    rats.

Don't understand why people are so worried about working rats with ferrets as long as the ferret has done a season on rabbits and is not too big its great sport, have never had a ferret get a bad bite from a rat and I have done thousands. The smell of ferrets does not bother rats at all have worked the same spots all winter and the rats carry on using the same holes.
  2. Ferrets can be worked usually upto around 5 years, personally I would go for albinos as like you say they are easy to spot. Your don't really want to be ferreting when your jills will be in season as they will be nests of young rabbits which can be a real pain. You can get young rabbits all year but come spring almost every warren will have them. If you get kits now chances are they will be ready to start working unless they were a late litter. Rabbit heads are good for feeding or full rabbits if you don't want them all.
  3. Never fished it but having read alot about it in Pike & Predator I don't think I will be off there anytime soon, deadbaits get stripped to the bone by all the crayfish and a double seems to be a big fish in there now.

  5. It's up to the dog owner if it looks a straight forward dig no problem, but lets be honest over the years we have all seen dogs put in stupid places which are asking for trouble ie drains where the guy entering the dog has guessed that the pipe at the other side of the field is connected to where the dog is been entered while telling us how many this drain has held before. Only to spend the afternoon going around a housing estate lifting manhole covers looking for his dog as it is not the same drain. The guy that has lost a dog in a quarry before but losses 2 more in the same quarry. Its down
  6. Agree with Josy its your own fault for picking the pup, it's one thing picking a good looking well bred pup and at 2 year old having doubts about it's abilty, but at 4 months it's your own fault.
  7. Trouble with keeping weak sick animals is they are more likely to pick up disease and pass it to the healthy animals. Even if it survives chances are it will never make a worker as it will never be as strong when animals get a bad start to life they carry it through life. I have met vets who have tried telling me that runts can grow into normal animals but on the farms I have worked they either die or are still runts come slaughter time.
  8. Yeah but patterdale adds nothing to a running dog they don't like running, can see someone may want to add it for bushing but not as a running dog it would be my last choice well could be a toss up between a patterdale and a sausage dog. A good bedlington should add just as much as a patterdale while not taking away from the running dog.
  9. Bedlington x whippet would be better though I just can't see what patterdale is going to add to a small rabbiting dog.
  10. Another vote for the stanley knife, cheap and sharp.
  11. Why would anyone want a running dog with patterdale in it? It's adding nothing, keep pattterdales myself but they no use for rabbits chances are they will start jacking mine have no intrest in chasing rabbits unless their half dead with mixy.
  12. Yeah think your right about a super heavy division but can't see it happening any time soon. Look at all the up and coming british lads Fury, Price, Joshua all over 6'6".
  13. Now your just taking things to extremes.....theres 4 lb difference between most divisions .........in the heavyweight division there can be 4 stone ! If weight was a massive issue in a prizefight Haye would have never been allowed to fight Valuev.....infact there would be no heavyweight division at all ! Yeah but can you really see a fighter under 16 stone becomming undisputed heavyweight champion again? I just can't see it. Wonder if the reason Holyfield looked better as a cruiserweight was because a lot of the guys where shorter than him?
  14. They will probably turn out small, small animals that are hand reared never get as big as ones on their mothers milk. Hand reared a couple of wild rabbits when I was a kid and they only grow to about half size.
  15. First year ferrets are just that way, will grow out of it with handling.
  16. He was 37 when he fought Lewis i wouldnt say it was his prime.....Bowe in my opinion could have been a great fighter, neither of those opponents were a disgrace to lose to.....( incidentally Bowe/Holyfield fought 3 times not twice Bowe came out 2-1 up )........your making more of this size thing than actually exists....for instance was height/size an issue when Dempsey knocked out Jess Willard or a 200 lb Jack Sharkey knocked out a 270lb Carnera.....historically size has never been a factor why would it suddenly be one now......Tyson always struggled with tall fighters but thats only because hi
  17. Styles make fights mate size dictates nothing......Holyfield never avoided Lennox or Bowe,s rangey style why would he avoid Klitchkos.....he may have been aware that his age didnt allow the necessary mobility but size was never an issue. David Haye did not go out to win the fight with Klitchsko....thats the reason he made such a poor showing.....he never tried to win the rounds and simply hoped to pounce on a Klitchsko mistake that never came, thats why it was such an easy fight Klitchsko knew he only needed to not make mistakes to win.Haye had/has the power to knock out any heavyweight....but
  18. How do the professionals do it? as in a lot of areas where they are trapped it is surley not legal to discharge a firearm. So are they taken away in the trap and then shot? Or is there a license that covers shooting trapped animals?
  19. Yeah Fury is still a few fights off, still gets caught with some daft shots and looks a little bit of a novice still at times but does seem to be getting better with every fight but given a year or two could go on to be world champion.
  20. If Haye fights the Kliichko's 10 times he will lose every time, size doe's come into it simple as, Valuev had he been 6'2" instead of 7'2" would have been nothing more than a journey man. Rember watching him fight at York Hall on the under card on a Frank Maloney promotion he had next to no skill he was just too big for the guy he was fighting. You say Haye didn't take much damage but this is a guy who has been dropped 3 or 4 times fighting against cruiserweights he can't risk taking big shot's. Look what happened to Adamek simlar size to Haye also an ex cruiserweight champion, when he boxed V
  21. I completely disagree,he showed in the klitschko fight he had the tools to hang in the division just not the desire. In the Klitschko fight it showed he was way too small he had to be negative as he was too small to get his range, I don't see what else he could have done in that fight. He would have just got knocked out had he been more aggresive. Klitschko's are masters at keeping a fight at range, that's the reason why fighters like Holyfield and Toney have avoided them.
  22. Good fighter, just way too small for the modern heavyweight division, should have stayed at cruiserweight but the money is know where near heavyweight money.
  23. Mike Tyson Angelo Dundee Brian Clough Alex Ferguson Hitler George Orwell Don't get me wrong I don't like all of them, Just curious.
  24. Doe's anybody know if any tv channel is going to show any of the finals? BBC1 always use to show highlights but having looked at the TV page it's not listed. First time we have had 3 fighters through to the finals and BBC ain't showing it.
