  1. Sorry Gaz, not having a go at you, but that shows the danger of spell checker. There are two mistakes there that spellcheck wouldn't find, but they ruin what is otherwise a good letter. First error is in this line:- Aloud should read allowed. The second error is in this line:- which should read brother in law. I know it sounds picky, but it's the sort of thing that a pernickety club secretary might well turn round and use as a reason to ignore the request! I would always approach the head green keeper first off. Sling some decent clothes on, at least a clean t
  2. Not really worth bothering. All you're likely to do is damage it, as they're aq pig to get to pieces, and there's no simple way to increase the power. Mine runs a reliable 11.5 to 11.8, that's factory set. Yours should be similar. Push it any more and it becomes FAC!
  3. The serial number will tell you when it was manufactured, but not how long it's been sitting in stock at a distributor/gun shop. They can sit around for a fair while between manufacturing and selling, so that won't tell you much. If you're worried, get him to tell you who the RFD was that he got it from. They will have records of the sale, and should be able to tell you all about the guns history.
  4. When I was paper punching, every time I used it. I tried the "not cleaning" technique and found that my groupings got progressively worse the more rounds down the tube since cleaning. When I finally get my .22 for hunting, I'll do the same.
  5. Seems like there are a fair few of us round these parts. Davy, if you're ever over the Hungerford sort of area give me a bell, might be able to dig out a cup of tea or two!
  6. Yeah, Bloemfontein is 170km from me. About a 90min drive. Roger! Ah don't worry, they've migrated north now.
  7. Aye they tend to be like buses. Nothing for ages, and then suddenly three or four come along all at once. Do a good job with the ones you've got, and more will almost certainly come your way as the owners tell their friends about this great bloke that's really helped to sort out their (rabbit/fox/crow/pigeon/insert pest species here) problem! Keep up the good work!
  8. That wouldn't be a problem for you though fella would it! Sorry, couldn't resist! And yes, black insulating tape is what I've always used. Good for keeping muck out, and not too much of a disaster if you forget to remove it, though obviously not advisable!
  9. Hey, Nice shooting fella! You anywhere near Bleumfontain by any chance? Got a few people in need of a little "encouragement"! (Here's a hint, they go round in packs of 11 and can't kick a football for shit!
  10. Si. I use the RWS Super Hollow Point in all my rifles, and find them a really good pellet, and accurate out past 30 metres in all of my rifles. At my primary zero, 25 yards, I shoot one hole groups with both my PCP and my ancient Theoben Scirocco gas ram! They're a decent weight too, and kill reliably and quickly at all sensible airgun ranges. I don't see much benefit from a .25 at non-FAC powers, indeed even FAC rated air rifles really don't give much benefit, certainly nothing that can't be done as safely, and more efficiently with a .22lr!
  11. That was partly my thinking too J. A bit like the Sunday trading regulations. It's illegal to sell things like garden furniture, so you got people selling things that it was legal to sell, like food, for ridiculous prices, and then "giving away" the expensive furniture!
  12. But if you oil the barrel before you put it away, don't forget to pull a few patches through before you use it next, until they come out oil free. Don't want to be firing through an oily tube, can cause all sorts of nasty hydraulic effects.
  13. Well, the how is irrelevant, as he seems to have called it correctly. As for the dog fox, it might have had nothing to do with the cubs, but it was obviously around.
  14. Mackay and Jeppi, get a frigging room! If the bloke wants to put up pics that's his prerogative. If you disagree then that's fine, but resorting to personal insults is childish at best! You'll be telling us next how it's wrong to shoot Hares (but fine to shoot rabits) and other such nonsensical drivel!
  15. I can't see any reason why not. As long as you are legally entitled to hold the weapon, there's no reason why anyone shouldn't be able to gift you a weapon. Mr Plod doesn't have to know how you acquired it, as long as it's from a legal source and the transfer is done legally! At least that's the way I'd read it. The law shouldn't be able to dictate how the RFD disposes of his stock, as long as it's to someone entitled to hold the weapon in question. It'd be like saying that a supermarket couldn't offer beans on 2 for 1! Course I could be wrong, but if it's illegal then the law is stup
  16. I've got a combro, but because it straps on to the end of the barrel, I'd not be very happy strapping it to the end of a .243, reckon the muzzle flash would melt it in no time! Brilliant tool for air rifles though! As for the others, thanks for the advice, I'll give them a look!
  17. This from the man who decided to hijack the thread to discuss which game fair he was going to, because that's a: interesting to the general membership and b: relevant to the thread subject! (In case you missed it, that was sarcasm!) Mate, that's what the PM button is for! Anyway, getting back on thread... I reckon dig a 6 foot pit, with a load of sharpened sticks in the bottom. Carefully cover in foliage, and lay a dead chicken over the top. Now when mr Charlie comes along and goes to help himself to free dinner, he deals with himself! Of course you COULD just wait up with
  18. Impossible to say. It all depends on the report that your doc gives them. Might be worth approaching the BASC firearms team, and possibly your doc too, to see what he has to say. I don't know what individual firearms teams have as criteria, but I don't think legally they can just say "you've suffered from depression so you can't have a shotgun" it's got to be assessed on a case by case basis. Good luck fella. The FEO's are there to help you out, so find out who your local one is and have a chat!
  19. Chimp, been overdoing the commiserations?

  20. Sheesh, the deer in your parts are cleverer than round here. They haven't worked out how to open a can here yet!
  21. I use the 'Shoot N See' 'stick-on' target spots, I buy mine in America as I am over there quite a lot, but you can get them here, excellent and fairly cheap. Try them! Agree totally, they're great! You can actually see where you've shot! And though they're not cheap per pack, you get a lot of targets in a patch. Also the black dots are great for checking the zero.
  22. Maybe everyone's out shooting and enjoying the lovely weather?
