  1. Now, no offence intended, but it seems that this thread has run it's course and is now going in circles.
  2. Just one thing, when you pass on the rotties, you may need to mention, one is a dog killer. Guard dog, is one thing, but still, it shouldnt really be dog aggressive if possibe? Sorry for your loss though.
  3. I agree, except that some of us ferret all of the above . . . . and more. I still think, it's very hard to beat a colie based lurcher for the ferreting, they just have the patience and brains required.
  4. Aye like jamie says, feed them rabbit, and give them a whirl.
  5. Why not ????? The clue is in the word ferreting.: ) To be honest mate, for me 'ferreting' involves using a dog. I know what you are saying and i think with you it's a little different. I think i probably WOULD do it with no dog a time or two, maybe, in order to secure new permission. But i just can't really swallow the idea of heading off for a days hunting and leaving the dog in the kennel, i'd probably just rather go somewhere else with him, and catch less. I love watching the dog work the land, and find the warrens, find which are occupied and where the rabbits are (i.e w
  6. Remedial dog trainer? Ask lab.
  7. Other thing ive noticed in the poecats i've found / seen / trapped. They are a fair bit bogger than a ferret.
  8. Nope, seen feck all in terms of wild young. It's just damn miserable!
  9. My favourite is always when the quarry takes itself out and all the dog has to do is pick it up. Seen rabbits that were away, knock themselves clean out on fence posts. Also had the quarry and dog run over the top of me, which was funny for the guy i was lamping with at the time.
  10. still wil need to do 150/250 a week to make it pay, facture in the fuel and other expenses and will it pay In some parts of the country that wouldnt be too hard if you had access to the land, and lamped, trapped, and ferreted etc. However, there are a lot of variables. Car breaks down and needs 300 quid spent on it - thats 150 rabbits out of the calculation. etc etc.
  11. You need to live somewhere that is fecking over run, and have a good name. And you will notice most pro ferreters need to do game fair demos, sell books, and over price for 'eu polecats' to make a living. Best we found is garden jobs etc, willing to pay a bit, or hotels etc. Also found somewhere that will buy frozen, gutted rabbits for a pound. Take 500 a time and its ok i guess. I wish someone would pay me for the tree rats, i just leave them where they fall.

  18. Was having a mess about last night and the lamp died. It's a light force striker, and it's the wiring that has gone (as it will come on some times if you wiggle the wires). I have pulled the red bit ut the bottem and the wires drop down, but cant seem to get the rest out (i'm probably being thick). It's the one with the button on the front. Any tips / advice and even better, a link to some kind of diagram? Cheers.
  19. r.e.all ferrets will make top workers if you try . . . it's just not true. Most (and not even all) ferrets will enter a warren and have a wander around and mooch about down there, scaring some rabbits out, which will bolt due to the presence of an invader and potential predator, it's scent ensures that at least. They will wander around the top levels, and out rabbits come. Some folk see this as 'working'. However it's a far cry from the true working ferret, which enters a warren with a real purpose, flies straight down on a mission, and works the tunnel system with some energy and
  20. Thats partly the problem, bell ends paying to shoot it. Who is going to let you do them a favour for free, when some wanker with a big gun, to make him feel better about his diminutive penis, will give them a chunk of cash to blat everything in sight. funny that from a fella as was going to be keepering a shoot full of shite springs to mind I DO keeper a shoot dan. Well i try It's going ok so far. Obviosuly its not as big or as professsional as yours. However, i don't think that's really relevant. I'm more reffering to folk i have spoken to, in other parts of the co
