One of the farms I have permission on he shoots hare, fox and rabbit plus game birds all he takes are the game birds slings anything else on the muck heap so don't make out it's just dog men and I bet he is not the only farmer that slings rabbits and hares. I don't know any farmers that can be bothered to gut and skin 20 rabbits.

we where that poor the pidgeons used to throw bread to us if you cant use the hare. take up rag chasing. ive seen shooters shooting hares and dumping them. same to them. take up target shooting. leave countrysports to the sportsmen Yeah sportsman people who actual go hunting with dogs and want to see dogs perform, no different to dumping a fox or a rat. I work my terriers I never eat anything they have caught. To be honest I think most people on this thread don't have dogs good enough for hare so just go a long with it. My point is I would not risk getting caught with something im going to chuck in the ferret hutch, Would rather eat a skunk than a hare. I know plenty of dog men none of them eat hare so whats the point in putting one in your car after day time coursing it's just asking for trouble.

Sorry where you not the one saying take everything you catch? yes and if you dont understand what i was getting at,then just forget it. You can ferret with out one but having one does make it easier. Some of the lads I ferret with never had them as kids but still never lost ferrets. Even using one it's not fail safe.

No one area we use to course preban they shot 168 in a day there last year.

There was loads of antis before the ban, they just hate all hunting full stop. There not bothered what you do with your catch.

That's spot on, your just asking for trouble with running dogs and quarry in a car.

No they never left them, but the point is people were only there to watch dogs run hares for sport. If they had dug a hole at the end of the day and buried any that had been caught no one would have been bothered. Thats way people still run hares to test their dogs not eat any they catch. I take by saying to fill the freezer you mean shoot as many as you can? not that you will admit it.

And who eats mixi rabbit, fox, rats or mink like?.... I like taking the gun and going shooting pigeons, if someone told me tomorrow that pigeons could not be eaten anymore then i wouldn't go and shoot them for the fun off it. If your running hares just to watch your dog run and kill then maybe you should take up another past-time and leave the hares to folk that respect them and will use them. Look have been running dogs for years, use to go and watch greyhounds run with hundreds of other people, why do you think they went to watch dogs run or in the hope of having hare for tea? And

or a better idea would be to leave them them alone if you dont have a use for them,leave them to be hunted by someone with a bit more compassion and respect for what he hunts. Why? I enjoy working dogs, all the farms I go on the farmers would just shoot, gas or trap and either bury them or sling them in a ditch so it makes no odds. makes no odds to you,of that you have been clear.also just cause someone else does something,does not make it right for you to do it.however ive said my bit,im pretty sure you will carry on regardless of what has been said here So when you have set up

Most people on hear are just intrested in running working dogs not selling game, or making a living through pest control.

So what do you do with any mixi rabbit, fox, rat, mink etc. Why get your dogs/car taken for sake of a hare may as well stick it out of the way for a fox to eat.

To be honest hares are only any good for feeding dogs or ferrets anyway so why risk getting caught with one. Would rather eat a rabbit.

Sounds like a rabbit kick, rabbits will try and kick the ferrets off with their back legs.

Straw for the nest sawdust for bottom of hutch, as long as the bedding is changed often you won't get a problem with fleas in the hutch. Have never personally bothered worming a ferret but do them with flea powder once in a while. If there going to be in the same cage then yes one hob if you put two in the strongest will just rag the other about. Feed wise depends on amount of ferrets but you don't them getting too heavy it's just something you will pick up with time as long as they get a good 5 minutes each feeding you won't be far wrong.

No should have told them where to go, says it all that they feel the need to intimidate you and your wife with a gun, pair of fairys if you ask me.

Working them 2-3 times a week is fine as long as they dont get injured if they do rest them. It is very rare that they take a bad kick but it can happen that they gat caught in the eye or the odd rat bite. They won't fight when they are working together. I feed every day as I don't really want ferrets that lay up on a kill. Introducing other ferrets is fine as long as you don't keep 2 hobs together as they will fight.
