  1. Getting your terrier out and about with the lurcher ratting and bushing will definatly be more of an advantage to your terrier than leaving it in its kennel, like others have already said a terrier from working lines and parents will be a better bet. Most well bred terriers will enter quite naturaly on their own probably when you have an urgent appointment some where
  2. In my kennels at the moment I only have 2 terrriers one patterdale I would say is reasonable and an 8 month old Border dog I should also be picking up a Border dog pup in a few weeks time. The Border terrier essentialy a working terrier. I like them(from the right lines) I find them easy and quiet in kennels they dont attract to much unwanted attention and I have found them to be good finders and stayers they are also game enough to only need one hole dug to them.Of the Borders I have seen work regularly it has been uncommon to dig to a live fox. Perhaps I should be a little more patient
  3. One bolted with the pat one dug with Border
  4. Like I said IMHO it is only after all only one mans opinion.
  5. Just one more of the bitch who is now sadly no longer with us.
  6. That same young dog cooling off
  7. A young Border dog who entered easily and at quite a tender age, tragicaly killed on the road.
  8. Have to dissagree with Borderboy a working Border should enter as easily and at the same age as any other breed of worker.Slowness to mature is IMHO just an excuse for 2nd rate terriers.
  9. I believe there is more than one person on this site that digs to Borders on a regular basis.I will try and stick a couple of pics up later. The working Borders I have seen work generaly are quite game and like to get to grips with the quarry, with Borders you realy do have to make sure they come from decent honest working lines, as I think the Border terrier suffers more from the whims of show people and money makers than other working types at the moment.A lot of people criticise the Border as a working type but if you can find those elusive working lines you will be in for a lot of fun.
  10. Start digging a bit quicker or you will be teaching her to leave the quarry :11: or had you left the digging gear in the van
  11. Gonna have some fun next winter with Kane and Roysten (if roystens up to standard, fit and healthy) at the same place. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Next time Royston comes out he said he will eat 3 shredded wheat to keep his strengh up.Nice pics lakey dont kill all those rats leve some for us
  12. If thats lakelands dog its not the fox that pushed it out its just scared of the dark :11: :11:
  13. One thing is for sure.As you say Lakey it is a good picture.
  14. Well done [bANNED TEXT],all the talk of carefull entering to fox in all the books when all you need is an afternoon stroll and bingo.Good stuff many more to come
  15. All reasonable dogs I have had would enthusiasticaly rag a dead fox at a very early age 3-4months old. They would be entered with another dog at about 10 months though some would enter even earlier if not restrained and would hopefully take a fox at 14 months ,again some would enter even earlier if not held back, single handed. Some might say that is to early I think it all depends on the breeding of your dog. Some times it is worth being a little bit more patient sometimes it isnt.
