Thanks for your kind and very informed input. I said I had a rutting stand, did I also say I had 400 acres of land also frequented by fallow deer? To MY taste buds fallow taste bl00dy terrible. By far and wide I prefer roe, with muntjac and reds coming second. So no being funny, but I canny help what my taste bud tell me and yes the testosterone makes the meat strong, however I have always strongly suspected that fallow produce more adrenalin than other species, which is great from a sporting point of view. Put fallow, red, roe and muntjac on the table and I'll tell you which one is the fallo

Fallow are fun, more than Red's IMHO if you like very challenging stalks. Red seem to be easy going, yup they will run but generally the reds seem to be more laid back than fallow, which run at the slightest reason. If you like your venison, don't eat a fallow I've permission for a cracking rutting stand but don't often visit due to the smell/taste of fallow. I shot a big old boy last rut, he was just going back, I even spotted prickets challenging the poor old boy. John no being funny but any rutting deer will be strong flavoured if you think that all fallow meat smells/taste p

OK I could have been somewhat more explanatory in my reply "prey drive " is only part of a group of drives that can be harnessed within a dog,There is a distinct difference in a dogs behaviour and demeanour when the prey or hunt drives are triggered in its most simplistic imagine a pack of wolves tracking a prey item the prey drive is not engaged the hunt drive is as they are searching with their other senses for their meal and are receptive to outside influence once the meal is sighted though prey drive takes over smell/noise is irelevant sight alone will do, focus is held on the item in que

how many gundogs have the prey drive these puppys exhibit?
-
What a load of bollocks. How do you think a gundog catches a runner to retrieve it? A decent gundog needs plenty of 'preydrive' in order to do it's job properly. in the scheme of things gundogs come way down on the list of dogs with "prey drive" Fook me i've found a challenger in my bid to win muppet of the year. child you need to run along now it.s nearly bed time if you think that gundogs really have a high prey drive as opposed to say a greyhound or even a collie then you aint seen f**k all Think highly of yourself don't you bigshot! Why are we using gundogs

fair enough if you have a good dog and your a good beater. But round here you can be the shittest beater with the worst dog. but just because you have a dog you are better than someone without one. Some of the beast beating I have been apart of is where there was not one single dog in the line P.S. that was not aimed at you just having a general rant lol. Was there much flushed there though? Just i can walk up and down and not flush a thing. Send the dogs in and everything pops up. Just sorted myself out some beating for next season actually, gunna help the gamekeeper out on a

there will just as likely be a shortage of components as well particularly in .224 so reloading wont help much.

Now i'm not being funny, or incitful R.Docks, but you are a fairly frustrating man to have any kind of disagreement with (just looking over your previous works). SO. . . . . I grew up around shooting estates (my old man, being a well respected spaniel man) and so i have seen a good few hare shoots, but i have never shot a hare in my life, it's just not my thing, and that goes long before i ever got into running dogs myself. I was not suggesting that someone who shot driven game was 'less of a sportsman', what i said was that in my eyes (and we are all entitled to an opinion), it'

so speaking of hypocrisy 75 rabbits ferreted in a day is worth a slap on the back then? guess sometimes it's all about the numbers.
-
you would think that hare shoots where a new invention since the ban but the truth is they have been shot in big numbers on estates since guns where invented did the estates shooting these numbers before the ban let lads on with dogs Not a f*****g chance so just how has anyone lost out by their actions, the laughable thing is that at the moment a thread is running on here about culling deer cause there are too many of them yet no one is saying don't shoot them they need running with dogs they all want them shot just strikes me this forum as a whole is full of hypocrites.
-
some of youse want to get a grip I don't shoot hare/woodcock or jay that's my choice if some one else wants to thats for their own conscience to pacify but to criticise some one for it smacks at hypocrisy to me why folks can't do what they do and leave others to get on with theirs is beyond me To my way of thinking it makes folks no better than antis mithering on about something which frankly don't affect them.
-
lab I know I promised not to show the lads this but I think they would be proud of your progress Keep up the good work pal
-
whys that then has his day on the hares affected your sport then?

And? Dan - would that law make it illegal to let it grow wild as well? honestly don't know wasn.t really sure on whether it is legal or not the links suggest not but I was hoping some one would clarify it
