  1. I wonder, only one who could have known for sure was Gary himself, Lily was bigger than Eve and threw bigger pups , Eve thew some small pups, Roosters litter sister Mouse was only 22".
  2. Not read the whole thread but very interesting, not heard much mention of lily, eves sister, there were a few lily pups sold as eve pups as eves pups were favored and fetched higher prices! So some of the breeding won't be quite right !
  3. What I was getting at was, that nobody can tell by looking.Chances are the bloke that bred it don't know for sure! Go with what you were told by the chap you got it off, because that's the best your going to get. I't don't really matter whats in it , it looks a nice dog , physically capable of doing a good job.
  4. Here we go again! I've got a cardboard box here, can one of you experts tell me whats in it please!
  5. The deerhound of today is not the deerhound of the past. One of the most precarious times in the breed’s history seems to have been at the beginning of the nineteenth century, when many of the large Scottish estates were split into small estates for sporting purposes, and few then kept Deerhounds for hunting deer. The new fashion was for stalking and shooting, which required only a tracking dog to follow the line of a wounded animal, and for which purpose a collie or similar breed was found to be more suitable, being more biddable and with better scenting abilities. Although a few estates

of course not cheers All right then, have you been giving as much as it can possibly eat? no in truth she probably eat 5ib meat if i let her if not more although obviously dont know for sure That could be your problem then, I'm sure you know some dogs need a lot more food than others, I wouldn't worry about a dog that is thin that would eat more, I'd just keep feeding more until it would eat no more ,if still thin then vets!

  13. why??? Why ! read some of the posts and hazard a guess! are any of the replies worse than the original post............. I've just re read the OP, and It's a perfectly reasonable opinion, not one I would agree with but I can't see how it warrants the abuse It's got . To any reasonable person that reads this, it will appear that he is the reasonable one. I always thought the idea was to appear better than the opponent not no worse than them. seriously?? i no of people who had alot of troubles in the grave digging episode...........lifes were ruined all over a few tho
  14. It was obviously designed to provoke a reaction, to show us in a bad light , and you lot obliged, thanks lads!

  17. Well he certainly got what he wanted on this thread ! danw was about the only one talking any sense!
  18. "Unfortunately just because there is public access across someones land they have the right to refuse if so wished." No they don't, unless it's permissive access, any other access is statutory.
  19. Neither of them on that performance but lure coursing is hardly a proper test for a dog. Many good ones won't chase a lure at all. You find me one of a pure deerhound that means business then mate!
  20. Thing is most deerhound crosses you hear about aren't first crosses ,they usually have other breeds in them . I tried pure deerhound and home bred 1st crosses, bred both ways ,gxd and dxg wasn't impressed .
  21. don't get to exited most pure salukis don't cut the mustard, they just lack that little bit extraAnd what is that little extra ???Greyhound blood isn't added to the saluki for the sake of it. It works. And works well I know i have the proof here. But im talking about dogs used purely for the fen. Most coursing men say you should always breed back to the saluki not the greyhound. Don't listen to them mate, if your dogs lack speed add a % of grey, If they lack wind add saluki.
  22. have you ever ran one against a pure deerhound or saluki romany??? Yes, as it happens I had a pure deerhound bitch at the same time, the greyhound was far superior .I also ran fen dogs ( Merlin, Eve ) compared to them , Greyhounds got no stamina worth a mention. Seen very few Salukis run, the ones I have seen, run much the same as fen dogs do.
