  1. Rabbit slayer, the pheasant is no surprise, they're bigger and all together a tougher prospect, hence why they're not on the legal quarry list for air rifle in the uk!
  2. Just a few drops of oil on a clean rag should get rid of light rusting. If it's a bit tough for that, I use a bit of scrunched up aluminium foil. It takes off rust but doesn't touch the metal underneath, something to do with the relative hardheaded of aluminium, gun steel and rust. Also works a dream for rusty chrome parts!
  3. I might be interested in the range finder if you decide you need to sell it. Shame I'm not nearer, I'd come and help with the car work, also a mechanic (though my speciality is planes, especially aero engines but I can do cars too!)
  4. I've been thinking of buying a load if tins of pellets and making up "trial packs" for people, so when they buy a new rifle they can buy maybe 20 of a variety of pellets and try them out to see which performs best. Would anyone be willing to buy a pack? I reckon maybe offer about 10 different pellets, £2 per type. Works out at a lot per pellet, but cheaper than buying a whole tin, and you can try several. Anyone interested? I'd need to know I could sell a few before I laid out on the pellets! Maybe dealers could offer them with a new rifle too?
  5. Depending on what the sight is, that might be a wee bit in the strong side for a private sale. Chrono'd a few, they tend to be around the 11ft-lb mark, perfectly capable for any legal quarry! See if you can knock about £20 to £30 off the price and you'll have a decent gin for the money!
  6. Brass does degrade, if you let it sit in damp ground. I've a couple of rounds from an aircraft crash that I helped on a dig of (proper archaelogical time team style dig but without the wierdy beardy one, or the amusing dwarf) and they are well rotted, they look ok from a distance, but up close they're paper thin, certainly wouldn't want to fire them!
  7. I thought it looked dear at first, til I had a hunt round and found it's actually a pretty good price! You could paint the path home from the pub, then when you've had a few too many and can't find your way home, just flip on your handy uv torch, and find your way straight back, to the pub!
  8. Shay, could you pm me that permission slip please mate, I'm never sure how to word them! Cheers!
  9. Indeed. Just goes to show how easy it is for someone to avoid capture, even in a fairly small area, if they have half a clue what they're doing! What they need to do is get a few of the people who are E & E and search experts in, 22 should be able to find him in a couple of hours! The way he's outgunned, it's not exactly sporting! Hope they catch him before he hurts anyone else!
  10. British police are somewhat more circumspect. De Menez only got 11 rounds!
  11. "copper tipped bullets" F#####g useless f#####g pointless f#####g ignorant f######g journalists!
  12. No worries Steven. Have a look at other people's side bars, you won't see anyone elses warn status!
  13. No-one but you and the mods can see your warn status mate! As for why it's there, obviously you've done something wrong. Have you been using text speak or something? Wouldn't worry too much about it, as I said, only you can see it! Have you actually got anything in the bar, or is it just blank? I have it too, but there's nothing showing in it (yet anyway! )
  14. Might be 26000 acres, but it's only for 70 deer pa! That works out at a fairly costly £130 a head, before any costs for fuel, transport etc. You'd need to be selling the stalking at a strong price to make any money out of it! It can't be a done deal, the government aren't allowed to work like that. If someone came and offered more money, provided they could show the capability, then the FCS would have to award them the contract!
  15. Yeah, the midges can be a royal pain. There's a story about the Rum midges actually killing a man! Canna shouldn't be too bad though, as it's flat and fairly windy. We used to half joke about the Rum midges that they were a separate species, some wierd cross breeding, half midge and half white tailed sea eagle. Have to watch out or them, they have learnt on Rum to follow people with guns, as they often get a free feed from the gralloch! Reckon Sanday is probably better for shooting bunnies, that slope down by the school looks like a favourite! If I have the money I might well be u
  16. That looks interesting. If it's like the normal water based UV's, you can thin it down loads and still get the UV flourescence effect.
  17. Nice shooting. Is that a CZ American? How do you find it? I'm thinking of getting one, just wondered what you think. Obviously it works, judging by the pile of stewables!
  18. For rabbit, crow etc. on the ground at sensible ranges, the LR is far superiour. Especially a moderated .22lr fed subsonic ammunition. The mag gives a better range, and more energy downrange, but at the cost of much more noise and fuss. If you are likely to want to engage larger targets (fox etc) at more than a few yards, then the mag is good, otherwise it has no benefit over the LR, and many downsides such as noise and cost!
  19. Fry, I hate you!!! My partner and I had a business plan and funding all approved to take over the cafe there, but then we decided that Berkshire offered better prospects! Say hi to Magda and the McKinnons, and Eilidh too! They really do have a problem with bunnies, they use tunnel traps and dogs mainly. If we'd taken the tea room on, rabbit would have featured heavily on the menu, along with venison from Rum (that you can see in the background of the film, where I lived for 7 months working as a ghillie). Mate, next time you go up there, let me know, I'd be interested in a t
  20. Interesting concept silent, pigeons as a physical embodiment of Schrodingers uncertainty principle! We've had Schrodingers cat, now it's time to put the pigeons amongst the cats! As for the pact between the bunnies and the pigeons, I think you might well be right, though my problem today was a pair of fecking buzzards flying overhead, ensuring mr Lapin et famille had a pint of cheap cider, and made a sharp exit!
  21. In Eire, it's illegal to use airguns for hunting! Air Rifles Firearms certificates for air rifles are granted by the Superintendent of your local police district. These weapons are dangerous and can only be used for target practice purposes; they can never be used to shoot small animals, birds or protected species of wildlife. You will be required to complete an application form in the presence of the Garda on duty who will forward your application to the Superintendent and make recommendations on your application. The Superintendent will grant or refuse your application. Eire fire
  22. Look at the forms. Expanding amunition, including component parts (eg. bullet heads) count against the total allowable rounds held. They should be noted on your certificate!
  23. Deker. The forms specifically ask for calibre ONLY, not case type, not anything else except for the calibre! I have asked for .22 rimfire, it gives me the flexibility to choose the rifle I need.
  24. Are you NI or Eire? In NI all air rifles are on ticket, with no exceptions. Give us an idea of your budget and we can recommend a few options!
  25. Ah, I found there was another problem that I'd not thought of. As someone said, those budgies are highly UV sensitive. Now Messers Procter and Gamble found, many years ago, that if you stick a UV reflective compound in your washing powder, it makes whites look brighter and whiter. Unfortunately it means that your newly laundered "camo" suit is actually pigeon hi vis! If you absolutely have to wash it, then you need to use a good old soap powder, without all those UV reflectives in it! I can "call" pigeons, spent quite a while at Chester zoo a while back talking to one. Differen
