  1. My dog ate a load of choclate,I gave it a peanut it came out a treat
  2. Some terriers will manage to destroy a fox in no time at all and have the knack of taking very little punishment, its easy to decry the use of hard dogs by saying they are always layed up,good in theory but not always the case in practice. 3 or 4 bolts a day sounds nice but if those foxes wont bolt and if you havnt got a game dog you might be going home empty handed. A picture of a game dog who was very rarely dug to with a live fox and who took very little punishment, quite simple to dig more than 2or3 a day with more than once a week.
  3. They have the Terrier events advertised as being organised by the F&MWTC Kent area.I spoke to their rep he knows nothing about it could be a recipe for disaster
  4. After posting pics like that I think you can expect a few migrants heading your way from this forum.I wish we had that kind of freedom and attitude over here.
  5. I believe the The Rev Jack Russel also enjoyed a spot of otter work and even Badger digging, now a dog that didnt mix it to much was of preferance but I think a good stayer would have been admired. As the JR seems to be loosing a lot of its working ability a lot of its supporters have started re writing history.A good game staying(not over hard)terrier was probably the aim then, not to much different from the goals we set ourselves in the present. Not every fox wants to bolt and some need more than gentle persuasion.
  6. 2 for joy,nice shooting [bANNED TEXT].
  7. A bit possesive, always a good sign I think even if it it needs curbing, coming along nicely.I expect your being kept busy with the Canadas, now they have been down graded on the shooting list .I havent heard from git for a while I know he got rid of the black bitch what about the red dog.
  8. A lot of ferreters see a marking dog as a necessity a bigger attribute than speed and even mouth. The digging at the entrance of an inhabited bury would be frowned upon by some but better any kind of mark than none at all.How old is the bitch.
  9. I am not a fan of Jack Russels I find them to noisy in kennels, white lakelands, white patterdales, white Borders are not Jack Russels. The picture of the JR for sale in the classifides IMHO is what I would call a JR.For all of that even I know there are working lines of JR out there its just finding them thats the problem, the same problem with all terriers. You will have to cover some miles in your quest to sorte the wheat from the chaff, the pretenders and the wasteage from show bred litters will be offered as working potential, politely decline, and move on. When you find what your looking for th
  10. Nice come back Steaming,Unless your a lentil eating treehugging anti hippy veggie, then I think its a bit hypocritical to criticise another hunter,I think if you had made it clear in the beggining of your thread the methods you personaly use the criticism would of been less. To be a hunter IMHO the legalitys are irelevant it is more a question of moral and personal conscience. Is it a legal obligation to use the rubber guards on leg hold traps in Australia? What other quarry do you trap? Do you personaly use other methods? How many Foxes can you expect to catch in a 24hour period?
  11. Most types soon get the hang of running a fox or marking him to ground even the odd saluki.I believe you have seen that bitch put a few bunnies in the bag Jordan, the beddie x that is.
  12. Have never seen(as far as I know) let alone owned a lurcher with a strong trace of hound in the make up.Sounds like just the type if you have a good deal of rough land to work.Any chance of a pic Sadie.
  13. Know a few chaps who like to run a pack of terriers and lurchers of all types and sizes, they catch a few on top and below. He says he is to old to change now(in not so many words )
  14. A mates Bedlington/Grey also a good hunter, marker and pusher of foxes to ground. She was just starting to nail them single handed as well.Shame the laws changed
  15. I like the sound of the second hound type.A dog that puts charlie regularly to ground single handed be worth its weight in gold.I have see a few Bullx that hunt well even through cover, handy if they stay in the vicinity of the earth once it has sunk. Most of the foxes I used to hunt were urban foxes and would seek the refuge of an earth a lot more readily IMHO than their countryside relatives.
  16. You should try getting them a bit younger A rabbits a rabbit where farmers are concerned, decent ferret grub aswell.

    Whats happening???

Good question mate, was thinking the same thing earlier looked on the CA site to see what was happening in the european courts,I am not the best with computers but there was nothing clear as to what is going on.
  19. By English bird in taffy does that translate to Border Leicester,Southdown or Dorset Horn.
  20. A good clean out of cuts with dettol, tcp etc for normal cuts light bites. If the bite is deep or for a cut full of rubbish, dirt or tooth fragments etc treat with hydrogen peroxide force this into cut wait for it to bubble vigourously then rinse with salt water. If it needs it a penecillin shot or a coarse of tablets.A clean warm bed clean fresh water good food and light exercise. This is how I deal with my dogs no casualties yet
  21. Nice pictures the one down the hole looks like he is trying to dig on,any pics of the dogs after making contact or with quarry caught.I know the coat hides a lot of marks but not that well.
  22. Hello mate, the bitch on left is full sister to the pups you bought but from an earlier breeding has been dug to succesfully the dog has different dam.I believe this is also a litter sister of taffys bitch. Not a very flattering pic of my dog looks more like a piglett in this one.
  23. Went on a a couple of squirrel shooting days as a boy, there were 2 teams each with drey poking poles shotguns and an assortment of dogs betwen the 2 teams over 400 squirrels were shot. The most exciting bit was when a squirrel or 2 would panic and bolt down the tree and along the woodland floor. Then the assortment of dogs would catch and kill these.Good fun.
