I was lucky to have had a couple of very capable dogs to start off with a Bedlington/Grey Dave Emmerson bred and the collie/bull pictured earlier.I didnt realise how lucky I had been until I tried to replace them,the trouble was I was making to many comparisons and a young dog just cant fill the gap your old faithfull has left behind.It took me a little while to realise this so I decided to go for something totaly different ,not so much of a running machine but more of a dog to work with the terriers,though fast enough to still have the odd night out on the lamp.So I went for a 1stx bull/grey

What dogs did you use for the deer the coursing dogs or the moocher.Just wondering as a [bANNED TEXT] of mine had a bitch that was bred soley for coursing,she was a reasonable deer dog even on quite wooded or small field land.

Well I wouldnt bother discussing ferrets with that lot of conceited idiots.They seem to just twist words to suit there own agenda.You would of thought if they were so keen on ferrets they would of done some research into line/inbreeding and its effects, either desirable or undesirable.As for culling if its so undesirable why does mother nature severely cull?Her methods are a lot more inhumane than ours ie starvation and disease.Nature culls for one reason only the fittest and best survive we are only speeding the process up a bit. Keeps,you dont have to answer to anybody your animals look

I used to keep a diary [bANNED TEXT],numbers caught,quarry types that kind of thing.If it was some one elses diary or I didnt know the dog I would find it hard to believe.I find it still amazing the ammount of game or vermin caught by even just average lurchers,just the stuff caught out while exercising the dogs would shock some people

I have had 1 or 2 ,what I would call decent dogs.This one took all quarry day and night he was Bull/Collie Greyhound more than 3/4 greyhond ,he took a great deal of foxes and a lot of Roe.He was killed lamping foxes at just under 4 years old.The top of his muzzle was all scar tissue and stood out from a mile away to avoid it attracting to much attention I used to colour it in using a black marker .

Dont get over concerned [bANNED TEXT] in this country the red rossette is sometimes given to dogs that are even scared of their own shadow. Sad but true. Forget the shows and trials and get those dogs out in the season digging to quarry the way it was intended.

Poor moderating and administration let it down in the end. I belive edrd(the mag) has only another 9 or 10 editions before that packs it in aswell hope I heard wrong
