  1. Good vid riohog another good insight into the saluki I'm starting to fall for this breed got a 13 month sal x grey 1st cross, saluki could be on the agenda in the future enjoy my pup 1st though
  2. scholsey brilliant man and boy been there done it got the t shirt in fact he got loads of them .be a long time before another comes along like him .very hard to replace .
  3. brilliant motors but be prepared to get pulled by old bill a lot .
  4. ideation totally agree with above post.
  5. what you have to put into context is years ago the only people that kept a lurcher were people that worked them and in most cases worked them real hard .compare that with today when there are as many not worked as there are worked perhaps even more . so imo you can not really compare those of yesterday with todays lurchers if your talking about the average lurcher .
  6. the best lurcher i have ever owned was also very submissive to any dog or bitch or person but was honestly a right demon on all quarry big or small and only had one gear fast foreward lol.the litter i bred of her were exactly the same timid around dogs but massive prey drive on all quarry .
  7. other than the first 15 minutes we were 2nd best all over the parc all night... but well done barcelona terrific passing football. but hey its still not to bad supporting the 2nd best team on the planet.cmon you reds back up and at em .also i havnt heard one utd supporter moaning that the best team didnt win .sometimes you have to be realistic when you have been beat by a better team .pity a few scousers didnt think like that lol.
  8. my 13month old pup runs round the feild with her catch and cocks a real deaf ear to me right pain in the arse.years ago wouldnt have put up with it now hoping with experience she will grow out of it.
  9. seen and owned both types over the years but like as been said the best can catch them both in the feild and in/on the hedges as for the long runs 4min plus if your running on the fens and giving fair law or head start it takes even the best dogs a while to get their quarry under some sort of control ..after running 200 yds plus to just get to their hare.the said same dogs can and will catch them much quicker in smaller places with not so much start or fair law .unless you have run dogs on the real big land its very difficult to comprehend just how differant and difficult for the dogs it is .
  10. this is where we differ in opinions i call gameness the will to go in where it hurts at the end of the day when it has allready put in a long shift and is tiring and still gives hundred per cent whether its on rhfd if you have. or have seen a dog like this and you still dont think its game i dont know what is .
  11. johnny boy when they have what inme on about they dont need any help to finish any job thats why i lumped them together.if they havnt got the minerals as you call it to finish the job then i dont consider them to have gameness and prey drive to the extent ime talking about .
  12. i think the way they are looked after as improved tenfold with mag boxes better food and conditioning methods being much better than years ago.also the saluki crosses and bull crosses was not about years ago like they are today.dogs of yesterday did their job very well but times have changed and the dogs with it my opinion is coursing dogs certainly have but there were good dogs on big stuff long before the bull crosses became so popular.i a;lso think and not everyone will agree but it is certainly true with myself that i am not so critical of a dog as i have got older and the dogs today dont
  13. as above plus george drake and tom peppercorn top class based in perterborough in a village called eye long way to go from here in wales but worth it everytime ive had to use them .
  14. i think a dog being game and having massive prey drive is the same thing both being that when the going gets tough they keep going regardless of what pain or hardship might come their way their only thought to get to what they are after be it a lurcher or terrier same applies to both .hardness how do you define that when talking about a dog i had a bitch that would back off from even the smallest dog even a toy dog but only had one gear when out in the feild whether on big stuff or small. she was the best lurcher i have ever owned in 40 odd years of keeping running dogs but this bitch would

  20. that takes me back used to make my own back in about 1976 always used lr6 or lr9 spotlight they ended up like goldust because everyone was nicking them to make lamps both had really tight beams we used to tape a plastic flower pot over the end to stop any glare and make the beam even tighter . at the time i was always on the lookout for things to make the handle with used to change the handle every couple of weeks for something lighter and more comfortable lol.mind you the acid batteries were something else back then
