When I was young, my mates mam had a " fanny warmer" and it was a better busher that some of the terriers we went out with, even caught a few! Also ,years ago the terrier man to the Meynell hunt worked a poodle cross russell, That I personally dug to a few times!

Way to go. Add to the f****n madness on the other side though. Just trying to be honest mate, Hares are caught consistently by stamina not speed. -
The Saluki is the closest thing in Britain to the European Brown Hares natural predator, the Wolf. Of cause there was also the Eagle and the lynx, but both the the Eagle and the Lynx go in for surprise and a fairly short pursuit. The Hare didn't develop it's great stamina evading these predators. It almost certainly developed it to evade the Wolf. Now the Wolf doesn't have the speed of a Greyhound It runs it's prey relentlessly until it's exhausted, so I'd say the Saluki and Saluki bred lurcher were the most natural dog for the job. I rest my case your honour!

You wouldn't keep it outside as such mate, it would be in some kind of shelter, not sure even a Redtail would survive extreme cold if left tethered out in the open at flying weight,even in it's native habitat . Remember in the wild they can fly about, and find places out of the wind.

I had a similar thing a few years ago. My Mrs had 2 black cats, the Harris hawk got used to them and didn't bat an eyelid . Then when I bolted black rabbits , she would anticipate the bolt, set off, but immediately swing round and come back! She hit normal rabbits like a sledgehammer!

It's not as bad as it's made out to be, so long as you start with sound stock. A lot of first class fen dogs are inbred. I once read a scientific report about inbreeding, where they bred rats, brother to sister for 13 generations with no ill effects. I myself bred rats as hawk food, for at least 10 years. Starting with a brother and 2 sisters plus 1 unrelated male, adding no new blood, after many generations over the 10 years or so, never getting any abnormalities.

I did one for a lad once, a whippet greyhound, the lad said he couldn't get near it with the clippers! He was right ! never seen anything like it, a f***ing banshee, slashing it's teeth , foaming at the mouth and squealing like a stuck pig ! Muzzled it , still couldn't hold it down, held it in the air, still couldn't restrain it. In the end we hog tied all four feet together and then had to tie the muzzled snout to it's feet before we could hold it down, but the f****r went home with short nails !

Can't you see folks, all this is to help the poor who are trapped on benefits, the government wants to starve them into shit jobs on shit wages so they can trap them there instead, so them and their cronies can profit from their cheap labour. It stands to reason to me, if wages are so low that folk are better off on benefits, raise the f***ing wages ! No one would choose benefits if it payed to work ,you don't starve people to make work pay, unless your Tory. It's simple, make work pay, a f***ing dunce could work it out !

I was 8 when I started ferreting, brought up in a south Derbyshire village.
