  1. Alright fella. Seems a few people are having problems with these rifles. Is yours still in warranty? If you've not had it long then I'd take it back to the seller first. At least he'll be able to chrono it and tell you how it's running. Is it definitely up to pressure? If you've had it a while it's still worth taking it along to get chrono'd. It might need a good service. If it's been sat for a while, there's the possibility that on or more O rings have perished and are leaking. That's a job for someone with the right tools and good knowledge. Hope you get it sorted, not
  2. Thanks for the link Charley. I emailed a while back. I changed the wording very slightly, as I live near Hungerford and many of the shooting community round here remember the events of 20 years ago. The wording of my email is below. I am a constituent and participate in shooting sports. The murders in Cumbria have shocked and saddened me and all my shooting friends. Living close to Hungerford, several of my friends were taken back to the time of Michael Ryan, over 20 years ago. I am concerned that the consequences of what happened in Whitehaven may result in legislative damage to
  3. I think there are only a couple of dates that are wrong. One day I'll sit down with the questions and make out an answer sheet.
  4. Nice shooting mate. As for the heart shot, I always go for that on small vermin and birds. Head shots are just too easy to injure them without killing, whereas a shot in the chest invariably ends up with a swift death. Only exception is bunnies, as their chests can offer a bit of a hard target for airguns. The thing with most small animals is they move their heads around too much for the headshot to be comfortable. Bunnies will tend to keep their head in one position long enough to give a reasonable chance at a shot. Maggies, and all the corvids are tough targets, pretty wily budgies!
  5. Aye. .223 REM is the calibre and case type, The Remington 700 is an action.
  6. That's interesting. Who is your police force fella? I have the DSC1, but the FEO says that they might still want someone to mentor me for a while, and the guy from Wilts who did the land check said that they hardly take notice of the DSC1 at all, and want all new apps for deer to be mentored! :S WTF is the point of having a qualification, and then ignoring it? I know that each constabulary can set their own conditions and rules within the provisions of the law, but if one place takes DSC1 into account but another doesn't, I think there could be an argument there! Anyway, congrats fella
  7. Short gun, big mod on the end, the colour is the same. I can't see from that that it's got a mag, nor indeed that it isn't break barrel! Just at a quick glance, in that pic, it bears a passing resemblance!
  8. Mate, don't let him f##k you around! Under the Sale of Goods act, anything he sells must be three things. Firstly, it should be substantially as described. So if he says new and it's been used that's a breach and you can demand your money back, or a replacement to the original description. Secondly, it should be of reasonable quality. So it should last for a reasonable amount of time without breaking, and should work with any accessories supplied with it. Thirdly it should be fit for purpose. This would be where you get him. If you can't put pellets where you want, with a mode
  9. Spotted an ad in "The Field" for these pellets today. I've used the Napier lube before on accupels and got good performance. I was wondering if anyone has tried these pellets? What are they like for performance and accuracy? Are they consistent? I've been using RWS Super H points recently, and they give me single hole groups at 25 yards. Any replacement would have to replicate that! The Napier pellets are marginally more expensive, but if they shoot well then that's not an issue. So any views on them either way before I buy a tin?
  10. Well, if bipods are cheating, and the bipod is yours, then quite obviously it's you should be punished for cheating. Doesn't matter whos rifle the bipod ends up on!
  11. If it works, might be worth going back in and putting a tiny dot of loctite on each screw, stop them going slack again in the future! Good call TTT!
  12. I'm guessing the Win .234 on the list should read .243? Ric, get thee behind me! I'm first in the queue! Surprised they're not chambering it for anything big, like .50, though it seems most mil snipers are moving towards the Lap .338 these days for the sniper role. Tasty bit of kit, I like!
  13. Plenty of good meat there fella. That gun looks neat, what make is it? Looks just like a BSA Lightning! On the question of bunnies and meat, does anyone know roughly what bunnies are selling for? Got a local butcher who wants some, but I don't know what price to charge him. They'll be going skinnd and gutted, and headshots so no pellets in the meat. Anyone got a clue?
  14. Turned up at work this morning, to be told by the boss that the FEO was coming over at 11 to check out the ground. That's quick seeing as it's a different force to where I live. Anyway, a very nice officer from Wiltshire turned up and we had a nice wander round the ground. He asked me a few questions, and was impressed that I managed to show him some deer, what can I say, the place is jumping with them! We agreed on the safe sight lines, and that a few high seats will improve the shootability. The end result is he's ok'd it for all full-bore rifles, result! So just have to wait fo
  15. That's a nice piece of kit, very nice grouping. You chrono'd her to see what she's putting out? How much did she roll out at (being nosy now ) I've never even heard of a 510 before, and I thought I was up to date on most things air-rifle! haha
  16. Under UK consumer law, your contract is with the person that you bought the ammunition off, not the manufacturer. Therefore you should ALWAYS go to the dealer first, and they should deal with the issues. If they try to fob you off by telling you to contact the manufacturer, don't have any of it. I've not heard of .22's doing this, and certainly never experienced it. If they can make .22 reliably, why can they not make .17? Strange!
  17. The turrets are the sticky up bits that you use to adjust the POA (point of aim). Yes, they may be an improvement on the Hawke, but for the same money you can get a far better second hand scope which will be another level of improvement.
  18. "That is one construction of the law" Suggesting that, in his opinion, the law is somewhat ambiguous on the point. And then there's the argument that pits the INTENT of a law with the LETTER of the law. Unless there is precedent to clarify the situation it's rather a gray area.
  19. What Stevie says. The insurance is included in the membership cost. Sounds a lot but you get a fair bit for your money imho.
  20. <best Kenneth Williams voice> oooh errr missus!
  21. Some people have all the luck! ;-) I'm starting off with 60ish acres, but have airgun permission over several hundred (not sure the exact total but I reckon it's getting on for 4 figures) on the farm over the road from my house. I'm hoping that if I can prove Im safe and responsible, and do a good job, further priveleges will be forthcoming!
  22. haha, you're probably not too far off the truth. I bet there's more than the odd carrot or lettuce gets fed to them!
  23. See, the HW95 is good, but I'd personally go for a Lightning converted to a gas ram. You can pick the rams up for £30 or so quid, and it's a 10 minute job to fit it and gives you a totally different gun. Nice and light, easy to handle, very "pointy", pretty quiet, especially with the gas ram, and perfectly capable of taking bunnies at any sensible airgun range. Also you can get a good Lightning, and do the conversion, and put a decent scope on top for much less than a second hand 95.
