I had one, 22 month ex race bitch, taken off for interfering while racing. I spent first few weeks training it . Heel,down, stay ,jump and recall plus ferrets without any real problem. Lamped it, day time hares, took fox no bother. Even learned to creep down the beam to squatters and once a hare hadn't seen us and came loping along towards us, I slipped her, she crept up the hedge like a collie until it spotted her and turned tail. Ran her into old age without injury ,then retired her to family where she lived out her life as a pampered house pet. Bring one up like a lurcher, you've got a lurc

What it is, is normal training taken to the extreme, what it is doing is obeying commands just like your dog would, but the commands are hidden in the sentences the man is using, even when he keeps saying 3, if you notice the 3 the dog reacts to is said very slightly different to the others. With the creeping the chap has just controlled the natural behavior of the breed. Dogs can detect extremely subtle differences in all sorts of things ,that's why they can be used to warn diabetics of low blood sugar. Still very, very impressive but not surprising.

It's only legal to catch rats and rabbits if you have the permission of the land owner, otherwise you contravene the hunting with dogs act,which states it to be illegal to hunt any wild animal with dogs , there is however an exemption for rats and rabbits with permission.

So Jackie Drakeford, well-known working dog trainer and author, won't let her deerhound-cross dogs out in public for two years, but you sort your deerhound X's out at three months old? Hmmmmmm....... Back to the OP. " he looked at the sheep last night and didn't even show interest" Wrong! if he looked he was interested ! You need to bollock him every time he looks, get yourself a refs whistle, while your giving him a right good couple of yanks, blast his f*****g ears out on the whistle. He will come to associate the whistle with the bollocking, later when he's loose he will come to think the whistle is a bollocking! Then you've created a means of bollocking him even at a distance, done right it's as good as a shock collar but without the pain.

That's the way to do it , done at the right time ,there's nothing to it . A good dog man knows what his dog is thinking before it ever does anything.

Never read so much shit about training dogs in my life! Six months to stock train a dog, f**k me! should be able to do it in an afternoon! ok you need to be vigilant, with constant reminders but f*****g hell! I've had 1st cross Deerhounds sit and stay at 12 weeks! And shock collars! any body that has to resort to a shock collar on a dog they have had from a pup should be ashamed of their selves! If you don't know how to train a dog you shouldn't be aloud to f*****g own one! Right now consider yourselves told off!

That's right mate, I worked on a mink farm years ago, they come in an amazing range of colours . In the wild though , natural selection favors the normal colour so as time goes on, you tend to find less and less of the mutated colours . In the early days of colonization they were far more common.

The problem with capitalism is, too few people end up with all the money! She deserves the same respect she gave the miners. I saw someone on the box who was very close to her, say that when it was first put to her to sell cheep or even give away council houses, her first question was "what's in it for our people" meaning the middle and upper classes. Says it all really !
