  1. Search the forums mate: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/188239-pulsar-challenger-gs-1x-20 Just realised, this was your original topic, werent any of the scopes on the list any good then
  2. Jake, thats a shame mate, keep hold of your license for the time being, you just dont know how the future will pan out. let it run to expiry date. As for your gun, well if you sure you dont want it then selling it is probably the best option, especially if your not sure about where you will be living. I think I know the shoot your on about, and yes its a shame, but as I have said before, there are plenty of other places to shoot round by you. All the best and throw away your SGC, a lot of people work very hard for us to keep our right to shoot.
  3. Blackisler, many thanks for posting this up Redeyejedi, the vid footage was at 70yds and the other picture was at 100yds. Looks very useable indeed, off to ebay to get cheap handycam with nightshot!
  4. And that is why I thought I would add it to this thread,as weight of projectile verus speed is important. You get to a point where weight of projectile versus initial speed of launch and momentum hits the law of a diminishing return. edit, yup the energy does drop off quickly, I was just very very surprised at just how quickly though
  5. Im sure someone will come along and know all the ballistic data, me I cant be bothered to get into long range penetration tests of different shotgun shell loads, I know that a round ball loses speed and energy very quickly I just didnt think it was that much at 70yds with AAA and 3/4 choke, I would have thought the pellets were still travelling with enough speed and momentum to penetrate the plastic tub.
  6. This is a little something I found interesting and also it opened my eyes a bit: When I was out a few weeks ago, I was plinking at an empty plastic sheep food tub at 70yds with my .22 AA s410 with 11.7ftlbs. So a 16grn .22 lead pellet travelling at 569 feet per second hits the plastic tub, enters and exits the other side from 70yds. Nothing surprising there? So out comes the shotgun, 12g loaded with Eley high flyers 30grm of No 6 - shot from the same position, 70yds away with 1/2 choke - result? Well not what I would have thought for a load travelling at around 1400ftps - there
  7. Glad you enjoyed the read, thought it was about time I posted, Thanks for SP Simon and thanks for your thoughts Davey. Basically the roosts are not on this 550 acres! There is another farm about 2km away with a dense plot of trees and this is where I can hear all the crow chatter and bickering from, I have walked all over my permission and not found one roost. This is what the ground cover is typically like, this is just a small section, but it all pretty much the same: As you say Davey sitting in wait is the only way to go, I have baited these buggers with pheasant, rabbit a
  8. Well I got up nice and early this morning, fired out a few emails, had breakfast and put the gunbs in the car and headed over to permission number 2, 520 acres of rolling, very open ground with minimal tree cover. I bumped in to the farmer and had a quick chat about the crows and the newborn lambs, he mentioned hed just put one in a ditch that was killed by the crows early this morning. On went the muck boots and then the job of covering as much of my skin as possible, as all the birds roiund this way get spooked by anything at all, even a car driving down a country lane will see the c
  9. Blackisler, Im impressed with that very much mate I for one would be very interested in seeing some pics of your diy set up as thats pretty damn good Start a new thread in the optics and NV section mate.
  10. :clapping: get it off your chest mate. Im off for a shoot.
  11. your mad matey but who owns a different rifle and is a wanker.............to be continued lol atb steve Could be those who shoot C02? Or may be not
  12. Here you go mate, links on here http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/194989-led-lenser-p7-holsterfilter-kit/
  13. Steve, if you change the post title to: Whos the man, whos the boy and whos the wanker Ill gladly vote
  14. Completely agree Eddie, I have been using my P7 for the best part of a year, in all weathers and only changed the batteries a few days ago, even though they were still very useable. Its great for lamping and simply stuns the close range rabbits, Only gripe I have is you do need to put a bit of pressure on the push pad.
  15. Have you used this filter on a Tiablo or orther LED based torch? I ask because the physics dont work out for the led unit in the P7, it uses an LED from Philips and the peak output or 100% is around 420nm, so in the visible IR range, however when you look at the graph it drops very sharply to less than 17% at 740nm, still just visible IR, but once you get to 750nm and above the output drops to less than 5%, So how can an 850nm true IR filter be any good on a torch with less than 10 lumens of power at that wavelength? Am I missing something?
  16. Same over here, rabbits starting to pop up all over the place, they wont be a problem to deal with, its the bloody crows Im struggling with at the moment, time to put some leg work in and get round the roosts with the SG.
  17. Go for it, Im sure youll have a great day out with your new rifle, hope the weather is good for you too walks off muttering about cheap cider and the fact that BSA would never had made such a cult bike then named it after some apples.....
  18. Cheers mate, a new friend :)

  19. Hi all, After chatting with other members about IR filters and their suitability for use with CREE type lights I though I would put a quick post about 3 things: There is no point putting any kind of IR filter on any of the high output CREE led type lights as the visible light emmitted tends to be focused in a very narrow wavelength of the visible spectrum at 420nm. Near Infra red is from around 400nm to 1400nm and typically 740 - 780nm is where the visibility drops off. The lumen output at 740nm is around 10% of the stated lumen, so for say the LED Lenser P7 at 200 lumen that measn less
  20. Mike I was never a keen watcher of Boon, so I couldnt possibly comment, now stop skirting round the issue and rename your gun White Lightning
  21. Gravel, youll never guess what I got the other day? the LED Lenser P7 holster with lens kit... I bought it basically as it came with a red filter, I havent had chance to try it outside yet, but I can comment that it turns the light a bit of apink colour and it will definately reduce its range outside. After much digging about I found the make and model of the LED used in the Lenser P7 along with its wavelength output. Basically speaking at 200 lumens of power its light peaks in the visible range of 440nm, however as you get up to the near infra red spectrum where IR on cameras work the
  22. Classic Moley, you are so excited you are hijacking other people threads
  23. Yea but Neil Morrisey was from Stafford at least thats closer to Brum than Michael Elphic who was from Sussex & couldnt do a brummy accent To show honest regards for all Brummies you should re-christen your rifle 'White-Lightning' as atleast it was made in Brum
  24. All I can say is dont shoot the messenger, you guys have had your FAC for a while, yes? Well Im just reporting what NWP have been doing with regards to this particular question, I would also think that once you have a particular fox condition on your license for smaller CF calibres, then its going to be a bit hard for them to take it off, not so with new applicants though. I completely agree what the hell is the actual ballistic difference between .222 and .223, negligble. It just seems that the original guidance on calibre and use of has changed a lot over the years as when you look a
  25. Wow mate, what a mission! I have done the same thing before, gone to buy something and stacked it all up at B&Q with a few people waiting behind me, I reached in to my jeans to find a lack of wallet
