  1. Here's my pup. 7 months and still has some knuckle to grow into so this will be an introductory season rather that a proper one. I'll also be running the 2 whippets.
  2. Hi all my mates bitch had her 1st season in october last year and looks like she is coming in again now making it a 9 month gap. is it possible that she will continue to have 9 monthly seasons in the future? making her next season march next year?
  3. cheers Alex they are beddy whippet GH x bull GH sounds like a handy cross. should have speed, stamina, drive and coat. look forward to hearing of their progress
  4. as said it is warm at the min so if your are going to do it do it at dawn or dusk. when i am conditioning the runners before the season (after they have had a few weeks complete rest,) i take them to the bone mad for a check over than start of with just a couple of miles on the bike at 7-8mph to condition their feet and muscles for a couple of weeks making sure i give them a good rub down when i've finished. After that i start to do a longer distance and do intervals, just using lamp posts or trees as a guide making sure i walk them for 5 minutes at the start and end to warm up/cool down-
  5. mine was when i first went up the dales ferreting. parked my 1ltr corsa as far up the lane as possible, about a 20 min drive before it became too rocky. walked for about an hour and a half to get to the tops where the numbers were with ferrets and nets before a lad that came with us realised he had left the locator and collar in the car. he went back down and drove the car further up the moor nackering the suspension in the process when we came to leave for home he realised he had lost the key so we were stranded just as it was going dark. the farmer towed us off the moor then the RAC towed us
  6. they look like healthy strong pups them gafer. are they bull x?
  7. Only just read this sounds like you have had a heart wrenching time with her gaz. Glad to heat she is improving. For me pet insurance is a must for my 3 runners it costs about £35 a month but I have it as a direct debit and don't really think about it, it just comes out at the end of each month. But if something like this happens all those payments are well worth it, especially if they are a family pet as well as workers. Just a word of warning, my last renewal quote from tesco was double the amount I was paying. I went on and did a new quote and got it for cheaper than I was paying
  8. id rather be out working the dogs mate tbh. not bad for a bit of fun and a day out but some take it far too seriously and seem to value a dogs rosettes in higher regard than a good bag of game.
  9. I've knocked on literally hundreds of farms and only the last couple of years have had the lamp too have good sport all through the season without having to wander. Get yourself out knocking early morning on a nice sunny day when the farmers are in good spirits it can be painful getting knocked back but once you get one and do s good job soon will follow through word of mouth etc
  10. She's a lovely looking bitch. He'll be chuffed with how she's turned out, especially with the way some people have treated his Other pups
  11. Lovely photos dogs arts loving it. what is it about robing dogs that makes them go loopy on the beach. Wet have a place we take the dogs that holds a good few rabbits on the dunes after a few hours bushing on there I don't see them for 2 days. It finishes me off running j up one dune!
  12. Lovely runners you got there. Fair play to you, can't be easy keeping them all in such good nick.
  13. Some nice big hounds on here. I've got a lurcher pup standing at a tad under 22 at 6 months so might not make 27 but I'm hoping he will make a decent size
  14. Did you get their contact Ian?
  15. good shout. A full whippet would probably suit too
  16. your not bias mate she is a lovely looking bitch. a good size a weight to her as well. how did you make the comparison pics like that?
  17. interested thread dogs looking well. some of that ground looks very rough. what are they on the car bonnet in the 10:04pm pic??
  18. good honest thread that Gaz and a great first night for your pup. Makes a change from the usual" my dog caught rabbits, with its eyes closed, retrieved them gutted, skinned and cooked them" posts. good luck for the coming season with her
  19. Duvets and blankets for mine in the kennels. They are never put in wet or dirty so the bedding stays dry. I always think would I want to go running around at full speed for hours on end after sleeping on a crap bed! Once saw a comment from a whippet guy saying that his dogs don't need bedding and sleep on wooden boards. Couldn't understand it especially for whippets
  20. Lovely little whippo that is mate. Atb with him
  21. Got to agree with some of the above can't beat jogging next to our behind a bike for improving conditions
  22. Blimey sounds like a rough time. Goes to show just how wrong the antis are who think we are all barbaric and treat our dogs poorly. Glad things are looking a bit rosier for bitch and remaining pups. No doubt these pups will be cherished all the more having been through all that for them. Atb with them for the future
  23. She's a beauty mate, sounds like you've some fond memories of your first couple of years together with more good times to come too. Atb Alex
