  1. Erm, I clean my shotguns everytime I use them but I have had my cz .22 for a year or so and I have only cleaned it once having put through probably 2500 rounds through it. I only use it bunny bashing and it doesnt seem to make any difference, they all go down, and I try for head shots only and like I have said before I get the odd flyer but if I am honest these are probably my fault not the rifle, cleaning or ammo. The one thing I have found is that you have to put a little oil into the hole next to the breech otherwise after a few hundred rounds it struggles ejecting the spent cartrid
  2. For my twopence, I would agree with the above, buy whatever fits best. Having said that I would caveat it by saying that personally I would go for quality second hand as opposed to cheap new. If you are planning on going clay bashing I would suggest going to a ground for a few rounds with one of the school guns and seeing if you get on with any of them. The other thing I would say and this might stir up some cross replies... Whatever people tell you look at the guns used at a clay ground for teaching they get used every day and fire hundreds of thousands of cartridges, every ground
  3. Winchester super x for me. Plenty of oomph, cheap, pretty reliable, available everywhere. To be honest I find with my CZ453 I get the odd 'flyer' but 9 out of 10 times if I miss its me not the rifle or ammo. ATB Jonno
  4. It might also be worth giving BASC a call and getting their advice before you put the forms in. There are hundred of thousands of people in this country that shoot and statistically one in four people have depression so there must be lots of shooters who suffer from depression. Hope it all goes well. ATB Jonno
  5. Totally depends on the force dealling with it and how much they have on their plates at one time. They will contact the land owner and make sure he has given you the ok, but if the land is already cleared they may not visit. They will contact at least one of your refferences, but they are really tightening up on things st the mo so they will probably contact both. As for 'how long' I'm afraid its going to be how long is a peice of string. I live in kent and its just taken about 9-10 weeks from sending of my variation for a new calibre to get it back, bit of a pain in the arse!
  6. Hi, It doesn't have any values, but I found a website that has a bit of info about the manufacturer which might help in your search: http://www.littlegun.be/arme%20belge/artisans%20identifies%20d/a%20defourny%20a%20j%20gb.htm I have also found a few sites which have guns from the same manufacturer for sale as well: http://www.champlinarms.com/Default.aspx?tabid=30&ctl=GunsDetails&mid=409&StyleID=10&GunID=1556 Bonhams sold two defourny guns in the march auctions (see lots 216 and 217)but these were both o/u http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/
  7. Hi All, I have just got my variation through allowing me a 22.250. So as you can imagine off I popped to the gun shop! I have been looking at a Winchester 70 coyote lite varmint: http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?family=001C&mid=535115 The bloke in the shop say 'its his favorite gun' and he would buy it over a remy or a browning x bolt. Its on at £690 but I have to get it cut for a mod on top. I was wondering if anyone had use a winchester and what they thought of them. Your help would be very welcome! ATB Jonno
  8. Congratulations, it brilliant when a plan comes together! I hope you get your paperwork through soon. ATB Jonno
  9. I have one for .22 and one for 22-250. The 22-250 is great and I use it all the time however with the .22 I found that its ok if your walking about when you need to be uber quiet but if your lamping from a truck its terribly fiddly and a bit of a pain in the arse (well it is for me but I have quite big fingers) plus they take ages slotting all those fiddly little .22 in them. When in the truck I have a little snap lid tupperware box about 4inches by 3 and 3 inches deep, I just empty a couple of 50 boxes of .22 in. I personally find this easiest in the dark in the truck to refill the mag.
  10. Thats a brilliant idea! I know its a bit cheeky but any clues where I can get or download a fax call ring tone for my mobile? ATB Jonno
  11. Hi Griff, Here is a link to the Browning UK website: http://www.browningint.com/products/firearm.php?productsarea=browning&sommaire=Over%20and%20under&classe=b425 The 425 wildfowler is chambered for upto three and a half inch cartridges, but that does not mean you have to use 3 1/2 carts you can use any 12 bore cartridge. the fact that it takes the 3 1/2 inches just gives you the flexibility to go for the big shells if you want to go wildfowling but you can put clay carts through it all day long if thats what tickles your fancy. Hope that helps. By the way I have a
  12. They are good guns, Miroku are owned by Browning and make all their shotguns (all but the b25 which are still made in belguim) you are basically buying a browning 525 only a little bit cheaper (grade for grade) I bought a 525 before the season last year and I like it more everytime I take it out the cabinet. ATB Jonno
  13. If you have used and like brownings then I would recomend them I much like you used a friends 525 and really liked it so I bought one, I understand you feelings they are a lot of money! If you want a bowning but can't quite stretch to it, have a look at Miroku. Miroku are owned by Browning, they actually make all Brownings except for the B25 range which are made in belgium. The Miroku's are actually identical in action to the brownings and the stocks are the same set up, in terms of angles and lengths etc. when I bought my 525 the owner of the shop said that the only difference between
  14. Just watching BBC news and the eye witness was saying the guy had a 'sniper rifle with a massive scope on it' they are saying that over 20 people are dead. Thoughts and feelings go out to all in Whitehaven.
