one of the best and possibly could be THE BEST coursing dog out there at the moment travels 800 miles to run the fens not exactly on his doorstep but doesnt stop him having a real top animal, who will take anyone on on any ground with no excuses ,makes wales look on the doorstep in comparison .mind you ille have to think of this when ime starting a eight hour round trip in the car tuesday .seriously i can see both sides of the argument of course its much better and easier to bring a dog on if the game is on your doorstep .but with the right dog and commitment on the owners part ,theres nothing

i think anyone who has slipped their dog on a hare always wants their dog to catch it its part of the day and hope always springs eternal .but i would much prefer my dog to have a good course and give a good acount of itself than give it a kick up and kill it in a few feet without having a run ..now when i was younger and out for the numbers and selling anything caught fair enough differant ball game .but i was never under the illusion that that was coursing or fair play . ,but i still did it because differant times differant ways .and the money didnt half come in handy at the time .
-
imo the competitions were good for coursing showing people how it should be done. but the matches imo spoilt it with the onus being on kickups and who could kill the most hares, with the coursing itself and sportmanship going out of the window .

is lamping hares easier than daytime?
boyo replied to craigluckyjihad's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
the jury is out on that Based on outward appearances you might think that rodents and lagomorphs are closely related. They do have a similar appearance, they exist in similar ecological niches, they are vegetarian, and they have continuously growing incisors, but they are fundamentally different. Mammalogists now think that lagomorphs are more closely related to ungulates (the hoofed mammals) than to rodents. Rabbit young are born naked and rather helpless (altricial). Hares bear young that are furred and able to move about shortly after birth plus you cant pull a rabbit out of the ch -
is lamping hares easier than daytime?
boyo replied to craigluckyjihad's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i think everyone would agree that hares were generally a lot easier to take on the lamp.thats not to say that they cant give you a good run in the night either,it depends on lots of things .what i would say is some hares are very easy to take or preban were on the lamp but very rare is a daytime hare a easy take for a lurcher ..also imo if someone wants to run one on the lamp who is anyone else to say they cant or its wrong .i got my opinion on it,same as a anti has theirs but thats all it is my opinion
