  1. If adult whippet suddenly decides to take off and pup doesnt, then pup is going to get a very sore neck indeed.
  2. On a serious note, like feck would i let any of my dogs into a river at the moment, they wouldnt stand a chance!

Cheers cookie. And i think some folk are perhaps taking the hawk thing a little too literally.
  4. Stinks, interested in chickens, and with something 3 inches. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Got to be lab.
  5. Why is it odder having a pet fox then a pet anythng else wild?
  6. ye, cracking idea, lets say where all the hares are, because that's a GREAT idea.
  7. I'm working on a strain of angora e.u micros. I'm going to be rich beyond my wildest dreams. There is a difference between a small ferret and a 'micro' ferret that is stupidly small and gets dragged around like a fecking kit, jockey ferrets as some call them, because the last you see of them is riding the bloody rabbit as it bolts across the field! I keep a line of medium to large jills and never found a hole they couldnt fit down, and they dont get f****d about.

It's commendable that you want to get some sport, but to coin a phrase - 'the only good Mink is a dead one'. They can spell the end for many native species if they're allowed to settle in anywhere. IMO all available methods should be used to eradicate them from the British countryside. I totally agree, but some methods are just more enjoyable than others. Not being a dick, but i get very little to no pleasure from shooting anything, and even less so shooting a caged animal. I am no anti before anyone cries about it, i just believe that if something needs to be eradicated, and that eradi
  9. If it's weather like here, a fecking wet suit and snorkle!
  10. Just jumping back into this, i'd first like to say i wasn't neccesarily agreeing with the lads entering method, and by the sounds of things, this particular dog has had some major negative experiances. If you have taken on a dog that you cant let off a lead for two months, wont come to you and is a nervous wreck, then getting it hunting probably shouldnt be your priority. At the end of the day i'd spend all summer, trying to build a bond, and its confidence, nd just trying to get it enjoying life with you. All i meant by my earlier post (and not neccesarily with regard to this dog) is that

In answer to a couple of points! I fish my local rivers so i know there are not 'lots' of mink, only a few here and there, the odd one we manage to make contact with whilst mooching. I'm trying to find somewhere i can spend a day and have a good chance of some sport. As for the hawk, it would make it legal, with me using the dogs to flush it to the waiting hawk, and less of a belly ache then carryng guns on some land (i.e footpaths next to a lot of rivers) I will be laying some traps down, so thanks john for the tips and sand etc, in order to gauge where i might find some, but i dont
  12. Feck me, where do you live, they all sound mental round you mate!
  13. Nothing at all surprises me about the Chinese, they are destroying the world.
  14. I'm not being funny mall, and i pretty much agree with most of what you re saying, but i think SOME dogs, DO fail themselves in the hunting field. Believing all running dogs will make the grade is like thinking all ethiopians will make marathon runners, it just isnt true.

RD - I think that's it mate, you have one or other, the otters seem to have pushed the mink out, and for obvious reasons, i dont really want to be hunting the dogs in otter territory. Tayto - Aye, im off down the river now, to look at setting some traps, to have a look see.

Aye, trust me, i spend a fair bit of time walking the banks, of both larger rivers, and smaller streams / brooks, with the dogs and they seem very very few and far between around these parts. Was just hoping for a little direction into which river / stream networks might hold decent numbers.
  18. Aye, looks like the nose of a plane!

Yes, the main aim would be flushing to the gun / hawk, using a mixed small bobbery pack. Having problems finding an area with a mink problem though. . . . . . . . . .

Do many folk on here hunt/trap/shoot mink? I never see anything about it really, maybe once in a very blue moon. It's something i would really like to spend some time doing this summer, but need to find some mink first!
  21. The terrier barks like feck if anyone he doesnt know comes anywhere near the house, but in his old age, now also barks at birds on the lawn, hot air ballons going over and the moon when it rises in the day. The old collie x in the kennel at the moment is brilliant, and is quiet as a mouse until she hears / smells / sees someone strange - then she barks well. The whippet never barks at anything, the only two times he has jumped off the bed in the night and started going mental, there has been someone on the yard trying to break into cars etc.
  22. So i guess you guys head out with a terrierman to sort out the cubs after you've shot a vixen??? Or not?
  23. What was the wee bitches breeding anyhow?
