  9. What way did your friends bitchies, influence the family of lurchers? Were they any use on hare or were they lamping, or just mooching dogs? Would you say that the hairy little mongrelly things came from that side, Because Anns dogs did well at showing at Lamborne, Plus won racing events.Did the family improve with your knowledge of breeding,

  12. Can we asume that these little mongrelly things were of little use on hares, but ok for a few rabbits. Presume they were to small for fox, Were they any use on the lamp. Ive seen you with some stunning looking dogs thats won in shows, What were the breeding of these dogs, They certainly didnt look like little mongrelly things as you call them.

  15. you gotta be lucky to find one in wales never mind catch it lol.
  16. To my mind it's a waste of a good hare to kick it out the seat then throw your dog on top of it ! my sentiments exactly romany 52
  17. i had a letter printed in the c weekly a few weeks ago regarding these points exactly . and old geezer why dont you like poachers some are the salt of the earth . lol
  18. and anyone who has run the fens reguarly will tell you not all of it is massive land ,there are some small plots with lots of cover around where the hare will head for every time . the type of land the match boys dont like running
  19. any hare given fair law this time of year is not going to roll over easy but hares do vary in differant parts of the country . but i gotta say them fen hares after christmas up to end of feb are real ball and heart breakers.and give a running dog a real test. and anyone that thinks fen hares are easy at these times aint giving the hare fair law imo.
  20. at least with the ban as it is you can work round it .sometimes you have to be carefull what you wish for, imagine having a vote and it goes against us just likeythe last one di dand they closed the loopholes ,you would have no excuse to be out in the middle of the night with dogs in the car after rabbits or 3 to 4 hours away from home with dogs in your car rabbiting or picking up after a shoot .ie [excuse ]as i said sometimes things are best left alone and get on with a bad job
  21. I know a chap who had several bitchies that caught hares for fun, these were only around 22ins. one bitch the fiddler, was bred of a bitch called kyte, who was 22ins, had 4 sisters who each killed hares reguler in january when hares were at there bast, He recon a bigger dog took to long to catch hares because they couldnt run with there chins on the deck.
  22. The main reson a dog has to run a long way is because it hasnt caught the hare. The average slip for a lurcher is around 5 to 10 yards which means if the dog takes 2 minetes to catch it. It is because it can not strike very well. Many a good whippet could catch them off slips like that, so its no big deal if a lurcher does. End of story.
