  1. I know this is a running dog forum but as we are into 1sts in this thread, here is my terrier having his 1st shag
  2. Cant leave the 1stx out of it here he is with his 1st daytime Roe now that takes me back
  3. Cheers lads as you have made me feel so proud of him Ive tagged a picture of him and his 1st Hare aswell :11:
  4. The dog was 14 months when he took his 1st single handed fox,he has been doubled up since about 10 months and had seen biting quarry even younger, this might all seem a bit early and premature but the dog is 3/4 well bred bull and only 1/4 greyhound.I didnt get this dog till he was about 12 months old. The bloke I got him from was getting more into rabbiting. It is another dog bred by turk.
  5. I believe the Border has passed the stage where certain kennel names can be taken to mean working blood. To find a working Border now you have just got to find one that has been bred from working generations rather than a famous name. Probably the original way, worker to worker, wouldnt consider those that try to hard to get a rossette with their workers either. Show stuff for shows. Workers for work.
  6. FEAR...fear would be a good word why people tend to stick to the more commonly worked terriers, patterdale, lakeland, fell, russel. Fear of putting all that time and effort into a dog and even getting a decent bond with it...just for it to fail. There is a risk with all terriers or working dogs for that matter, however well bred however game the parents are ,that the pup just doesnt make the grade. It is a great gamble to invest all that time effort and even money into a well know proven type of terrier without even taking greater risks with types that could almost be described as one offs. I wis
  7. A cat gone feral can definatly proove a bigger pest than a fox and if the land owner orders it gone you have to oblige.Well done dogs.
  8. Nice 1,had a decent frost this morning in my area so thing are starting to look up. How did the young dog do?
  9. Catch a load of foxes all seeming to be 100% healthy then every now and again catch one with mange, the majority of foxes I catch are urban some are in better nick than others but mange thankfully is rare.
  10. If the 1st time cross proves to be superior to line bred stuff(hybrid vigour etc) and is ideal for the work your doing I would stick with the 1st time cross.A lot of people on the site may have 1st time crosses there is a reason for that.
  11. You definatly need more than 2 if one gets knocked up you will need another lurcher to double up on quarry with your fit dog,if all 3 are fit at the same time treble up,if 2 are injured go down the pub, same goes for terriers. :11:
  12. There are a lot of deer about wounded or carrying shot its your duty to get out there with the dogs and get them in the bag.Nice to see litter brothers doing well must of been a bit of thought gone into the breeding.
  13. In my area its always a bit hit and miss until about middle of October then things start getting better.Cant grumble 2 foxes is a good night IMHO.
  14. Good stuff nice to get a few rabbits with a young dog,in the last pic looks like the dogs are getting a little possesive over the catch .
  15. Cheers lads all your replys and comments will be passed on to R2, I spoke to him earlier and he is determined to get this terrier working right.
  16. I think most lads that have had a terrier or 2 will think the same way, just a bit more time.Cheers taff .
  17. Better luck next time . I didnt realy want to write this thread I asked R2 that we should just tell trusted m8s and ask those he respects for their advice. But he wanted me to put this thread up.
  18. Now the fox was a large aggressive dog fox,the bitch was a novice and this her 1st time to groundat only 14 months old.R2 asked me my advice I told him not to worry(easily said)and that we should give her some more time to mature and also more time to gain experiance of life in general. It would be easy to take her for a one way walk after this 1 set back but R2 isnt like that, and I think that with a little bit of time and carefull handling this bitch will come good. One thing else we did was take her and the dead fox away from the other dogs,we then wound her up with the fox then through it awa
  19. The more experianced dog being what he is killed and drew the fox in very short time,we let the lakeland have a rag up,though R2 said little I could see his mind was busy. The More Experianced Dog .
  20. Shame wasnt such an eventfull night for your visit [bANNED TEXT] just a few rabbits, better luck next time and hope you enjoy the venison.Royston2 says F**K off. :11:
  21. Its not the perfect situation [bANNED TEXT] but I enjoy watching my dogs work day or night.
  22. Now this is the nasty bit. As R2 got closer to braking through. everything went quiet and slowly the bitch backed out of the earth, her muzzle showing signs of contact she wasnt to keen to re-enter,so we let a more experianced dog havce a look who entered and made contact within about 2 foot of the entrance. R2 closer to Breaking through.
  23. Anyway after checking the Bullxs mark with my own nose(definatly fox,)you know what these Bullxs are like marking all sortes of stuff to ground. .We enterd R2s small lakeland bitch she pushed in and after a few minutes made contact, you could here her wailing like a banshee then a scream of pain as she took a hit ,then a constant baying. We let her settle for a few minutes then got a mark on the locator just over 3 foot depth. As it was R2s bitch I let him do the digging, the Bullxs stood bye. Waiting For The Bolt.
  24. Had a walk out with Royston2 and his young 14 month old lakeland bitch. The bitch is well bred that R2 bought at about 12 months old.The bitch had done very little in the way of getting used to the country side. But R2 has had her out with the other dogs ratting and bushing etc.Anyway a batch of about 30 chickens hed been killed over a 5 day period as well as a few pheasant poults, the bodys were just left laying where they fell minus their heads. The farmer had asked that we check the local area just to see if we could get an idea where it was coming from.Luckily our little walk out coinsided wit
