HELP WITH ELECTRIC FENCE !!!!
danw replied to 1888andybhoy's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
damned sight easier to fault find when the fence isn,t a complete circuit -
To be honest mate it,s all about being organic we cant spray at all/ cant use fertiliser/ cant use dressed seed, because cover crops are so hungry continual re-establishment on the same ground leads to a massive shortfall in nutrients and as such failed/poor crops to cure that would mean putting drives in rotation with clover establishment in-between I wouldn,t want to lose a drive for a season just because there is a lack of N so there really was no choice.

Hi what permanent covers have you planted .Wolfie we planted areas of snowberry, dogwood, gorse, blackthorn, lonicera and hazel then followed it with rows of canary grass, artichoke and chicory.though the areas of chicory and canary grass need renewing occasionally.

I bought a buckmark about 3 months ago for my kids had the barrel cut to 12" it,s never jammed with eley subs, it never gets cleaned and they have run over 3000 rounds through it, at 50 yards they can get a 10 shot 50pence size group, down sides are you have to take off the scope to strip and clean not that I ever do though . Its, perfect for carrying round my pens it weighs next to nothing and cause of the cut barrel its tiny all up for the money I reckon its no a bad little gun

danw replied to gibbo1973's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Any chance of this weekends lottery numbers lads cause there,s more chance of guessing them than knowing whats killed they poults without knowing all the facts and seeing a carcass.chances are that it is more than one culprit anyway . -
Behave man the earliest poachers where legislated against by William the conqueror with his forest laws, folks didn,t take the kings deer to profit they took to survive.

Don't ask me, ask Keith Vaz. couldn,t give a flying f**k what he says, How can this crime affect legally held guns when it was committed with an illegally held firearm???

For once I am pleased we are organic, we took the decision 6 years ago to plant permanent covers and they are at a stage where they now need thinning means one less worry this year

I,ve had 10,000 out in the release pens for 3 weeks now the rides started to flood so I had to straw the rides in the pens.had Aurofac in feed for the first 2 weeks and now on flubenvet but that is the only meds they have had and they are looking good and no losses, the credit must go to my game farmer he rears under electric hens and they where feather perfect and properly hardened on arrival makes all the difference in this weather,

did you really pay £5 per bird for exlayers? -
Ok I will take this on board that buzzards do take adult pheasants although I have not heard of this on many occasions maybe as there are more of them now or there other food rabbit is not quite so readily available due to larger numbers they have learnt to take pheasants a bit more often then I have given them credit for. Thing is if you have small fen type birds such as I have an adult cock struggles to get to 2lb buzzard has no problem taking them but if you had a pure black neck going around 4lb then matey might just struggle. I guess we should all just bear in mind that the min

funny how every one focuses on buzzards taking pheasants yet they are far worse on partridge if it isn't predation it,s the constant worrying by sitting/soaring over the cover all damned day don,t take long for hooky to f**k a drive. Just out of interest Mark how long did you keeper for and why get out?