  15. Thanks Dave, The £1,000 s just for the gun not glass or silencer etc. Having looked around that eans that most makes are open to me. I like the look of the Howa and it seems very good value for money. ATB Jonno
  16. Hi all, I have had my variation meeting and I am awaiting my ne license, I have asked for a 22-250 which the fire arms chap said should be ok and that he would recomend me for it. I am now looking for a new rifle, in 22-250 calibre. I have a cz 453 in .22 and like it very much but I dont know very much about the larger calibre and manufactures. I want a synthetic stock, its just for field use, mostly shooting out of a truck. I have been looking at the browning, remington tikka and howa ranges what is peoples experience of these? is one far superior to the others in terms of accurac
  17. Sounds like your on the money with that one. You shouldn't have any problems with the Firearms officer, especially if its got a BS Kite Mark. Hope the application goes well ATB Jonno
  18. Very best of luck mate I know how it feels my variation meeting was yesterday, most of them are nice guys. dont worry be calm and be yourself! ATB Jonno
  19. Well, I'm not really sure how it went! He said that I was asking for too much at once and said that he couldn't justify me having all three at once. He said that if I removed the .17 he could put it forward for recomendation. He did say that I could re-apply for the .17 in six months or so. So he removed the .17and left the .22 and the 22-250 but he said that this did not mean that I was going to get them just that he would recomend that I should be allowed them. I am at a bit of a loss, I thought that the decision was the Firearms Officer?? appaerntley not! Is this ussual?
  20. Hi All, I am after some advice. I have got the Firearms Officer coming over tomorrow to have a chat as I have put a variation in on my FAC. I have got a .22 already and I have put in a variation for another .22 (I have a bolt action and I want a semi auto to deal with all the bunnies on my permission as there are fields that are Bald at the moment due to the numbers!) I have also put in for a .17 for longer distance bunnies and a 22-250 for foxes. I have just spoken to him and hes coming over tomorrow, I’m papping myself over what he is going to ask me! Is there anything I should
  21. Wilson & Wilson Telegraph Hill Laundry Road Minster Ramsgate Kent CT12 4HL Telephone : 01843-822 242 The guy that owns it is Peter Wilson and he runs the shop too, very helpful and a nice bloke. Where is Ashford Guns and Tackle, is that the one at kent wool growers? or somewhere different? I grew up in Tonbridge Wells and always used to use Chris Potter but the last couple of years everytime I have been in there they have been really snotty and looked down there nose, even the last time when I went in to buy a brand new browning 525 heritage. I went to wilso
  22. Sounds like a good buy, hope it serves you well! Do you mind me asking which gun shop you use? I'm only down the road from you in Canterbury and I don't think a lot of most of the gun shops in kent. Wilson and Wilson out near Ramsgate are really good and kent wool growers are ok, but other than that....... ATB Jonno
  23. Hi all, I have put in a variation on my FAC, (I currently have a CZ453 .22 with a Bushnell elite 4200 3-9 x 50 Scope which I really like and is great for the type of shooting I do, mainly lamping from a truck) Anyhow I have put in for a variation and I am going for a .17 and a 22-250. I am looking at the Nikko Stirling Nighteater scopes on Uttings: http://www.uttings.co.uk/Product/543/103352/nikko-stirling-platinum-nighteater-30mm-ir-10-50x60-rifle-scope I have had Nikko Stirlings on air rifles before and I thought they were ok, I fancy one of these because of the large l
  24. I bought my new rifle safe a little while ago from here: http://www.discountsafes.co.uk/Gun_Safes_s/77.htm I had a really good shop around and I could find anywhere cheaper. Ordered it and it arrived no probs within a couple of days I would recomend them. Best of Luck Jonno
  25. Hi, I don't want to step on anyones toes but I shopped around when I bought my new FAC safe about 12months ago. A locksmith mate of mine suggest www.discountsafes.co.uk and I could not find anyone cheaper. I bought the 10 gun safe from Burton for £295 its a really good bit of kit with an amo locker in the top. The firearms officer actually said it was one of the best one he had seen recently its totally solid. I hope I haven't offended anyone Anyway best of luck. Jonno
