See, the HW95 is good, but I'd personally go for a Lightning converted to a gas ram. You can pick the rams up for £30 or so quid, and it's a 10 minute job to fit it and gives you a totally different gun. Nice and light, easy to handle, very "pointy", pretty quiet, especially with the gas ram, and perfectly capable of taking bunnies at any sensible airgun range. Also you can get a good Lightning, and do the conversion, and put a decent scope on top for much less than a second hand 95.

any air pistols
matt_hooks replied to george atkins ga's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I have a Webley Tempest, still with it's original packaging, in .22. Shoots well and is great for plinking. Also have a .177 CO2 capsule powered, on a 1911 frame. This is in a hard case, complete with the original adjusting tool and a rotary magazine. Also have a .177 target pistol, which isn't working at the moment but I think I know what needs doing to fix it. Feel free to make me an offer for any of the above! -

I'm pretty sure they're not. I seem to remember the magnums were much heavier! -

11.6 from a ratty, now that's impressive! -
Ah Donington, they do the DMQ literature too, well put together stuff!

There's no need to shout Wire!

See I don't think there's any animals in North America that needs bazookas that big! And the RPG is quite big too!

Give her a rifle, she'll probably outshoot all of us!

That's the way to do it. Get in there and do a good job, and people will pass on your details when people are looking for someone reliable and safe to do some shooting. If you need any help let me know fella!

I was thinking more of around the 15th, when we're playing host to a certain American (and possibly an Italian too, though not sure yet. If so I might have to take him out shooting! )

You should be fine on the train. Just bring your charging adaptor down, don't bother lugging the bottle too. I think you lot are coming down mid July anyway aren't you? With a bit of luck I might have my FAC by then!

Haha I'm an idiot. Was sitting there thinking "I recognise that rifle" but didn't look at the user name. Seems they're a little further on up there than down here, I'm still shooting loads of heavily pregnant does. Got another one today. Not a bad deal, one shot and 7 fewer bunnies! I spoke to Andy today Alan, he okayed shooting on the rest of the farm. Just gotta work out where the rest of the farm is now, it's about 2000 acres or something silly! Wandered up to the top of the rape field by the railway line, it goes on forever and a day! You'll have to bring her down and we can g

Just a silly suggestion, but have you checked that the mount screws are still tight? I've seen similar faults as you describe because of a loose mounting screw. Hi, Matt. Yeah, I've gone through all the usual stuff. It's deffo a fault with the scope. Cheers. Aye. Not wishing to teach you to suck eggs, just always have to remind myself to check the basics before I get overly complicated. It's amazing how often a quick "is it plugged in?" gets a result!

Aye, Opticron are good bins. If I had that sort of money I'd go for a pair with built in rangefinder. Used to be able to judge distances pretty well, but it seems that is one of th abilities that has been damaged by two lots of open heart surgery!

Moderators ,, A law query
matt_hooks replied to Rake aboot's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Jobs a goodun! Wish I could pick up a few bargains like that! -
The only daft question is the one that you don't ask fella! If you've applied for a calibre that the land is already cleared for, then it won't need checking again. Sounds like you're doing ok with yours, prolly get it back before I get mine! When did you apply? I checked, and I posted the forms and photo's off to el plod over 2 months ago now!

Moderators ,, A law query
matt_hooks replied to Rake aboot's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
What of the case where a mod that is suitable for fitting to a section 1 firearm is held for use on a sub 12 ftlb air rifle? It is made for fitting to a section 1, but as there is no intention to fit it, I would suggest that it falls outside the regulations. As for mods in calibres which have no corresponding air rifle use, I would agree that a moderator is a firearm, as you couldn't claim it's for use on anything other than a rifle chambered for the calibre the mod is suited to. Of course if you do not own a rifle chambered in that calibre, then you can't put a mod on to a rifle, so a -
If 24 bunnies is a poor session, I'd hate to have to carry the game bag from a good session! Is that the .22 or the .17 you've used? I could probably take 10 or 15 every outing on my nearest permission, if I had the range, but a 12ft/lb air rifle requires getting close which ain't easy on the ground here! Big wide open, close cropped meadow land! Very nice shooting mate, should keep you well fed for a while.

Was going to say Bushwear. Looks like mixed reports, but I've found them nothing but helpful. Not the cheapest gear in the world, but if there's a problem they'll bend over backwards to sort it out for you! Just don't get the SwedTeam realtree camo trousers, they're rubbish! I had 3 pairs, and each one the lining and waterproof membrane completely disintegrated around the crotch area after a few days of use on the hill. They were good at replacing them, and eventually gave me a decent pair of Harkila trousers at no extra cost.

Catapults are great for short range stuff, as long as you've put the time in to make sure you can get a first shot kill, or at least stun that allows a quick follow up and dispatch. A good catapult (like the black widow, diablo etc., magic names when I was a kid!) will give you speed somewhere around that of an air rifle, but with a much higher weight (and hence a much higher energy!). The Black Widow runs out at about 200 fps with standard bands and an 8mm steel ball, giving a decent amount of energy, and as the weight is relatively high the downrange energy delivery is good.

Depends. Are you looking at new or s/h? The supersport is a venerable design, many a youngster has cut their teeth on them. Nice guns to shoot! The airsporter is I believe based on the same design. The Vulcan is pretty popular too. The Vulcan, I believe, is out of production and has been for some time, so look for the usual signs of age. A saggy, twangy spring, lots of noise on firing, trigger issues (very heavy, or very light, or creeps a lot). Also look at stock condition and barrel condition. None of these things is difficult or expensive to sort, but will take a little time and effort,

I've posted on here about a few misses, so I thought I'd have a look at everything and see what was going on. I suspected myself, but I think I've proved that wrong! Set up my target at my usual 25 yard zero, slipped a couple of .22 BSA Interceptors into the old girl and went for a group. Following is the result, ignore the writing on the target, I was planning on doing some comparative tests on different pellets, but the group was so shocking I changed the plan. Group the first! That's more than 2 inches, something's not right there. I wonder if the pellets are at fault?

The surface that the rifle rests on affects the accuracy. A different rest will cause different harmonics in the rifla and can cause a significant shift in POI. That's why most people rest the rifle on their hand, as you can make the rest fairly constant.
