Try putting the collar on the floor and have a play around with the dial on the box. You should soon get an idea of the different depth readings. Then you will be familiar with the locator before you go ferreting

Onion sets have started to show. My early peas have been in for about a week. Cabbage and sprouts are coming on well in a seed bed under glass. Just getting some unused ground ready for spuds. Nothing else has germinated yet.

what a load of sh1te.. so what disease / diagnoses is that then.. there's a veterinary abooot I think you have misunderstood . The ear swells inside due to the irritation that the mites cause. The mites also congregate on the outside of the ear. When i brushed the fur back around the base of the ear there was little red pin pricks.I presumed these to be bites.Although after some researching i couldnt find any evidence that they actually bite.Possibly down to scratching. Infection is the what you can end up with I have experienced this problem with a ferret first hand

Does the ear look swollen? Is there red pin pricks on the base of the outside of the ear? If so get it sorted straight away. If its left to long you will have a dead ferret. .

A dog with a good nose is a must to a moocher/ferreter. Most dogs will serve the purpose if given the chance when young.

They are brain dead power freaks. This is true. I was out metal detecting with my son when one of these no marks came over and asked us what we were doing-obivious i would have thought. Anyway i explained and said that we had permission. His answer to that was i thought you were badger digging. Honest. who the f..k trains these clones. Its frightening.

Spending as much time as you can with your dog. Have the dog with you when you are pottering about in the garden (not locked up in the kennel). They start to mooch around looking and smelling about for anything small that moves. One dog that i started this way was finding mice frogs and earthworms long before he saw any proper game. He entered like a dream. Also i used to take him everywhere with me.Again this was long before he was entered. The obediance and inbuilt hunting ability was already there naturally due to the time i spent with the dog just going about my nor

I use jills,but a small sized hob would serve my purpose just as well. Best ferret i seen work was a coloured hob.

Breeding and mentality both play a part. I have a large heavily built dog pup on.He is nine month. He as done a bit with the ferrets and suprisingly is very soft mouthed on rabbits. Personally i wont be lamping him until i think he is ready. I can tell by is mannerisms that he is going to take time to mature. I can wait.Iknow it will be worth it -
I have worked dogs in the dark without a lamp. They hunt by scent,althgugh they will see their quarry if light enough. Didnt catch as many as you would on the lamp,due to all the hunting up. Never the less it was more than you could eat. Recall/ retreive have to be spot on. One particular dog had a bad habbit of dropping the rabbit once it had made the kill

Good luck Sounds like your keen. Dont be to dissappointed if it doesnt go to plan. The advice is there if you need a plan b. Finally dont loose your patience with the dog

Personally i wouldnt lamp her yet unless the recall is good. Whats she like at coming back when just exercising her (no rabbit scent)

Whats the recall like? I wouldnt mind the dog hunting and putting rabbits to ground. I wouldnt mind him showing an interest in the holes prior to ferreting (marking) Make him aware that sticking is head in a rabbit hole after nets have been put on and ferret entered is not what is needed I let my dogs roam around freely as long as they dont touch the nets. Dont worry about the lamping unless you know the recall is very good.If it isnt then make it a priority. Sounds a very keen if somewhat head strong dog.

Sometimes its easy to over look bolt holes on new permission.Especially in cover. Next time the set is ferreted i bet they wont be missed

Rabbits are not stupid They know that running along the bottom of the hedge is there best chance of escape. You need to set a purse net/ poke net on the run in the hedge

KP&S nets Im going back years ago but i think they are still making them No harm in getting a quote. I think they were traditional set.No quick set all them years ago
