  2. Fantastic stuff mate, I have never won a prize draw but can imagine what it feels like
  3. Totally dissagre with you bud, I shot on a ground a while back that had been shot on and ferreted for years. Between 2 of us we had over 2,500 rabbits in 2 months all shot with air rifle. I am lucky to get 5 in an evening now. So i would say pest control is done regular by many with air rifles who care to put the time in. I love an evening out even if i dont shoot anything all the same. 2500 rabbits over 62 days between 2 people so 20 odd rabbits a day, every day for 2 months solid, wow the rabbits must have been very thick not to get wise to 2 shooters giving them such a bashing
  4. I have a hunch its all down to funding, or lack of it. The Welsh airgun team seem to make up the bulk of the Olympic squad under the GBR banner. It seems that funding from Sport UK is on a merit system and even if you are in a championship position it still doesnt guarantee that they will give you finding. So you have to pay for all your own incurred costs of attending selection events as well as championship events either in the UK or world wide. Its a monirity sport, with minimal televised coverage and as such doesnt generate much money, I think Biathalon gets much better fundi
  5. I had springers from boyhood, I went to the dark side or PCP last year ( note that precharged air rifles pre date spring powered air rifles by quiet a few years though ) My last springer was a HW80 probably the best spring powered rifle you can buy, solid and accurate, however I had a shoot with a friends PCP and was very tempted, it was lighter, was not 'hold sensitive' and seemed pin point accurate. So months down the line, how do I feel about PCP rifles? The same, no recoil, just as accurate but a lot more sterile, theres no recoil, no effort in adjusting your grip/hold on it and th
  6. Chimp, I only lamp over 600 acres or so of family owned farm land and the rabbits are just not there in those quantities yet, and after being wiped out with mixy just like many other areas of the UK (theres a thread about somewhere with mixy hotspots through the UK) which is great news, because I don't want to be out all the time clearing rabbits. I have another 2500 acres of permission land that I currently don't lamp and only shoot in the daytime, from my accounts and the odd picture you'll see the land is pretty open and not a lot of useful cover for getting the very twitchy and vig
  7. Nice write up mate and good pics too. I agree with all about shooting kits and if I have the choice not to, I will leave them, unfortunately all my permissions at the moment want me to remove all rabbits, regardless of their age or sex. My solution is to only shoot the odd kit as proof to the farmers that Im actually doing something, the rest of them are left alone to grow older.
  8. So I was out again yesterday with 3 things on my mind: 1/Retrieve the turret cap off my Bushnell scope after I left it on a fence post the other day. 2/ Zero my new scope - Hawke SR12 6-18x44, I saw this on fleabay the other day for £79.99 and thought what a bargain! 3/Sort out the crows again on my 'nemesis' permission. Well the rain cleared on the coastal side of the mountains about 11.30, but the winds will still pretty gusty, the forecast for the mountain tops was 60-70mph, so not a great day in the hills I planned on the main weather front holding up on the windward
  9. Yea Archie, I know where the line comes from, but what has it got to do with the post? Nothing? I have read the post 4 times and I still dont see anything in it with reference to any act or scenes from dirty harry, no just a pillock in dpm killing a kit a close distance was all i got from the post. Mike, are you just posting stuff like this so you can hit 1000 posts since joining in January this year and so far have earned the 'Avatar only' title of 'extreme hunter' - I just dont get it, its almost like there are 2 people posting under your name, one posts some useful stuff, the other post
  10. HW80 , Patriots were a good bit of kit too but much harsher on recoil than the HW80. Im not 100% but I think Pianoman has a HW80 on ticket, just ask him if doesnt see your question. EDIT, I know you mentioned PCP rifles, however Plus you might be better putting this post in the shotguns/rimfire section as those with FAC may also have air rifles too? As most the lads in the air gun section dont have FAC so wouldnt be able to comment accurately.
  11. A nice account mate, and nice to hear the land is coming alive. Have a point
  12. You pair of big blouses! for kits sake let it go lads its nothing but wasted and negative energy. Si you have been here since 2006 and Bill since 2009, you are both experienced shooters with a wealth of 'knowledge' to share. However 'knowledge and 'opinions' rarely match and this kind of tryst happens. Lets just put this to rest now, just meet in the middle of the bridge lads and say hello, there are never needs for appologies when opinions are shown. So no more Victor Meldrew from you both. Let it go...please. Mark
  13. Im lost on this one, where is the bit about 'does it fire 5 or does it fire 6'
  14. Hello and welcome dude H&N FTT all the way. EDIT never had a 90, but had an for a long time.
  15. Hey up mate, fantastic I lav it, what was in your rolly (dont have a sense of humour failure on me though) cracking stuff Stubby, its like pest controller with big gun meets cheech & chong IM off for some munchies!
  16. Very nice write up and a cracking bit of working land to shoot over, good shooting lads, I loved the bit about 'rabbits holes could make a horse lame' (yes I know this can happen)But I can just imagine you both laying that one on them like a good dollop of jam on bread, I bet they shat themselves at the thought of a horses foot in a hole love it Mark Wurz I was going to suggest me buying one of the new X3 and then selling my Twink MK2 cheap to you mate, then realised you allready have one
  17. []=Shotgun&Filter[NewMechanism][]=Over%20and%20Under&Filter[Calibre][]=12%20gauge&Filter[Make][]=Beretta"]Guntrader-berreta- Seems to be loads of them at fair prices. Its worth what its worth to you?
  18. Peter, Thats a very wise thing you have decided to do in choosing a rimfire in .22 when applying for a firearms certificate. Im not sure about you applying for a .223 in a just a few months after though. Learn how to shoot with your rimfire and more importantly learn about when not to take a shot. Always think to yourself 'what happens to the bullet if it misses its target?' Its safe shooting that needs to be learnt, guns are easy to use, stick bullets in and pull trigger. As for your questions about makes and distances, any .22 rimfire is going to be good for rabbits up to
  19. Cheers to you all for your comments lads and thanks for the slag point Bill Well the phone call came this morning, the landowner is more than happy for me to come over and clear the rookery with the air rifle, as I suggested, basically its all so close to a road and shotgun may get me a spot of bother (do gooders driving past seeing man with gun by road etc) plus he has 3 Weimaraners that he doesn't want spooking by the shotgun going off on rapid fire! So tomorrow morning its off to have some static shooting and clear as many as possible
  20. Been using Max Game 36gms AAA with full choke at close range.
  21. No Replies mate I wonder why? Completely the wrong section, put your post here: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/forum/91-wanted-section/
  22. Good pic of tape worm sack mate and good shooting all round. Fair play on all the elbow grease you have put in to the stock as well, it cant have been easy getting all that spray coat off! Its been too wet and windy to get out here today so nice to see you managed to get out and have a bit of a mooch about.
  23. Moxy, Yes, I put my hands up, 70m stretching it with a scope in my initial post,(scope was Bushnell trophy 3-9x40) with the Hawke 6-18x44 scope on,the combination was at its limit at 20m, I couldnt see much nor could I see the reticle untill around 15m. Amber filter or no filter with this scope and light combination.
