  1. Hi Ratsmasher, He is talking about .17 CF (centre fire) which lots of users reload because if you get it right its cheaper, can be more accurate and some calibres are often very difficult to get in factory off the shelf ammo especially some of the smaller or more obscure calibres. A 17HMR is a .17 Hornaday Magnum Rimfire cartridge and practically speaking you cant re-load rimfire cartridges. Also .17HMR is not THAT expensive (between £10 - £17 for 50 rounds) where as a centre fire round, depending on calibre is around £1-£2.50 a bullet. Hope that helps. ATB Jonno
  2. Like I said above, don't oil it! Use bore cleaner, I use Parker Hales 009 then wipe of the residual leave it dry. The bore solvent blocks moisture too and doesn't attract dirt dust or powder residue. Try it, it works! ATB Jonno
  3. I had the same issue with my semi auto, I took it back to the gunshop to complain. I am fastidious about keeping my guns clean. The owner stripped the gun and wiped off my carefully applied gun oil from the action, gave it a spray of Parker Hales 009 bore solvent to get rid of the oil and put the gun back together. I took it out to his field and put 100 rounds through it without a blockage. I have probably put a couple of thousand of rounds through it since just cleaning it after every use with bore solvent and wipe off all the residue so its dry. It has never jammed since I changed th
  4. Is it on an FAC ticket or have you got it for an air rifle? ATB Jonno

  6. The CLA gamefair is next weekend 22nd-24th July. ATB Jonno
  7. I use a SAK it cost me about £30 last year, they are not the quietest but not far off. As I say there are others which are marginally quieter but the price difference is so great that for a bunny bashing tool I could not justify the higher spend. Here's a link to a shooting times review of .22 moderators which might help in the desision of which to get: http://www.shootingtimes.co.uk/guns/121761/Sound_moderators_for_22_rimfires.html Hope that's of some help ATB Jonno
  8. If money is not too tight, go for a Benelli or a Berreta ES110. The Benelli and the ES100 runs from the recoil of the cartridge whereas the others including the Escort run off gasses taken from the barrel blown back through the for-end. This means that when you shoot a cartridge with a gas powered gun the for-end gets full of cr*p and burnt powder from the cartridge, this then builds up in the forend which makes it a pain to clean and can build up and can lead to reliability ssues. The Berreta is a bargain you can buy a brand new one from guntrader from £685 yes a bit more than an escort
  9. That no where near as bad as I thought it might be! You get £100 per charlie!!! I hope it works for you at that rate. ATB Jonno
  10. Hi all, As the title suggests does anyone have a Weihrauch HW 66? I am in the market for one and before I put down a deposit on one I just wanted to get some feedback from someone that has actually shot one, also has anyone got any good pictures of one as the onlys pics I have found don't show much detail. Thanks for any help ATB Jonno
  11. Go on scare me how much did it set you back? ATB Jonno
  12. There was a article I read about these recentley in Sporting Gun. Heres the link to the article on-line. http://www.sportinggun.co.uk/instruction/524844/The_next_big_thing_in_shooting_coaching.html The one they were testing was around the £500 mark, which seems a bit steep to me! Hopt that helps ATB Jonno
  13. Hi all, I am just about to buy an Anschutz 1517 thumbhole but I am a bit concerned whats the biggest magazine you can get? do they make a 9 or 10 rounder or is the five the biggest you can get? also is there anywhere online you can buy the mags? Thanks for any help ATB Jonno
  14. Depends what type of shooting your doing. I only use my .22 lamping from the truck and I don't put one of my bipods on it because it makes it a bit front heavy and unwieldy. I alway keep a pod on my rifles when I am walking with it but I don't do any walking ith my .22 so like I say it depends on how your using your rifle. ATB Jonno
  15. I suspect this is another one of those case where different fire arms departments take different views. When I was a kid living at home and my father and I shared a cabinet (going back 15 or so years) the FEO said as we both kept our guns in the same cabinet and both had keys our guns had to be on one anothers licenses. I also have a good friend who I shoot with whose wife also shoots they both have firearms and shot gun licenses and they both have each others guns on their tickets. This is only my experience and as I say I suspect different departments take different views. ATB J
  16. Hi Freeman, Here are a couple of reviews for you: http://www.gunmart.net/gun_review/browning_t-bolt/ and: http://www.shootinguk.co.uk/guns/462008/Browning_TBolt_rifle_review.html Hope they are of some help, I was seriously considering one myself but I think I am going to stretch myself to an anschtuz thumbhole instead. ATB Jonno
  17. Yes afraid so. Thats what I had to do as a kid when I lived at home.
  18. I had exactley the same thing happen to me when I last sent my license back for a variation to change one of my .22 rifles for a .17HMR. It came back with all my rifles nicely listed out, turn it over and I had NO ammo at all! So frustrating as you know you have to send it back and the waiting begins again!! Sorry to hear its a total ain in the ar*e! Hopefully if you ring them up first before you send it it wont take too long to get it back. ATB Jonno
  19. It was Burris that made/makes the special scope for the Sako. I tried Uttings who I know used to sell them but all I got was the following: http://www.uttings.co.uk/Product/543/105460/burris-fullfield-ii-3-9x40-sako-quad-rifle-scope-bur-200178/ DISCONTINUED! I don't know if you can buy them elsewhere but at RRP of £382.42 thats a lot of money. From a personal point of view, I would much rather have two separate rifles and scopes nicely set up and zeroed than one and have to make fiddly changes. I am sure I'm not alone but I want to know than when I point the rifle at what I'm
  20. England, David Beckham and Roger Moore...........really?? What about the Queen? or scarrily after the recent wedding prince william.
  21. That is a nice looking rifle, out of interest (currently looking for a .17hmr) how big is the magazine? and if its not too rude to ask what did you pay for it? Cheers Jonno
  22. What does the certificate actually say? Does it say .17HMR and 22WMR? I would be surprised if it say .17HMR and .22WMR barrel as this would mean your limited in what you can actually buy. As you say it would pretty much limited you to a quad. If it says a .17HMR rifle and a .22WMR rifle you can buy which ever of those you fancy, not just a Sako Quad. When you make a FAC request your not asking for a specific rifle generally, eg a ruger 10/22 .22lr semi automatic, but a calibre of rifle so a .22LR or a .243 etc. If you have .22LR and 17 HMR For example you could buy an anschutz .17
  23. Thanks Greg, I did get the irony, the thing that I find fascinating is the number of people that don't and think that what is said, in satire, is something serious that they actually agree with.
  24. Yeah no worries mate! ATB Jonno
