the other traps. -
Thanks for your replies, I am not going to rush, just trying to find someone who has the right dog, and importantly breeding. If you hear of any good dogs from friends coming up, please pm me with details
